5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Desktop Reference
I looked long and hard for a book this thorough.A buddy of mine had Crevelings tolerancing book and I thought that was excellent. As I finished my masters degree, I needed a thorough desktop reference that I thought represented best in class. That's exactly what this book is.Since each chapter is written by the major players in these areas, this book is much more than one authors views on the topics.Rather, it is a best in class compilation from some of the sharper folks here in the US doing dimensioning and tolerancing.Paul's chapters themselves are excellent and very thorough. His discussion on how to incorporate the geometric controls into stackup analyses is excellent.Overall, this book should be on every mechanical engineers desktop along with the ASME GD&T standard and Montgomery's books on Quality Control and Design of Experiments.Hats off to Paul and all the other authors for their excellent work!

5-0 out of 5 stars bought used, great value
I would say the first 1/2 is GD&T. The 2nd 1/2 covers tolerancing methods. I have learned a lot from the 2nd half. It covered a lot of new information, in clear terms. I have been through six sigma certification. This is a valuable book in my toolbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dimensioning and Tolerancing Handbook
This book includes an extraordinary consolidation of cutting edge information and innovative authors that are truly on the "bleeding edge of technology"!Each chapter covers different topic areas by individuals practicing these design techniques and tools in the real world today. The chapters cover everything from an overview of the various quality thursts, to tolerance allocation techniques, to maximizing GD&T, to Statistical tolerancing, to developing process capability models for DFSS (Designing for Six Sigma), and much more. This text is surely one of the best ever compiled as a consolidation of the contained related subject matter. This is a priceless body of knowledge in a single book! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Arts of the Sailor: Knotting, Splicing and Ropework
Good informative book in the areas of knotting and ropework but lacks information on splicing weaves. Only shows how to splice twists. Halyards on my boat are weaves as are on most sailboats and therefore I'll have to obtain this information elsewhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprensive Modern Yacht Design Reference
This is one of the best modern references on the topic of sailing yacht design.Highly recommended for anyone planing to design a sail boat.I personally would put more emphasis on optimizing the prismatic coefficient as a function of design speed.I would also make the book larger and include more information on power boats, various piping systems and electrical systems.

3-0 out of 5 stars A reasonable introduction...
This publication can be summed up as a reasonable introduction into conventional "modern" yacht design. However, it seems to be tailored towards amateur boat builders or even the keen sailor. A lot of ground is covered, but it only scratches the surface on many subjects. But perhaps this is all one should expect from a publication that only claims to cover the "principles" of yacht design. In my opinion as a naval architect, the book seems to lack depth and scientific data that could make it an interesting read or reference work for the professional.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Design Guide
The second edition of this book is an excellent step by step guide to both power and sail design. The book is written by a professor and professional yacht designer, that provide both excellent science and practical experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Use This Book!
Since first encountering Egan's text a little more than 20 years ago, I've continued to return to it for solid information. Complex material is presented in a way that allows me to apply it to unique conditions at hand. Some of the world-class acoustics consultants with which we've had the privilege to work rely on Egan to help communicate complex ideas.Without compromising too much real technical nuance, the ideas are so clearly communicated that I was able to offer the book to members of a church in eastern Europe working to improve the condition of their worship space.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for architects
I am an acoustical consultant... I have read a lot of books onarchitectural acoustics. I found this book unique of its kind. The concepts are introduced by plenty of figures and illustrations with informative text that make the discussed subject easy to read and comprehend especially by the architects. Writing on the figures and using checklists added a lot of understandibility. Also the text itself is informative and directly address the subject. In other words, the book is excellent and comprehensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have
I'm a architecture student and I think this book is like a bible of acoustics in architecture. It brings detailed info for designing places with good acoustic performance whit various technics and for the mostdifferent type of places like a simple residential to auditoriums andconcert rooms. I have other acoustics books (like William Cavanaugh's) andthey always make mention to David Egan's book. If you're in search on booksabout architectural acoustics, I think that must be the first one to buy. It's a must have in any architect biblioteque. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Too technical for and audio "engineer"?!? LOL
This book is an update of Everest's classic "Acoustic Design for Home and Studio". It is great for what it is. For more capable types, Everest's "Master" book is more complete. This one has the basics. For those who thought this is too technical, I wonder how they expect to deal with the other aspects of audio engineering. Just knowing how to twist a knob is not a path to excellence.
3-0 out of 5 stars too technical
if you are on a financial budget, you are likely on a time budget, and this book can be a time sucker.it reminded my of my high school trigonometry book.I didn't spend much time with that, either. To the defense of the writer, my friends in the business who actually know what they are doing, swear by this guy and his books.I, however, am just trying to make a room in my house sound a little better, and could care less to know about the science behind it any more than I care about the science behind a combustion engine while I'm driving.I recommend 'basic home studio design' by paul white.simple, small, easy, the minimum that you need to know- but as much as i think 90% would need.

