Most recent ME handbook is of poor quality.
I originaly bought this book as an answer to there being no new edition of Marks' in nine years.In the table of contents resources is spelled 'resouses'.In the section on gas-turbine calculations turbine is spelled 'turine'.If these typos are typical of the quality of this book, what is the chance that an equation or parameter out of the data are incorrect?The text is mainly essay in nature providing general information but usualy not saying how to calculate or do anything. ... Below Grade Waterproofing
A good book and very good in depth knowledge of proper installation of systems. How ever a previous review mentioned a non bias approach....I beg to differ...it looks to me that Mr. Henshell is very pro and friendly with certain manufacturers.

With the oldest known waterproofing going back 4,000 years you'd think someone would have recorded the wisedom of the ages on how to keep water out of the building.Finally someone has! Terrific Resource!
This wonderful fourth edition of this classic ISO 9000 resource was released in late 2002. The ISO 9000 Handbook Fourth Edition from Robert Peach contains all new content on the most recent revisions to ISO 9000 and includes a bonus CD-ROM containing transition guidance from each of QSU Publishing's Big Ten Registrars of North America along with the verbatim text of ISO 9000:2000, ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 9004:2000. This is a very good deal considering that the standards alone, if purchased separately, cost more than the price of the fourth edition Handbook. It is also important to specify that you want The ISO 9000 Handbook Fourth Edition Edited by Robert Peach as there are several similar-sounding titles out there.

Great Desktop Aid for Implementors
Immensely useful to me as a implementor, thanks to the various subject matter experts that have contributed their knowledge. Gave me a goodperspective on QS 9000.

Nice printing but the Publisher skimped on bookbinding
The Publisher chose a hardbound book with gold foil stamping on the spine only with a nice UV coated dust jacket.The paper is a nice 90 lb enamel stock.But the publisher skimped on the book binding.On a two and 1/4inch thick book the Publisher chose not to sew the binding.The Publisherchose not to burst-bind either.The binding is milled clean then a perfectbound notch was used with PUR glue.The book doesn't even have headbandswhich would have cost 1/10th of a cent per book!Why choose such niceprinting and then skimp on the most important part, the binding? Thebinding is all right.The problem is that the price is not commensuratewith the quality of the binding.McGraw-Hill priced this book like a textbook where there is only a limited market and a limited time window thePublisher can sell the book.This is not the case with this title.ThePublisher should engage in market segmentation pricing tactics that doesn'tconsider it's customers merely students with no choice in the purchase.Ihave only read the first 30 pages.I will review content when I'm done. Fair's Fair
The comment in the previous review about thermal radiation and heat radiation is fair enough, but I feel the reviewer is being unfair in other respects. The reason why there is no "See.." in the main text isbecause there is a very good index at the back!For instance under Carbonin the index, there is a page reference to radiocarbon dating.OK, thereis no mention of carbon dating, so you would have to see radiocarbondating, but you only have to scan a few lines of the index under the mainentry on Carbon to find it.The comment about atomic energy is(unintentionally) misleading.Sure, the entry on atomic energy is veryshort, but there is a fair-sized entry on nuclear power and there is across-reference from atomic energy.Although the entry on nuclear energyis rather shorter than the two entries on oil and gas exploitation (a morerelevant comparision than black pepper), it is backed up another fair-sizedentry on nuclear reactors.I do think McGraw-Hill have made a decenteffort to create an affordable science encyclopedia. (This refers to the3rd edition, but I imagine the 4th edition is very similar).

A great deal of info, poorly organized, wrong proportions
This book contains an enormous amount of information.However, there aretwo major problems. 1. It is often hard to find what you are looking for ifyou aren't using the same terminology they are.For instance, I looked for"Carbon dating", and it isn't listed - either in the text or theindex.It is under "radiocarbon dating".There is no"carbon dating - see radiocarbon dating". I looked for"thermal radiation" and it wasn't there.It was under "heatradiation", again with no "see ...".In fact, there are no"see ..." in the text to point you to the right title. 2. The book claims that the material is givenspace according to its importance."Atomic energy" gets 6 lines(2 sentences).I flipped to a random page, and "black pepper"gets more than twice as many lines, and "blackberry" gets 3 times as many lines.

A little short of expecations
I'm one chapter away from finishing the classroom manual.I expected that the author would do an excellent job on the complicated topic of diesel engines, but fell short of my expectations.In all fairness, the author did an adequate job overall.He starts out with a bang in the second chapter explaining the different horsepower ratings such as HP, BHP, FHP and IHP.After that terrific start, the succeding chapters got a little less in-depth.I do like the fact that the subject matter is divided into two topics- theory and application.The classroom manual covers the theory and the shop manual covers the practical, "hands-on", side of being a diesel technician.Delmar does this with all of their Today's Technician series of books.If you are interested in a thorough approach with much better diagrams and pictures then "Diesel Technology" by Norman, Corinchock, and Scharff is the book to get.

Lost a star for typos and noncontinuity, otherwise great.
I bought and read this book(it's actually two books, the shop manual is spiral bound, the class text is glue bound) in anticipation of buying my first truck. I'm not a tech so take my review with a grain of salt. The theory and general information seem adequate. There are a lot of detailed descriptions of repairs that are probably best left to OEM specific instructions. The end of the book was the most pertinent for me. It describes diagnostic tools and signs of trouble like smoke. I would have prefered more detail on the more/most common failures/problems encountered in used engines and how to detect them, though there was a fair amount of that.Read more
