5-0 out of 5 stars What a bargain!
About a month ago, I bought the One Step at a Time series (3 books with the workbook) for AutoCAD 2007 in ebook format. The whole series cost me 30.24 - and I didn't have to wait (or pay) for shipping. Then I printed them all (in color) at work so I could reference them anytime I needed to.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good book/series at a good price!
I bought the AutoCAD 2007: One Step at a Time series (including 3D and Workbook) and am very please with the product.I only had about a week to get up to speed with AutoCAD (I studied it in the mid-90s but haven't seen it since), and these books were very easy to follow and left me with a better-than-functional understanding of the software.I amazed myself with my final 3d drawing!
5-0 out of 5 stars Five Stars for the Series and the Support
I've now been through both the beginning and 3D books of this series and am very happy with both. The approach is straightforward and easy to follow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Covers the basics of setup
Handy guide for thinking though testing procedures for RF devices.Gives an analytical walthough of a device.Covers a lot of the scenarios that often come up when checking out a device.Would have liked a few more details, but this book serves its purpose as a practical guide.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay for the first draft!
I think it has the makings of a good handbook. However, I think the author should have had it reviewed by his RF colleagues.Being no RF expert, I was able to pick out several obvious mistakes.A few gems:Pg. 64, "Velocity factor (v) of 0.80, which means that the wave propagates along the line at 8 - 10 the speed of light". Pg 284, Hot S22 Methods, Lists all the S parameter formulas but leaves out S22.5-0 out of 5 stars finebuss handbook for serious amateur radio operators

5-0 out of 5 stars History from newspapers
Buyers beware!!! This book is huge... Amazon should give its dimensions, but I am guessing more than a foot long and 3/4 foot wide.Great reading about history -- if you have strong arms and a sturdy table.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great motivator for any IT person out there
After buying the book I was a little scaptic about this book keeping me intrested but rather than being too technical and 'professional' the book is more like a drama with alot of winners and losers. It was a greatinspiring experience-reading stories like the ones about bill gates, stevejobs and his body 'woz'.The book floats along the evolution of the computerindustry, the IBM empire, the Microsoft phenomenen throght the stories of thepeople who made it and those who couldn't stay in the top.A must read forevery person who has some computer background who wants to know how it allstarted and also for the not-yet computer fan who just wants a good read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tales Well-Told
These really are "stories" rather than commentaries. A born storyteller, Young presents what he calls "inspiring tales of the entrepreneurs and inventors who revolutionized modern business." They include the "pioneersand pirates" who developed the prototype for the first commercial computersas well as Thomas J. Watson, Jr., William Shockley, Jack Kilby, JayForrester, Edwin De Castro, Douglas Engelbart, Bob Noyce, Andy Grove, &Gordon Moore, Edward Roberts, Steve Jobs & Steve Wozniak, Don Estridge,Lew Eggbrecht, Bill Gates & Paul Allen, Tom Carter, Bill McGowan, CraigMcCaw, Bob Taylor, Steve Case, and Marc Andreesen.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn How to Manage Maintenance from a Real Pro
Maintenance is one of the, if not the, most difficult functions to manage and control in industry. Left alone, maintenance tends toward chaos: fighting fires, too busy for PM, repeat failures, with senior management often unappreciative and non-supportive. Nevertheless, without good maintenance, industry can't run. How does one move from chaos to Control?Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid introduction to food science, rough around the edges
This book provides a solid introduction to the science of food.It describes what food is made of at the chemical level, and how food reacts to various cooking processes. The information presented in this book is essential to understanding how food substances behave in the kitchen.3-0 out of 5 stars This isn't the 70's anymore!
I had to get this book for my foods class at school and even though this is a new edition, the pictures are from the 1970's!! The publisher's and authors need to take a look at their datebooks because the rest of theworld is heading into the 21st century! With all the new technology outthere, the book should contain up to date pictures of foods and mealpresentations. I'm very disappointed in this books presentation of food. The only reason I give the book 3 stars is because the information isuseful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars IF Andy Stanford writes it buy it.
I am completely impressed with Stanford's work.Every book I have read written by him is excellent. If you want to learn about low light tactics, this book covers it all, and you must learn about low light tactics if you are serious about self-defense.Easy to read and understand. Well written. Buy this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good basics on low-light operations
As this book is written by Andy Stanford, I had high expectations towards it. Partially the book was on par with my expectations, but partially I was a little bit disappointed with it. I was pleased with the way Stanford presents the issues he handles in the book, but disappointed with the fact that the book didnt dig deep enough on many issues.4-0 out of 5 stars Never fear the night
Some names stand out and speak for themselves, Gunsite, Gerber, Colt Andy Stanford, etc. Mr Stanford has done it again. Fight at Night is one of the best texts written on the subject of night fighting. It's very detailed and comprehensive. Not only are the topics of Firearms covered, but also how to use knives, flashlights, and your body as a weapon in the dark.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars drawing and designing with confidence: a step-by-step guide
Although I've been drawing and illustrating for a living for quite some time now, this book served to refresh my memory on things that I have forgotten and teach me some new and quick short cuts. I highly recommend this book for beginners and polished illustrators.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
Great book on different drawing techniques and the basics of perspective drawing as well as more advanced composition samples. The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow and create immediate results. In my opinion a good source for students to either acquire some sketching-skills or fresh up on the basics. Another great feature are the many sample-drawings of different drawing styles. The only draw-back is that the drawings are being too much reduced from their original size. But if you take the time to scan the ones you are particulary interested in and get them back to a decent size, you will get a lot out of this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars It's OK but only great if you take his course
Mike Lin's graphic course filled a big hole in my professional development. If you're willing to buy into his methods I can't recommend it highly enough. Both his books are good intros to his drawing method but they can only go so far by themselves.

