5-0 out of 5 stars The best video book out there
I have several excellent books on video, and I have to say that this book is easily the best.Charles Poynton covers all of the basics in a very understandable and readable fashion.Video is a complicated topic, and one that is not well understood. There are many facets of video that are commonly confused, such as the differences, benefits and drawbacks of interlaced versus progressive scan video, or the difference between pixels and lines of resolution.Digital Video and HDTV Algorithms and Interfaces is very well written, and is a must-read for any serious video professional or hobbyist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book on video technology
"Digital Video and HDTV Algorithms and Interfaces" is definitely the best book on video and television I have ever hold in my hands.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not easy
I bought this book to understand basics and fundementals , it's quite organized and has a lot of info. in it , but you must have a good background to keep on reading and even you must have a lot of refrences to go back to while reading this book, at the first chapters there are instants that you need to go to chapter 16 to read then come back, I say this book is wonderfull if you have a good solid background ( mathematically and numericaly in Video standers and transforms... ). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for VLSI DSP
It is very nice book, all the areas are explained in a very clear manner. This is an example for How the book should be!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed,and thorough,an excellent book
Though being a beginner in VLSI systems, this book helped me get the grip in subjects I considered extremely difficult to grasp. It is well written, with many real-life examples and offers the reader wide range of knowledge . I think it is not only useful but absolutely indispensable for students and professional engineers alike .

1-0 out of 5 stars Priceless - or should be
I am completing my MSIS degree.I was required to use this textbook for one of my classes.I felt the book was possibly appropriate for an engineering computer science program on a "how things work" level but a terrible waste of time for business students. If I want to buy a cell phone I don't care HOW the cell phone works.I only care that it DOES work, and that it is dependable, accurate, reliable, and cost effective.Stop putting the OSI model in these textbooks.Just teach TCP/IP because that's what is used.If you're going to put problems at the end of the chapters, provide solutions to the students.Otherwise, you're just wasting paper because nobody will ever use them. Why work on them if you don't have a solution to compare your answers to?I have spoken to nearly half the people in my class. All agree. This textbook was a terrible choice for our class in the business program.None of us feel we learned anything of value from studying from this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Business Data Communications
This book arrived in a timely manner and in excellent condition. I would purchase fromthis seller again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not an Appropriate Introductory Textbook
A course I took earlier this year used this textbook, and I wasn't too fond of it.The book's explanations were very clinical, and other reviewers are correct in observing that it has many typographical errors (which are very frustrating when trying to solve mathematically inclined equations).

1-0 out of 5 stars Handbook???
This book calls itself "handbook". But it does not cover any details a handbook suppose to. Not remotely! A more appropriate title is probably "overview".

1-0 out of 5 stars really really weak
I bought this book based on previous reviews, most of them enthusiastic.
3-0 out of 5 stars Overall good level but somewhat superficial and security pitfalls
First of all, at present time you haven't got many options to choose from regarding WiMax. I purchased Ohrtman's handbook because it seemed to be a solid reference. I agree with this point, but in my opinion, the book only deserves 3 stars due to the following reasons:

1-0 out of 5 stars A Disgrace to Engineering
Probability and Random Processes can be easily approached with grace and elegance so long as the professor and/or writer possess such talents. All too often Albert Leon-Garcia comes across as a total wacko in the possession neither.

1-0 out of 5 stars Run and Hide
I intend to burn this book once the semester is over; it is utterly worthless. My professor was coerced to use the book and assigns homework from the book, but the exams look nothing at all like the homework or material from the book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Far too many examples
The text would be more focused, cheaper dollar-wise, and generally improved if the auther cut out all of the examples. They are essentially worthless.I really enjoy this material, but every time I go to the book as a reference, it's like watching a Golden Girls marathon, completely unbearable.I end up wading through example after example never finding any real substance ...and there is only one chapter on random processes! In short, too many examples make theory hard to find and follow. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Technology Demystified and Explained
One of the best call center books on the market, Call Center Technology Demystified gives a practical explanation of call center technologies in language a non-techie person can understand. We have found it valuable in our call center in helping our management team understand what to purchase and how to get themost out of their technology investment. Good work!

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential book for Contact Center leaders!
I have what I feel is a pretty extensive contact center reference library that I have accumulated over the past 15 years, ranging from call center design, CRM, CTI, speech recognition, benchmarking, telecom, etc. By far, the Call Center Technology Demystified book is THE book that I find myself referring to most often. Besides the holistic view of the contact center technologies, I have found the sections on Building a Customer Contact Technology Strategy and Information and Applications Bring CRM Strategies to Life sections to be valuable every day, every project. Great diagrams and charts add tremendous value to the clear and concise writing. This is also a book that will stand the test of time; the principles surrounding business drivers and the realistic expectations regarding CRM will provide value to contact center strategists for many years.

