A Nice Introductory Book to Satellite Meteorology
This is a very good book for atmospheric science and meteorology students and researchers. It includes many topics that are very useful for both educational and research purposes: the orbits of satellites, theinstruments they carry, the radiation they detect, and, most importantly,the fundamental atmospheric data that can be retrieved from theirobservations.I first read this book when I was a graduate student inatmospheric sciences.Most books I have read are concerned with dynamicsor physics, which are the classical fields.Very few of them discuss thepractical yet not so established topics like satellite meteorology.Thisbook is the most comprehensive one I have ever read that covers this wholenew field. ... It is reasonably priced and seems to be well organized, addressing a lot of important problems. Aside from the discussion of thermodynamics, Professor Pielke's book is lucid and coherent. Read more

A good short introduction to radiative forcing
The IPCC-1994 follow up on the first two reports of the IPCC working group one (WG1) reports on climatic change gives a good compendium of our knowledge on anthropogenic (and natural) radiative forcing of the atmosphere and the climate system. The book fills the hole that new findings in the last couple of years have created. It will be mostly for specialists that have to know things before the rest. A Must for Haz Mat Responders
This piece of literature tells all, from the use of simple one gas instruments to undertanding Mass Spect readings. If you thought you knew about air monitoring read the book, I gaurantee you will find some excellent information.

EXCELLENT
Having no college background, but a great interest in the weather, I searched high and low for a comprehensive book that would be understandable and informative.This book greatly increased my knowledge of the weather. It is a quality textbook that covers, in depth, what other books just touchon.High and low pressure systems, fronts, weather systems, trade winds,jet streams, precipitation, clouds, visual effects, measuring devices andmuch more.I would really love to get the next book that carries on wherethis one left off, but to go much farther will probably require moreknowledge of math and physics.This book also gave me the desire forfurther learning.It's almost contagious because the information is soamazingly interesting.I would recommend this book to anyone who trulyloves weather study.Completing the questions in each section really helpsto hold the information gained.

An excellenttext, and a super home library reference.
This is the textbook for a course I just took in Junior College (St. Pete, FL). Although I have many other texts and references on Weather on my shelves, The Atmosphere will take the number one spot now.The diagramsand illustrations are very good, and the Appendices are worth the cost ofthe book alone. A carefully written well-illustrated non-technical textbook.
I am not qualified to judge the content of this evidently widely-used textbook but it seems carefully written, eg its treatment the relationship between the temperature of a parcel of air and the amount of water vapor itcan carry, bearing in mind the cautions on the subject at Penn StateUniversity's "Bad Meteorology" web site. It appears to becomprehensive in scope to judge from its Table of Contents, which iscomparable to that of other introdutory non-technical meteorology texts Ihave seen.
