Interesting potential
A fascinating book about a topic that not too many years ago was regarded akin to snake oil. At one point, all that was known about this subject was anecdotal. And since events like earthquakes occur irregularly, it was hard for researchers to systematically study this phenomenon. Read more

Excellent writing, well researched, very relevant
Lutz Kleveman's book "The New Great Game" explores the exciting world of money, oil, war, and political intrigue that is modern Central Asia. A good book
Several chapters are not easy to read because of the material, also is not comprehensive about kriging; but despite that, first theoretical treatment of kriging with estimated cov.
Michael Stein got his Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University under the direction of Paul Switzer.I also studied at Stanford years earlier and also learned about kriging from Switzer.Kriging is a very popular technique for interpolation of spatial data between measurement points.It is an optimal linear technique when the spatial covariance structure is known.It has many practical applications to pollution data, geological data etc.Stein develops the theory as far as he can for the case when the covariance structure is unknown and must be estimated based on the measurement data.Read more

Update for middle age professionals
This book is a chance to update new advances, technics, and methods in geophysics. I rather think this is focused for professionals (on Geology or Geophysics) who have been dealing with a specific area for some years and need to know about the state of the art on Geophysical methods. New developments in GPR, Gravimetry, Magnetometry, Seismic and Electrical exploration is a pretty good chance to take an updated overview on Geophysics.
A very pratical guide...
John thinks of every eventuality in the field, and especially recommends a very natty rubber mac - I can just see him in it! This book covers every geophysical field technique useful for four or less people (which does NOT include remote sensing, as the person above seems not to recognise). It is written in the same dry, and sometimes faintly sarcastic vein, that anyone who knows him will recognise.

This book covers almost all of the current geophysics topics. It gives a sometimes too brief description of the equipment. Outdated links-pretty much useless information you can find anywhere
The only reason this book is 20 pages long is because the material list sheets are repeated about 5-6 times.My pages had lines through all the pictures and text-looks like it was printed on a home PC printer at the lowest resolution.If you can find your own water swivel and can get a post hole auger and weld a frame-thats all you need.Do 30 minutes of Google reearch and save your money.
