Go ahead, put me out of a job
I have been on several rescues (and heard of many more) that would have been completely unecessary if the sailboat captains aboard would have first read this book, purchased the necessary equipment, and practiced the skills taught by Lin Pardey.
Must Get This Book
If you are thinking about making a passage, then you have an emergency if you haven't purchased and read this book.

Highly readable and yet extremely informative
This fascinating book is the magnum opus of author and sword-expert Ewart Oakeshott (1916-2002). In it, the author traces the evolution of European (and only European) arms from prehistory to the fifteenth century. He shows how weapons changed in shape and composition, sometimes due to changes in technology (for example in the change from bronze to iron) and sometimes due to changes in society (for example in the development of chivalry).
A must have
This is a simple walktrough the age of blade weapons. Easy understood, good illustrations and serious written. It's not a boring learning book, but it is helpfull. Either you are a reenacter or an archeology student. Buy it!

A highly valuable reference for the aspiring medival scholar
I have 5 other books by this author; that ought to tell you that I'm a devoted reader of any book or article by the late E. Oakeshott.While not necessarily an 'easy read,' Mr. Oakeshott presents the information in a down-to-earth style.He doesn't ramble, but rather gets to the point.The tone of this book makes it accessible to people with any degree of knowledge of the subject of medieval swords, student or scholar.Many of Oakeshott's ideals are backed by actual period quotes which can be found here. ... Avro Arrow
Bought this for my husband's birthday and he loves it.Enjoyed the technical part and feels the story line is pretty close to the facts.Pictures are great.

truly engrossing
One of the finest book dedicated to this controversial program! Being interested in technical details and aircraft perfomances,I found many factory drawings about structures, internal systems arrangements, armamentlayout and cutaway views. Important performance figures are available fromtables and charts. But the most interesting feature is the the descriptionof the development and testing phase that shows all the potential of thisdoomed plane. Finally some basic facts on an aircraft still surrounded byan halo of mistery about its birth and its death!

An outboard collector's reference
After reading the 2nd edition of Peter Hunn's The Old Outboard Book I couldn't wait to get the revised and expanded 3rd edition. I take the book with me when I go looking for old outboards and swap meets. No better reference exists in my opinion.

The Old Outboard Book
This book has become the "Bible" for most outboard collectors.It has everything in one place.The big list ofalmost ALL known US outboard manufacturers,The price guide which is the only published guide of its kind, developed thru consultation with a good cross section of prominent and active collectors, Great Serial number guides, Spark plug charts, and much more.Peter's style is very readable, with a "story" connected to each brand. Hundreds of outboard collectors keep a copy in their car, while touring the country looking for additions to their collections.Most helpful to identify, and value that Garage sale or Outboard meet, find.HIGHLY recommended, especially for those new to the hobby.

Save Your Money
This book is stretched between a technical manual and a coffee table book way too tight. Hunn covers the larger manuf. with research that could be found on any historical website, and briefly touches on the rare and obscure in general descriptions.Do not rely on this book for technical information.Simply order specific parts lists for the motors you have. I would like to know if Hunn's other book was better as a picture book, as this one was too poorly written to be of any enjoyment. ... Read more

This was an excellent book which described the achievements and events of Edgar Schmeud, the principle designer of the P-51 Muatang. It also gives an in depth history of the accelerated development of the mustang during WWII. Amazing -- the best book on US WWII fighters
This is the best, most-amazing book on US WWII fighter aircraft that I have ever read, and I've read a lot of them.There are other good ones out there, but this one is very special.I didn't even know about it until it was mentioned by a fellow pilot in Aces High.I'm very glad for that chance method by which I learned of this fine work.

excellent and comprehensive
Make no mistake, this book isn't for military enthusiasts who want to know about the operational history of the planes mentioned and who shot down what with it, leave that to the hundreds of other books out there on the same subject. The purpose of this book is to give you a true in-depth and technical understanding of each of america's fighter aircraft.
The best overall book on American Fighters of WW2.
If you need info on how these planes worked, real detail, not the typical picture book fluff, in the average book, this is the book for you.

More than a gun book
I just finished re-reading War Baby and I can attest that Larry Ruth did a bang up job on presenting a great amount of data.While the specifics on parts identification is there for collectors, and many diagrams of differences between manufacturers is helpful to the committed carbine nut, the greatest strength of this work is the painstaking research done to give a solid appreciation of what our country was like during WWII and to identify and honor the industrialists who overcame almost unbelieveable odds to get this rifle into the hands of troops.Each manufacturer has a section with tidbits and trivia about their successes and failures.The heroics of the employees of these various companies is highlighted and credit is given to shop foremen, designers, ordnance officials, and the average worker who made the whole system work.This is a fascinating historical work even if you're not interested in the carbine.It's expensive but you'll not be sorry.

Expedient Homemade Firearms: The 9mm Submachine Gun

Greatest Book
This is a must have for all gun fans. It shows exactly how to build an automatic gun any size from 22 caliber to 12 gauge. Can be built by anyone from simple easily found materials, it looks great too.

Designing Power & Sail by Arthur Edmunds
Very nice reference manual. More drawings and diagrams would make this a better book.

It covers the basics
I found the book to be quite informative from a preliminary point of view. The book covers the main areas of yacht design and construction in a condensed way. I say that only because if you are looking for a deeper understanding of the some of the fundemental principles (math and science stuff) at work in a yacht you won't find it in this book. You do get a great summation though. It was a great introduction into the boat design process. I would highly recommend the book if you need to get a grip on the basic issues at work in the design and construction of craft in the 30 - 100 foot class.

Extermely in depth learning and reference tool.
This is the first (recent) design book I have found that truely covers all aspects of boat design and construction for all building materials, boat types and boat sizes. It's easy to understand but the reader must be sharpin math to properly use the information.Read more

An excellent reference. This book contains listings for nearly every IJNship up to the end of WWII. This book does not have pages of descriptiveinfo concerning ship types, instead this book's info is listed in shorttabular layouts. All in all a great book to have if you are interested inthe IJN.

A very complete review on Imperial Japanese Navy's warships
The book is very complete, listing almost EVERY warship, of every size and type,manned by the IJN during the covered period. The data are quite detailed and the book is filled with a lot of fine drawings. The photos are not so numerous but all of them are of good quality. Every class is briefly described in all respects: technically, historically and as regard the operational career of each ship till her life's end (scrapped or lost, it doesn't matter). If you are looking for a complete reference on the IJN's warships, you can't miss this book: I own a good warship library, comprising other books dealing with the IJN, but I regard this one my true reference on the matter! ... A book that must be practiced.

Well written book about emergency ocean navigation.
This book covers simple and indepth information of all aspects of emergency navigation. The material includes use of celestial observation tools that are hand made, navigation with and without a time piece and use of surrounding weather conditions. The Best Book by Skulski
Janusz Skulski is probably one of the foremost IJN experts outside of Japan and his books are known for their meticulous research and first class drawings.Skulski uses sources in Japan with ties to the IJN and this isreflected in his books.This effort on the cruiser Takao is probably hisbest effort, with more information than the Yamato book (of course, theYamato was sunk and information on her is sparse-Takao survived the war,albeit in a damaged state) and none of the editing flaws which marred hislatest book on the Fuso. My Thoughts (for whatever they're worth)
Janusz Skulski's second contributation to the "Anatomy of the Ship" series, I thought that this was a bit more polished than the "Yamato" volume.These two books together are one of the bestEnglish-language resources (that I am aware of) for WWII Japanese navyvessels.This book has everthing; from profiles of the ship as it appearedin its career, down to the rivet patterns used to assemble the hull, all inscaled drawings. ...