4-0 out of 5 stars Practical guide to call center technology
I have always been impressed with the fact that Lori and Dave view call center technology (and call centers in general) from a strategic viewpoint. Everything they do starts with asking overall business strategy questions. Call Center technology will only really be effective if it supports the overall business objectives. This is how Lori and Dave approach their consulting work, the seminars they conduct and how they approached writing this book. One of the great practical elements to this book, in each chapter there are numerous tables summarizing the strengths/weaknesses, pro/con, advantages/limitations for numerous elements of call center technology. I found these tables to be very useful, not only as a synopsis of what they just got done saying but also as a tool for a quick reference and a framework in formulating your decision making process. They also give examples of what the technology vendors will say about the technology so you as the technology buyer have a much better idea of how the vendors view and approach the technologies they are trying to sell you. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for both, under-graduate and post-graduate students
I find this book very professional educationally, the book starts in clever, easy, baby steps to trigger the reader's mind and to attract him to the radar technology, this is in the first half of the book. the second half boosts the reader withwell organized advanced radar systems. The book is excellent for communication as well as electomagnetics and antennae students, the book finds the way to balance this issue.

4-0 out of 5 stars A thorough but somewhat dated book
This book is one of the best introduction to Radar can be found in the market. I get the 2002 third edition. It is a good book for those who are new to the subject. However, it maybe somewhat dated and not that sufficient for those who want to do further research in particular radar area.

5-0 out of 5 stars Know the basics well before starting this book
I was in the USAF for 9 years and am now studying for a degree as an electronics technician. While in the service, I worked a variety of radar jammers and receivers and this volume has pieced together very well that is going on at the other end of the radar. While I learned how radars worked, I learned more how to exploit weaknesses, not the ins and outs of how exactly they were supposed to work. This book was very helpful in enhancing my knowledge of radar, and is an invaluable reference in my library. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Tough to Read - literally
While this book does have some useful content from the couple chapters I have read, the material is overshadowed by a serious problem - this is almost not readable in the literal sense.
3-0 out of 5 stars No Surprises
This book achieves its objective. I had not done simulations for years, and this book walks you through the process of learning Arena. It starts out simple--even without actual computer models, just a manual process. It moves through simple high-level, pre-coded models, and then adds complexity. All told, if you work your way through the book, you will understand Arena, a widely used programming language.Note, however, that the student version of the software in this book can only manipulate 15 entities. That's okay for learning, but for real production simulations to answer real questions, then you would need the professional version. That, of course, costs thousands of dollars. Your company would buy this. So, you see where I'm going: if you don't work in an environment that uses Area professionally, all the stuff you learned that is Arena-specific is, well, like memorizing baseball statistics. A nice hobby, but...

3-0 out of 5 stars This book is better than nothing.
Overall this is a good book, if a bit overpriced and wordy. Let me put it this way, I guess I really wouldn't want to be without this book. On the other hand, I found it frustrating to use when I needed quick answers, as these authors love getting right into the details. For example, when I wanted to add a conveyor to a process I was modeling, there wasn't a simple introduction at the beginning of the conveyer section to provide a quick, adequate overview. The book doesn't use effective formatting to help one quickly find specific things needed (i.e., Entities Entering Along Conveyor; Entity Proceeds if There is Space; Power and Free Conveyor; Synchronous Movement of Entities; Basic Accumulating; Basic Nonaccumulating; Processing on a Conveyor; Selecting Based on Inspection; Varying Entity Sizes on Accumulating; Failures for Conveyors; Two Merging to One; Choosing Alternate Conveyors; Merging Conveyors; Shrinking Parts on a Conveyor; etc.). Though I recommend this book, you may want to supplement it with another one (i.e., such as a "Dummy" type book) for those times when you need simple, fast answers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This is a very well written book on multirate SP.You don't have to be a DSP expert to understand what's being explained.Prof. Harris has over 40 yrs of teaching experience and it shows in the clarity of his examples and explanations.I use this book actively in my system simulations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Multirate Signal Processing for Communication Systems
Since fred harris is my all time favorite professor I may be a little biased. From what I have read so far it is in keeping with his style of being able to explain complex subjects in an understandable manner. After 30 years in the industry I am still using the tricks he taught me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall decent book
Good introduction to various speech processing techniques. Attempts were made to cover very broad areas such as speech synthesis, coding, and recognition; which obviously cannot be done in a single volume. The serious readers looking to specialize in any of the mentioned areas must find other sources for more thorough info. Also note that many materials in the book are already outdated due to rapid technological advances.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece in Engineering
This is the book to have on your shelf if you are a serious about speech processing. The authors give a through treatment to the fundamental issues involved in speech processing. This outstanding work of two leaders in DSP and Speech processing, will help you to get started with the fascinating subject of speech processing. The issues covered in the book are still relevant today as it was back in 1970's. Though a bit dated this work is a classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best speech processing book out there!
I am currently doing research for a speech processing project, and as I went through a good number of books, I was not able to find a more complete and technical source as Digital Processing of Speech Signals. In myopinion, the book has a perfect combination of theory and practice whenpresenting both time-domain and frequency-domain algorithms for speechanalysis and synthesis. I originally borrowed this book from a library, butnow I am getting my own. It is a must-have classic! ... Read more
