2-0 out of 5 stars 100,000% Shovelware
"If falsehood, like truth, had but one face, we would be more on equal terms. For we would consider the contrary of what the liar said to be certain. But the opposite of truth has a hundred thousand faces and an infinite field."~Michel Eyquem de Montaigne
3-0 out of 5 stars Few explaination
Even if very complete, very few explaination. Ridiculously expensive. Not a good buy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Third time (edition) is a charm!
This text is excellent! I have a positive bias towards most of the works of Messerschmitt, Lee, Parks et al; and this book is no exception. The added MIMO channel detail in this edition makes it a well-rounded reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable Depth - Great One-stop Solution
Working in the telecommunications industry, I have become all too familiar with texts that skimp on topics important to the reader and are skewed toward the authors' interests. Freeman does an excellent job of balancinghis coverage and providing a book with meaningful depth. I was looking tothe book simply for its ATM and SS7 chapters, but the other chapters werevery good also and I ended up learning a lot of new things. This book is amust have for someone looking for a one-stop solution to telecommunicationseducation. I can't wait to see if all of Freeman's books are thisinformative and well written.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
Very comprehensiv

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, "some" editing problems
Just looked at my review from a coupla days ago and I think I was a little harsh on the editing. There are some spelling and grammer errors in the text for sure, however, I think "numerous" was a little extreme. I must have just been having a bad day when I wrote that. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Survey of RFID; present and future issues.
This is a compilation of papers from numerous organisations with diverse opinions on how this technology will develop.RFID presents opportunities for great improvement in business efficiencies for corporations and better service for customers and consumers. The flip side is that RFID has the potential to negatively impact individual privacy more than most technologies.
4-0 out of 5 stars speculative deployments
The chapters are written by different authors, concerning various aspects about RFID. The topics give an idea of the scope of RFID deployment. None of the chapters would be considered technical. You are not required to be an electrical engineer to follow any chapter.
3-0 out of 5 stars Fast track RFID project helper
For those who want faster diving in RFID technology I would recommend to take a look at DataBrokers TagTracker. Their new version works with LF and HF transponders and uses Hibernate to store scanned data in a database. It comes with PIRF-Lite (Java written API) which allows the user to make new transponder layouts and interact with the RFID reader differently than it is shown in TagTracker. TagTracker itself is enough to collect RFID data from different locations (RFID readers) and store it in a common database. Like a data pump. All you need is to create your own interface to query the database using your preferred languages/tools , etc. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book.
This is a wonderfully written, and excellent book. It assumes only minimal backgroundknowledge but imparts a great deal of insight. I love the way that the author describes this area and the connections with deep and beautifulmathematics.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very nice 'handbook' of sorts for users of SOMs.
The material is presented clearly and comprehensively from the unique perspective of the SOM originator himself. The inclusion ofexhaustive references is particularly useful for the prospective researcher, but, atthe risk of sounding ungrateful, I'm curious as to why paper titles werenot included in the citations? Overall though, a very good reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Only book which consolidates Audio coding & Standards
This book describes the basic details and the Signal Processing behind the Audio compression. It also describes PQMF and MDCT in continuation which is rare in books. Almost all the standard audio codecs are described with comparisons. I am delighted to read the book. At least my search end with this book on this topic. After getting this book, I need not look into IEEE & AES papers. For Audio engineers working on this domain should read this book to have a complete picture and overview of the technology and the domain.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not satisfying for a nerd like myself...
The book gives a good review of the historical development of audio coding standards with emphasis on ISO. Generally speaking it is well written, but the technical details as well as theoretical aspects are frankly, quite superficial; therefore it is not satisfying for a (proud) nerd like myself. If one's goal is to implement a program to handle the MP3 bitstream, for instance, then the book does not help. If one's goal is to design a new filter bank to improve the MP3 coder, then the book does not help either. However, it is recommended for beginners to get a flavor of the audio coding field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Touching the core mechanisms underlying digital audio codec.
For a long time in my school life and now as a audio engineer I look forward to this kind of book.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on Audio System Engineering
This is THE BIBLE on sound system engineering. You'll find no better reference for sound system issues in an easy to understand book. This is not for the novice who knows nothing of sound or physics or math. It's for those that truely understand basic concepts and want to learn "how sound works".

