Outstanding accuracy of dates & places
I was part of the original crew aboard the Missouri from Commissioning Day, June 11, 1944 until March, 1946 as a Radioman in the CR Division.Paul Stillwell did an outstanding job of giving an accurate account of dates and places involving the USS Missouri from the first bolt installed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard until the present time.I use this book quite often to refresh my memory of the exact dates of various things that happened while I was aboard.I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing an accurate history of the USS Missouri = BB63.

Superb Documentary
Perhaps I am a bit prejudice since I am also one of the contributors to the book. Before retiring from Civil Service (Navy) I was the configuration manager for the reactivations of the four Battleships.I was familiar with the author's previous works and was very impressed with his attention to the personal stories of the ships. After retirement, I was then free to provide the author any and all personal knowledge of the ship's reactivation period at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard.Paul selected the best memories I documented and included them superbly into the book.The author does not go into the technical aspects as to how a Battleship is built, leaving that up to other authors more inclined to include how many rivets were driven, etc.Though I wish he had the space to include the TRUE story of the origin of the cracked armor panel in the turret of barbette III.No, it was NOT caused by the grounding in Hampton Roads but was a heat treating surface fracture that occured during manufacture. But technical manuals are not the author's style and I am glad they are not.After all, a ship is really the culmination of dedicated and skilled human beings who built her and the ship's success is the dedication and bravery of the men who sailed her.Paul Stillwell brings this human interest across very well.And, I'm sorry, but I did not buy the book.I was sent an autographed copy by the author which I will treasure forever. A Medieval Reenactor's Perspective
As a medieval reenactor with a nautical persona, I bought this book to get some information on navigational instruments used in the Middle Ages. This book is a gold mine of information on making and using traditional navigational instruments. Although some of the instruments do not fit into my time of interest (Western Europe 1066-1603), most do, and the instructions on making and using them are good. The historical information is spotty,and some information does not agree with other sources that I consider reliable, but this is not intended as a history book, and the information it DOES provide on construction and use fills in a lot of gaps in other sources. This is a must-have book if you want to know how to make and use medieval navigational instruments.

An interesting book!
This is an interesting book for those who want to know a bit more about the history of navigational tools, by showing you how to build a few of them.Don't expect to build a high-precision instrument directly from the contents, but if you are looking for a book that will start you on the right path, then this is it.

Clymer Mercruiser Shop Manual
This shop manual is very extensive in most of its information and instructions. The illustrations and photographs however leave a lot to be desired. The illustrations or drawings are difficult to follow because all lines are drawn the same and are all in black and white. The photographs all in black and white are difficult to use. Some are fuzzy or too small to be able to see small parts and details. The manual obviously has not been updated recently. In your search for the best shop manual I would recommend buying the one with the most recent updated edition. I purchased a Clymer manual based on reputation and price. This is a comprehensive, large volume, with extensive text, line drawings (by Alan Raven) and photos. The prospective purchaser should be aware that a generous portion of the book is given to detailing large numbers of alternative designs - if you are interested only in ships actually built then you might skip over these sections.

One step from useless
Very little,incomplete, general information.Nothing specific about any of the engines listed.If you need a manual for a service or repair procedure that you have never done, look elsewhere!Also, the type set looks like someone typed it on a "1928 Underwood" typewriter.
My engine is not covered
I bought this book expecting my 1990 Johnson 88HP engine to be covered.This book does not even list any 88 HP Johnson engines.I am very dissappointed with it.

Used book to Pass Army Flight Test
I was surprised that this book was "on it" when it came to the test questions that they ask you. I can't speak how well it is when it comes to the other branch tests, but it helped me prepare for the test giving me a passing score.

If this is not the definitive book, it must come pretty close. As one of the most respected naval analyst, the author covers the birth and development of submersible ships and submarines with minute details from their inceptions to the II WW latest types. U.S. Submarines through 1945: An Illustrated Design History
Quite simply THE authoritative work on post-World War Two American submarines and the design and tactics philosophies that went into creating them. The photographs were well-chosen and the line drawings are some ofthe best I've seen of U.S. subs.
