This dictionary contains many common terms, but if you are an engineer and are looking for a word you don't already know, you will not find it here.I bought this book to take with me for the PE exam, there were a few words on the exam that I was not familiar with, none of them were in this dictionary.

Convient
I think, this is the most safe way to have need matterial specially book from a reliable source.

A Good Resource for the PE Exam
I found the McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Engineering to be a valuable resource when taking the Chemical Engineering PE Exam (Principles & Practice of Engineering).Having this resource with me on Exam Day enabled me to bag several of the 80 questions that I probably would have missed otherwise.Read more

Excellent casual referance
This book has achieved just the right balance between throughness and overview so that I have been able to refer to it in a casual manner (once every 3-6 months) and been able to use the results without taking a new college course.I am a practicing Analog electronics engineer and thermal engineering is something I only do once (perhaps more ?) during a design/project. ... This book will change the way you think.
This book will change the way you think. It's as simple as that.Really eye-opening and persuasive arguments and examples as to why the absence of accidents per se is not an adequate indicator of a system's safety. Near-accidents are a better metric.Fascinating!

Recommend but there are some errors in the details
I purchased and read the book for the concepts but enjoyed the examples.However, I did find several errors in the events in which I am familiar. Specifically those of space flight.In as little as four pages (pp267-270) he makes three errors.It makes me wonder about the accuracy of the rest of the book's examples.
The Beginnings of an Influential Theory
having obtained a second hand copy of "Normal Accidents" in the original 1984 edition, it is fascinating to see how many of the accident scenarios are still valid today. When compared with Lagadec's thesis published in 1982 ("Major Technological Risk", Pergamon Collection Futuribles, o. o. p.), the style is easier to understand, and the book is leaning a little more towards US culture and thinking of the 1980s. Incidentally, Lagadec himself reflected in a 1997 paper how "Normal Accident Theory" had become one of the generic views that engineers and/or sociologists had developed since the early 1990s. Even in 1996, Hood and Jones ("Contemporary Debates in Risk Management") quote Perrow as one of the significant contributors to the fundamental debate in risk management.

Fundamentally boring
The read of this book compares to reading an Encyclopedia, a very long, fact heavy, read. Having said that the books works as a reference guide. If you need to quickly refresh yourself on the various methods of welding this book is good. If you're sitting down by the pool to educate yourself on a pipeline, this book is not for you. ... WRONG EDITION!!!!
The page says the 9th Edition, which was written in 2001, for sale.Used and new starting @ $29.41. The catch is, all of the used books are earlier editions.Most are from the sixties.When I ordered the book, I expected to get the 9th edition.I received the 6th edition.What a joke.This is a total misrepresentation of the price.Amazon should be ashamed of this type of shady business tactic.Now I have to spend ~ $200 to get a new "9th" edition.Amazon should not have earlier editions on the same page.This is nothing more than 'bait and switch' tactics.Shame on you Amazon.

Hence the title - Illustrated
A very well illustrated book, Charlie Wing writes in an easy-to-follow style.Intended for the boat owner, this will help you work on minor to medium projects and converse intelligently with the boatyard for complex projects.

Not perfect but the best there is for new installation
I have them all from Calder to "Living on 12 Volts" to "12 Volt Bible for Boats" and this one is the one that sits next to my breaker pannel. Good for the beginner or before you have serious problems

Good refence booklet.
Excellent reference booklet for the specific target groups. Clear no nonsense text and good photographs. Could have contained more samples (pictures) of devices that have been used over the years and the damage that was inflicted in order to emphasize the risks and illustrate to rescue workers extreme caution is necessary.

Explosives Identification Guide
I have taught scores of classes over the years in basic munition recognition and bomb threat and search procedures.One of the problems has always been finding good, basic instruction materials for teaching PDs,FDs, Schools, Hospitals, etc.Mike Pickett has filled the void.While toosimple for the experienced bomb tech, this book covers the basics very wellfor the novice, especially when used in conjunction with the video series. The photos could be larger, but are clear, numerous, and well colored.Iwould consider these materials a valuable tool for any emergency responsetraining section.

Mike Pickett has written a book that should be in the hands of every First Responder.The book not only gives clear guidelines on what to do when responding to bomb threat calls, it also has good color pictures of some of the different explosives that maybe encountered. Highly useful book for wireless reference
Wireless Spectrum Finder has come full circle. It was originally published as SpectrumGuide in hardcopy, then published as an electronic book, and has now reverted back to hardcopy, published by McGraw-Hill. I was permitted to see a review copy of SpectrumGuide, and while it was tremendously useful to have the ability to do keyword searches, I like the book format of Wireless Spectrum Finder even better than I liked SpectrumGuide. Wireless Spectrum Finder is an annotated list of the various spectrum allocations in the US. In that role, it's extremely valuable to see Kobb's notes on how a particular chunk of spectrum came into use (and often what use it served prior to being reallocated), how it is encumbered, and what "special features" it has. Kobb basically works his way through the spectrum, and handles what could be a dry and dull job with grace and humor. In the sections of particular interest to me, such as 902 - 928 MHz, 2.4 to 2.485 GHz, etc. Kobb does a very credible job of explaining the varying (and at times conflicting) uses of a particular chunk of spectrum. At one point I offered some feedback that Kobb didn't make particular note of the fact that 2.4 - 2.485 GHz was heavily used by ISP's using Part 15 equipment, and that comment was included in the next issue of SpectrumGuide (and was incorporated into Wireless Spectrum Finder). Of particular note is that Kobb maintains an online errata list on his web page. This is particularly welcome for a reference work. I highly recommend Wireless Spectrum Finder. It's an excellent reference work and I find it indispensable in my work as a writer dealing with wireless issues. It has found a permanent home on the "gotta be within easy reach" top shelf of the bookcase behind my desk. ... Read more