5-0 out of 5 stars Great mid level text
We've used this book as both a historical reference to get our folks up to speed, and the material is still pertinent to predictive analysis today.I've been using it since the first edition and find it a useful part of a complete acoustics library.

2-0 out of 5 stars High expectations low return
Very esoteric, helpful if your having and argument about the physics of sound....Old, out of date pictures and test instruments. Some of which haven't been around for ten years. Very little practical information, you read and read and read looking for some practical conclusions.Absolutely FILLED with mathematical calculations. I'm not put off by these but they are out of balance with there usefulness. This books seems like it was written to fulfill someones PHD requirements. There are some useful chapters on electrical or speaker basics but they seem included only to bring this book down from outer space. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book Out There on this Topic
Configuring CallManager and Unity: A Step-by-Step Guide (ISBN 1-58705-196-6) by David Bateman is perhaps the best book currently out there on this subject. It is over 500 pages and has all the elements of an indispensable book: easy to read, practical in its approach, well organized, and packed with current, useful, and up-to-date information. If you are involved in configuring or maintaining the Cisco CallManger suite of VoIP telephony, you simply can not do without this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of storage networking
This is one of the best books I've encountered in many years. What I like about it:
5-0 out of 5 stars Succinct overview of Storage Networks
A very good translation of the german text. There are a few areas where the translation falters but overall excellent. This is not an implementation book. It's meant to be a general overview of the Storage Network universe. The authors focus on Fibre Channel SAN which is still dominant in large corporations and gaining popularity among mid level companies. The book does a good job of explaining the plus/minus of all the competing standards as well as giving an infrastructure map of each of the technology setups. If you want to understand the ABCs of Storage, your journey should start with this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A recording studio masterpiece
OK, so this does not cover ALL acoustincs. If one is interested in recording or playback acoustics, this is THE BEST. As an engineer and producer who has been involved in the construction of a dozen studios, I have the clients and architects read this before we start hard design parameters. For lay listeners, the chances are good your audio budget is better spent on acoustic treatment rather than a more exotic cable. For all of the above, this book will explain the what, why and how to get results. For professionals, it explains how to obtain designable results. I find it an easy read, and I refer to it occasionally, particularly when discussing room acoustics with neophyte "sound men" and audio engineers. I'd read it if I were you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Have you got time?
Despite its title, this book should better be called Master Handbook of Room Acoustics, as it is primarily and almost solely dedicated to the acoustics of enclosed rooms. With its over 600 pages you will need a large hand, and plenty of time to read. But the information you gather when reading the main text, could have been presented in less than half the number of pages. Despite - or is it because - the abundance of words and excursions into anecdotes, the explanations are sometimes missing the clue. The last few chapters have been written by others authors, and are more to the point. Besides, these co-authors use the SI system, while the main text is using American units. A bit out of time, I would say.

3-0 out of 5 stars Clear explanations
I agree with all reviewers about this very comprehensible book. I do not agree with the title. The introduction to acoustics is general, but the applications only deals with musical aspects. This restriction is of course valid but should be reflected in the title which now suggests, in by perception, to cover a very wide scope. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars think twice before getting
unless you have an awesome professor that teaches in detail your going to need additional books/resources to help you learn the subject. all the information in the book is vague, it goes into very little detail, and doesnt help you complete the problems at the end of the chapters