3-0 out of 5 stars Typical McGraw-Hill Handbook
Like most other McGaw-Hill handbooks this is a collection of articles, which for the most part, have been written by equipment manufacturers. The information is often thin and superfical. Some areas of the book are sosimplistic they're laughable. For example, among the "Rules ofThumb" there is this enlightening suggestion: " Understand theprocess before designing a control system for that process". Alsothere is this jem " Design the control system before implementing thecontrol system".Still, the book isn't all bad. There is some goodinformation here but it isn't consistent. I doubt there is enough usefulinformation to justify the cost of this very expensive book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good book for industrial automatic control
A good book for who works in the area of industrial automation and for students who want a complete source of information about that matter. Among its special features, I found a good qualitative explanation for theon/off, P, PI, PD and PID modes of control, showing the physical processthat occurs behind each one. It also develops a good theory about the workprinciples of some measure instruments and sensors. However, although thisbook covers almost everything in industrial automatic control, it is verybrief in commenting some aspects to which more attention should be given.Perhaps the new edition is better than this one. In a few words, if want tohave the practical sense of automation and control, this is a good one. Butif you want a precise description for every phenomena, look for a bookturned to Control Theory. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book for Professionals and Advanced Students
This is the most comprehensive book on reactor design on the market.Like Nauman's previous book on reactor design, it assumes a smart reader. It is thus more suitable for working engineers or graduate students rather than the typical undergraduate, but a good instructor could pull it off and learn a lot in the process.Numerical techniques are stressed to allow rigorous design calculations for complex situations.I particularly like the chapters on laminar flow reactors and polymerizations where the book really has no competition.... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars This book is helpful for documentation lifecycles
Another classic in need of updating, the 1994 book Managing Your Documentation Projects still provides good information about the basics of managing a technical writing project. It takes you from defining the project to completion, and on into the normally neglected phases of evaluation, and maintenance. This is a great tool for a writer who wants to formalize and add supporting structure to what he already does by instinct, for an experienced writer who is used to working alone and discovers he has no idea how to manage a team, or for anyone who wants to understand the mechanics of a well run team.

2-0 out of 5 stars This would have been an excellent 200-page book!
Joann T. Hackos's book offers some interesting concepts, such as information plan, project plan, and content specifications, to name a few. Her concepts are well hidden under mountains of text that the unfortunate reader has a difficult time finding or understanding her intentions. Her book is information technology-centered, and technical communication has so much to offer other industries, such as oil and gas, healthcare, and financial, regarding project and documentation management. This book is not a good choice for college-level courses.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Gospel
Joanne Hackos is widely acknowledged as a leading authority on technical publications management, largely because (a) she has some good things to say and (b) her _Managing Your Documentation Projects_ is one of the few books on the topic. This book offers some valuable insights about basic project management, but tries to shoehorn publications project management into a particular software development methodology -- Carnegie-Mellon's Capabilities & Maturity Model. Hackos acknowledges her debt to CMM and warns that trying to implement the model described in this book is tough sledding if the development organization is not using CMM.Read more
