Masters Student textbook
This book was so advanced and technical that it was almost entirely useless to me.It is clearly for an advanced sound technician, someone who is going to be building concert halls and what not.I was looking for something with information on building a sound studio for a client.Too technical, too advanced.If your teacher doesn't require it, why the hell would you buy it.I gave it a 2 because someone will make use out of it somehow, someday, somewhere...i guess.

Good reference with case studies

Dear Amazon, Please Take this book off your shelves
The only audio book I've NEVER been able to finish, written by the only man I would like to see depart the educational world along with the university. This is a degrading piece of trash to any 'doctor' out there. Just take a visit to UMass Lowell and see the impact this book has caused on its students.
wrong title.....
William Moylan looks to be an expert in the industry and he tries to write a book that's different than other books; no straight point to the topic and no cook book.He is a professor at university and he knows about stuff that other people don't. He can write wonderfully about audio and use his powerful English to get you into it.So he thinks he can write such a book.Ok till now everything sounds good and you think this is gonna be a great book right?But the problem starts when he finds out that he doesn't have enough material to write in his book.Like the other person said this book had to be fewer than 150 pages not 320.He tells you the same thing over and over and over in the same page.He talks about some obvious stuff.One of my biggest problems with this book was that author tells you what you should be but fails when he advises you how to be it.He mentions many times that you have to develop a perfect hearing but doesn't really tell you how. But don't get me wrong I still highly recommend this book cause of its exclusive information but the title of this book is wrong.May be a title like "Hearing and Recording" would work better than the current one.Overall I give it a bad rate for wasting my time and 2.5 stars for the material that's included in this book which you won't find it anywhere else.
This is a book with a difference
Most books rechew the same basic homerecording info you already read dozens of times. This book stands out with info you don't read anywhere else. It's mostly about training and development of hearing.Read more

This book is easy to read with many practical examples described in simple basic acoustical or structural terms. Outstanding book in duct acoustics
This is the one and only book available on duct acoustics. The author presented the topics nicely and should be in the book shelf of every acoustician.

This is one of the specialised book in the topic of duct acoustics. It is unfortunate that it is out of print. In fact this is a must for those specialising in the subject of flow acoustics. I wish that it should get republished.

The best book on Audio System Engineering
This is THE BIBLE on sound system engineering.You'll find no better reference for sound system issues in an easy to understand book.This is not for the novice who knows nothing of sound or physics or math.It's for those that truely understand basic concepts and want to learn "how sound works".

Great mid level text
We've used this book as both a historical reference to get our folks up to speed, and the material is still pertinent to predictive analysis today.I've been using it since the first edition and find it a useful part of a complete acoustics library.

High expectations low return
Very esoteric, helpful if your having and argument about the physics of sound....Old, out of date pictures and test instruments. Some of which haven't been around for ten years. Very little practical information, you read and read and read looking for some practical conclusions.Absolutely FILLED with mathematical calculations. I'm not put off by these but they are out of balance with there usefulness.This books seems like it was written to fulfill someones PHD requirements.There are some useful chapters on electrical or speaker basics but they seem included only to bring this book down from outer space. ... Covers math & science of sound emphasizing musical instruments
The book by Rossing and Fletcher is a portion of the wonderful Physics of Musical Instruments by the same authors and it accordingly covers all the background material in waves and vibrations that might be applicable to that topic. This book, unlike "Physics of Musical Instruments", was written as a textbook rather than a reference. This book omits EM waves, but covers most of the other necessities. Most of the chapters conclude with brief Appendices going into greater detail on specific topics. All the problems are collected at the back of the book and they are too few and stated, perhaps, a bit too briefly. You should probably be an advanced undergraduate with courses in engineering physics, acoustics, and mathematics through ordinary and partial differential equations in order to get the most from this book.