1-0 out of 5 stars Just go light $119 on fire...
...and save yourself the grief of trying to learn anything from this book. This is the required text in one of my EE courses and I haven't found a single redeeming quality in it yet.
1-0 out of 5 stars One of the worst written college books ever.
Having had to suffer through 1 semester of this book, I was horrified to learn that my school had decided to keep this book for the second semester of signals! This is book would be much better as a hyperlinked document, because the author continuously references other chapters and formula #'s.His examples are confusing, and leave you wondering what you are looking for.A visist to the book's website leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth.Honestly, if you need this book, find another book to use as a reference because you will need it. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Still excellent, but old in the tooth, and preposterously overpriced
Well, I guess it's been a while since I've been a college student. I'm a crusty old amateur radio hobbyist now. I guess all college texts have ridiculous prices. This book used to be the best reference I've ever seen on basic electronics for non-EE's, and even for non-engineers. It's not much of a cookbook - instead, it will make you sit down and work through the fundamentals of the circuits you're designing or adapting. The second ed. is getting long in the tooth, and since the book is used as a college text, it's preposterously overpriced. The one terrible thing about the book is that there are no answers to the (otherwise excellent) exercises, and you have to pay out again to get answers to the questions you're not sure about. It will be interesting to see what the 3rd ed. looks like. Maybe I'll start a web site and publish the answers online.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for working engineers
This is a book that belongs on the desk of every working
4-0 out of 5 stars Not outstanding, but still better than the rest....
Most, if not all, general electronics textbooks start from basic principles such as circuit analysis and low-level components (RLCs, semiconductor physics, etc) before briefly covering system design. Unfortunately, such texts drown readers in (mostly) useless theory and math that most engineers will never use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Taking a Simpler Step
I had worked with other editing softwares in the past so when I got Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 in the mail I was ready to start working! Then I realized this software had so much more to offer so I went to the manual and starting reading. By about the middle of it I thought I would never learn it. The manual was all over the place and didn't explain anything in human terms so I went online and found this book "for dummies" and I would seriously recommend this book to everyone. It takes the software and breaks it down in laymens terms with even sarcastic breaks for the long time reader. It was informative and witty.I use it as the Premiere bible and it sits right next to the computer the whole time I'm working. It also offers helpful hints on how to angle the camera and the proper equipment to have. It's freaking awesome and if you made it all the way to the end of this review..you have to get it. It's worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Basics, Poor Examples
As does the entire "Dummy" series, this book takes things from a very basic level and assumes little or nothing in the way of prior knowledge. It does an excellent job of explaining concepts and giving an overview of the Premier Pro software. After that, it falls short. The examples are very general and no disk is provided for tutorials. This lack of examples and of real tutorials makes learning the software, at least for me, more difficult. There were time when I thought I was following along correctly only to later learn that was not the case. If I had real examples to which I could compare my work, I would have gotten a lot further.
4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly retread of earlier versions but still good...
I bought Adobe Premiere for Dummies for version 6.5 and was able to quickly master the basics covered in the book, then within a few months, I upgraded to Premiere Pro. I also purchased the Premiere Pro for Dummies book to get a good primer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Little bit disappoint
This has many typos, which can be frustrating in following the context. And I found out that the typos are different to other 2nd editions. Little bit disappointing.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very technical book
I recommend this book for anyone pursuing a Certification like CWNA, CWNP or other wireless certifications. The technical concepts which are at the core of design, implementation, research, and invention of wireless communication systems are presented in an order that is conducive to understanding the general concepts, as well as those specific to current and evolving wireless communication systems and standards.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good information
In the course of making a film, we found this book to be very helpful. It organizes info about the business side of the filmmaking process.

4-0 out of 5 stars Went in a skeptic, came out a believer
Being a skeptic, I tested Mark's capsule exercises on a script I was preparing for the IFP Spotlight Award. The results were unnerving - I discovered buried treasure I didn't know I had within my story and eliminated an entire subplot that didn't service the STORY. Mark demystifies the concept of marketing, asking simple, direct questions. By asking "why would anyone want to see your film?" Mark goes past just marketing and addresses the issues that draw people to filmmaking in the first place. When I put the book down, I had a clear vision of the kind of filmmaker I want to be - and a great set of tools to get there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped sell my film
This book is so great! I got a copy after reading a review and it lived up to every claim. The techniques in the book's "Self-Distribution" section showed me how to set up regional sales for a film that otherwise has not made any money up until this point! I can now proudly say that my DVD is available in 17 video stores in Pennslyvania and New York thanks to the tips in this book! Get Bosko's book if you want to sell your film - it is that simple. ...
