Excellent, practical, book
This book is filled with tons of little tricks and devices to make farm life easier. Much of the information is old and so it may not be of as much use to someone with a high tech farm, but if you still do some things the old fashioned way, this book probably has something that can help you. And even if you can't use the stuff, it's interesting to read.

How to RestoreClassic Farmall Tractors
This is a very informative book with lots of good color photos and descriptive, but not model specific info on evaluating,tear down,inspecting and repairing componants. Each chapter is devoted to a seperate componant or system. The paint chapter focuses on selecting different types of paint,primers,sealers. There are suggestions on selecting and applying decals. I found a nice appendix with contact info for parts suppliers and clubs. I didn't see much about tractors made after the late 50's. This book would be a great companion to a detailed shop manual for someone who has little or no experience working on tractors. There is also a chapter that gives ideas on tools and tool selection.

The History of International Harvester
This book is an excellent history on IH.It is the best one that I have seen.Unlike many books on tractors, this does not stop in about 1960 but covers IH to the end of the independent company in 1985.It goes to the latest prototypes that were never produced.It has detailed history of the corporate decisions of IH.There are many color pictures also. This is truly the definitive history of IH.

If you enjoy historical biographies, check this book out!
"The John Deere Story" tells a great tale.It focuses on John Deere's development of the modern plow, his successes and failures as a businessman and his business-minded son Charles' success in promoting what is now an international brand.But what also makes this story great is the insight into the 1800's modernization of agriculture and the development of a modern Midwestern city (Moline, Illinois).Because industrialization was still young, it was interesting to read about trademark rights, competition, sales, antitrust arguments and other modern business practices that were being established at the time the Deere family was beginning to make its mark.
