5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Choice
I am a Vocational Professor at Amarillo College in the Computer Assisted Design department.I have used different editions of this text for years to teach the MicroStation courses in our department. He covers basics thoroughly and provides excellent exercises using practical working drawings. My advanced course includes customization and 3D topics, all of which are included in this text.I recommend it highly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Harnessing MicroStation/J(tm)
Harnessing MicroStation/J is an adequate learning tool for beginners, but suffers from a lack of advanced topics.Several high level features are not even mentioned, ie. b-spline curves and surfaces and plot tables.Theindex is very weak. The few entries that are there, use obscure programnames for features, instead of common subject names.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Help
The typing program includes simple but progressive lessons that can be accomplished at your own pace giving you freedom to try and try again. It was easy to load to our computer and find our way around the program. The games included were a nice break from the plain lessons but kids used to video games might be disappointed with the graphics. The music included with the practice lessons is relaxing and not monotonous. My husband uses it and my teenager both hoping toincrease their speed and accuracy (and for a little down time in front of the computer screen).Overall a helpful product.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book fetches results
My typing speed and accuracy have improved tremendously since I've read this book. On 3 minutes passage typing, my accuaracy jumped from 88% to 100% and my speed perked up from 20WPM to 360WPM.

5-0 out of 5 stars By far the easiest typing course
I'm not usually one to write reviews, but I'm so impressed with this course I think it's a shame no-one has reviewed it yet. In fact, we've hardly used the book as the CD ROM does it all for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars German through and through
Craftsmanship is to the Germans what style is to the French, tradition is to the British, or independence is to the Americans, and it shows in these books: the drawings, coated paper, printing, and so on are all head and shoulders above the competition. The basic format for all the books is the same--history, followed by science and engineering, followed by examples. In this book, the technical section emphasizes structural matters, with a large chapter on precast construction. There's nothing on reinforcement requirements because they're covered in building codes. Shell structures are discussed, and another chapter covers surface finishes. The translation to English is OK but lacks the nuances that make for pleasant reading.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Book review...a lesson in futility
The author of this book apparantly does not know the value of proof reading. So many mistakes and items that either are misdirected, or do not exist in the text altogether. Never a more frustrating experience than reading and trying to decipher this poorly written book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Errors and incomplete examples, expect some frustration
I received this book on Friday and have spent some time with it over the weekend. In that short time I've found errors in formulas and examples that fell short. For example, there was a section that talked about how voltage drop is affected by the length of a conductor and even gave a formula to calculate it, but in the example following the definition, it used another formula that didn't factor in conductor length, without explaining why the length-dependent formula was not used. Another example: A calculation question on one of the review questions had an answer that didn't match the formula used to obtain it. After hunting around, I found the correct formula, which did result in the answer listed. Ultimately, I think this book will prove useful, but I would say to anyone considering using this book that they shouldn't be surprised if they find calculations that don't make sense and wind up consulting other books to make sure they completely understand how things are calculated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical
Working your way through the more theoretical books on explosives by, say, Cooper or Zukas and Walters, is fine, but you will be left wanting for a simple, practical guy's knowledge of explosives technolgoy.Cooper's Intro book is the book for you.You might even want to start with this book before going off to the more advanced books. If the math is lacking, the essence of the theory is fairly well captured by Cooper's exposition, and there are plenty of photographs, figures and tables to help you get the ideas.

3-0 out of 5 stars Its okay, but wouldn't have bought it if I didn't need it.
The book was required for a Junior level course I'm taking at alocal college and that is why I bought it.My personal opinion is that there were too many writers on this book.It is poorly organization and broke some of the basic rules in writing a reference book, such as referencing various studies without actually providing the citation for the study.

It would be more helpful to have the authors added more figures which arefor illustrating the lessons and for examples. Thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars If There Is One Book You'll Ever Need, This Is It!
I own several environmental engineer textbooks, many of which focuses on either environmental planning, engineering systems, case histories & legislations, water treatment, energy, or current trends. Few books like this 1400+ page monster of a handbook focuses on all aspects of this important field. In its preface it explains why having all aspects in one bounded body is vital to the engineer student; simply the field of environemental engineering utilizes knowledge and information from other-scientific, legal, and social-science fields to solve many problems that are encountered daily whiles working to create better systems, laws and solutions. This book has everything that you will need to know to work in the field. It promotes tried and true theories used by scientists before as well as sets up the beginner students with the challenges of creating new theories and working ideas to solve current and projected problems that face us today.

The Fabric Reference, along with the Fabric Glossary provides the best comprehensive reference of basic textiles that you can obtain anywhere in today's market. To make it a perfect reference set, you can purchase the Fabric Glossary Swatch Set directly from Ms. Humphries, which provides fabric samples to be taped into the Fabric Glossary while giving the history, manufacturing (weave, knit, lace, etc.) description and fabric content for each swatch allowing for a realistic study of fabrics. This Fabric Glossary can be continually added to as you find new fibers and fabrics - keeping an updated reference at your finger tips. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelente learning tool for Petroleum Production Systems
It is an excellent book to understand in detail the petroleum production systems for a person who has some background in the area. It is also helpful as a reference book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
The book is unpractical for the working engineer and the mathematics is simplified calculus which is not understandable to the average practicing engineer, but seems to be in favor of academic types. This is not a book for someone who wants to learn why production equipment works. The chapter on multiphase flow is its only saving grace, but any cheap paper on the subject will say as much. I would recomened the OGCI books on Production Technology. Way cheaper...way better...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Introductory Book on Welding
I found this to be the best introductory book on welding that I have seen.Quite of few books give you spotty pieces of information and tell you to "go do it."Others are pricy text books designed for a full school course on welding. This is a straight comprehensive introduction to welding. It starts you off with safety, materials needed to start work and the advantages and disadvantages of each major type of welding.Richard Finch has a smooth writing style and includes good suggestions and advice, including common amature mistakes to avoid.I would have given it 5 stars, but it was last revised in 1997 and some information about equipment is getting dated. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book.
I like this book a lot.Good information. One sentence annoys me though. On page 7 the author states, "Pure oxygen is flammable."This is a false statement. It made me wonder if he ever used an oxyacetylene outfit when I first read it.Who hasn't accidentally tried to light the oxygen first instead of the acetylene and found that nothing happens?Higher concentrations of oxygen increase the rate of oxidation/combustion but oxygen isn't a fuel, i.e., it isn't flammable. But pure oxygen makes things that are flammable more dangerous.
5-0 out of 5 stars Super!Carry it in your toolbox for Oxy Welding
If you can afford only one book on Oxy Welding get this one, no make that two so you can have one in you toolbox and one to replace it when the one in your toolbox "grows legs" and walks off. This is "thee" book for the practical weldor and fits nicely into your toolbox.Read it, use it, take it with you where ever you go to work. The author is writing to you as your coworker not as an instructor or engineer though he is still showing you how to do it correctly and SAFELY.

I'm not sure about all of the reviews but I didn't get that much from this book.

I have been a builder for over thirty years. During that time we learned how to master the quality aspects, scheduling, accounting, different volume levels and all the other things that can be thrown at a home builder. I have been able to provide a decent living for myself and a number of employees, however if I had known what I learned from this book and his newsletters I would be retired in Tahiti by now. Learning how to build is the easy part, learning how to make money is the hard part.

Excellent information on mark-up & profit! Not your average "how to" book. It will generate many different approaches that can be adapted to all types of contractors.
