useless book
I got this book from my trade school as our textbook, thought it was ok at frist, but when i went into my field i found this book to be totally useless,it's clear to me that the authur of this book has never worked in the heating field, he spends most of the time talking about old outdated systems,good luck trying to find anything of value in this book. ... ISSEP CBK
This book is a must have book for preparation and study for the ISSEP exam as of October 23, 2005. This book also has good study questions for each chapter at the end of the book to guide you in testing your knowledge per chapter. The book also goes into additional details in some areas to provide more information to the security pactitioner. The author provides an e-mail address for errata in the book.

Good ideas, but hard to understand.
This book had great ideas for some great displays, but be prepared to spend some time deciphering it. It's so involved that I decided to wait and attempt something before next Halloween.

Good Animatronics knowledge
This book was a great guidline for someone like myself who wants to utilize electrical engineering skills and gain knowledge of mechanical engineering principles. I designed a Animatronic coffin with an AC Motor linked with levers to open and close the lid while lifting the prop in snych with the coffin lid. Also added internal lighting controlled by Micro switches to turn on/off lights.
Best (and only) book for building Haunted House animations
This is a great book.If you like to build haunted houses, and want to add some moving and jumping animatronics to your haunt, you need this book.Commercial, finished animatronics cost thousands of dollars.You can build them yourself, do a higher-quality job, save a ton of money, and have a lot of fun doing it, using this book.

Helpful advancedtechnical overview
I used to sell solar electric PV systems as an ARCO Solar dealer back in the early 1980's. At the time no one could pronounce the name of the technology, and most thought is was angel dust. Solar powered calculators were just coming in, same with watches. Solar powered emergencyy freeway phones were 15 years away, unheard of at the time.

An eye-opening book that changed my approach for the better
The approach outlined in this book has completely changed the way I tackle developing on-line documents.I have extensive experience in a technique called Information Mapping that is an analysis and document design methodology for paper documents.In many ways the authors' methods are similar to Information Mapping - at least at a macro level. After reading this book I've gained an appreciation for the vast differences between paper and on-line documentation.My "paper-based" thinking before this book resulted in a waste of the underlying capabilities of an on-line document.The authors show how to use technology to vastly improve your reader's efficiency and overall experience when seeking and reading the information you create.If you are used to writing for paper-based publications, or have deveopled on-line pages using nothing but intuition and judegement, this book will completely change your way of thinking.

A must for online Help authors
This is an excellent book for helping technical authors accustomed to writing printed documentation in understanding how and why the structure should be different for online readers. Too often authors simply move the information online without any clear understanding of the context in which the reader is using it. I recommend this book to anyone developing software Help files or planning single sourcing documentation.

Serves a Purpose
I am new to the estimating and construction management world and I find this little dictionary incredibly helpful.I use it often when reading prints and listening in on meetings.When words come up that I don't know I look 'em up and I've yet to come across one I couldn't find in this book.Maybe not so good for veterans of construction but perfect for me.

Best construction dictionary
This is one of the best construction dictionaries on the market.It has everything from the basics for newcomers (sometimes office staff who don't know the business real well) and correct spellings for those who have been around the business for a long time. The CD-ROM search capability is a real time saver too. Huge number of construction terms covered.It has helped my business sound as good on paper as we look on the job.

Too Basic, But Easy To Read
I work in the construction industry as a secretary and I bought the Construction Dictionary for my desk so I could look up some of the more obscure words when I type letters and proposals.This dicitionary isreally easy to read but the words are too basic.It would be a gooddictionary for someone new to the business but if you need a more diverseset of words this is not the dictionary for you.It's priced right for thebeginner. ... Poor Explanations, Nothing You Can't Get Elsewhere
I bought this book in 2000 because I was going back into consulting and needed to augment my quick-reference books. Contractors are paid by the hour! This book helped me solved exactly one problem. I did not write an editorial then because I hoped I would find out that I was wrong in my initial assessment. Everything else I could solve using various chemical engineering PE preparation material. This is stuff I either collected and condensed or got from other text. If you want a better choice refer to Randall Robinson's "Chemical Engineering Reference Manual." My main complaint about this book, besides that it digs deeper ruts in a well-worn trail is that the explanations are missing steps. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

The Redlich-Kwong equation given specific for pressure given in this text is in error.It should be:

Text book study
This book is laid out like a text book course of study, which I like, however one important thing to note is that there is no answer key for the tests.The answer key is a seperate book and I have been unable to locate it.Fortunately I work for a General Contractor and have been able to have my co-workers check my answers for accuracy.But as far as being a good source for systematic learning, this book definitely is. ... Disappointing
One needs to bring some critical thinking to work as to what one buys and reads.I fully agree with reader Guido.Images are blurred, of extremely poor quality and not truly informative.There is only a small number of examples offered in the book (as if this were an attempt to bring about a touch of reality to a text that would otherwise be even dryer and engineering-oriented).The limited range of materials and processes is not representative of the industrial design practice.Besides, conceptual categories which were employed to organize the book seemed to me quite confusing and not logically classified.The author does show knowledge of the subject.However, his approach is not particularly didactical and complete--and therefore not as useful as it could be.I don't feel this is the right text and the right form for industrial designers.The book, in my opinion, does not live up to the promise of its title and price.

Terrible images: is this a book or a newspaper?! Good as a quick reference
I disagree with the reviewer from TX.The book is written using terminology that any industrial designer should be familiar with.It would make a good textbook for design students because it gives an overview of many materials & processes.It also has charts and diagrams that make the information easy to digest.My criticisms would be that it could use more examples of final products and detailed descriptions of the materials & processes used, ie case studies.For the price, it is a thin book and could easily include a case study section.I would also like more elaboration in the "charateristics, uses and properties" sections for each material with common pitfalls to avoid. ...