2-0 out of 5 stars WAAAAY TOO TECHNICAL

2-0 out of 5 stars Rather dated material
I started out with a mean review of this book, but then I started to feel guilty, so will keep it simple. This is clearly a 1970's style production, and the choice of images, image quality, etc. reflect it. If that was your time, and you like that sort of thing, by all means go for it. If your looking for well shot images of exceptional yacht interiors or ideas for a restoration project (like me) then keep looking or get if from a library first to decide if its worth owning. As someone who is willing to look at pictures of almost anything nautical, I found it pretty disappointing - mostly because it is so out of date and unprofessional by modern standards. There are a few classic yacht images worth seeing, but much of it is run-of-the-mill boat interiors of the day. I regret being so harsh because I'm sure a lot of work went into this in its day, but in my opinion, it is time to let go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and very helpful to my own liveaboard experience.
While I do not own a copy personally, I have repeatedly borrowed this book from the local library. Now someone else has permanently "borrowed" it, and I will need to buy a copy!I have found it to unparalleled in providing information and inspiration in my first years as a liveaboard aboard a 30' sailboat. While I could never hope to own a boat like most of the ones shown in this book, the photos and text take me right inside the boats and lives of their owners, helping me find my own comfort level and validating my own desires and needs below decks.A friend to me for years, I cannot say enough about it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source of information
My fiance is in the Navy and he bought me a copy of this when I went to see him pass-in-review. He told me that it would answer a lot of my questions I might have had- well it has! I learned about differnt ships, all of the information on Tricare (the Navy's insurance), dependents...you name it, it's in there! If you've got a loved one in the Navy (child, spouse, fiance/e, girlfriend/boyfriend, sibling, etc.) I suggest this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Info from the Editor
This book provides, for the first time, a single complete reference on microphone arrays. Top researchers in this field contributed articles addressing their specific topics of study. The results cover the current state of the art in microphone array research, development, and technological application. Part I concerns the problem of enhancing the speech signal acquired by an array of microphones. Part II is devoted to the source localization problem. Part III details some specific applications of microphone array technology available today. Part IV presents expert summaries of current open problems in the field, as well as personal views of what the future of microphone array processing might hold. The individual chapters selected for the book were designed to be tutorial in nature with a specific emphasis on recent important results. 5-0 out of 5 stars What you need to know
Similar to other books in the series. Style wise, this is the opposite of The Sailmaker's Apprentice by Marino. This is not a book to pick up while sitting by the fire sipping tea. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book but, Over Priced
I have some basic knowledge of irrigation and right off the bat I was irritated with the way the chapters where laid out.He starts right in with sprinkler head performance and layout before going into the explanation of irrigation, and the basic principles of hydraulics that I believe should be the foundation what you learn first before anything else. The other thing that was that for the money I don't believe it was worth it maybe more like $20-25.Most of the information you can find on the internet searches. But, all in all it was a very easy reading book that did help me fill some holes in my irrigation knowledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simplified irrigation design
This resource is excellent. Extreme detail, great illustrations, and information that is not provided by other typical irrigation books you'll find at Home Depot. I'm a landscape designer and highly recommend this resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to learn to install a professional system
I read this book to get ready to take my Texas Irrigation License exam. It explained how to properly install a professional quality sprinkler system in an easy to read and understand format. This book goes into detail abouthow to layout the sprinkler heads, how to pipe it all together, and how allthe parts work together. I have read many irrigation books...This was thebest book to get a good understanding of sprinkler systems without becomingan expert in the field of irrigation. Perfect for the do it yourselfhomeowner or individual wanting to get into the irrigation industry. I nowhave my license and highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learnto install a good sprinkler system without having to read an irrigationreference manual. ... Read more
