We almost lost . . . a secret.
Granted the book is a bit sensational - then again I lived in Detroit at that time and you can bet I would have been hyper-ventilating had I known the China Syndrome was potentiating less than 60 miles away.
Worth Reading...
As someone that can see the steam towers of Fermi 2 from my driveway, I was very interested in this book.Although it is very outdated and quite biased, it did turn me on to some reactor accidents I hadn't heard of and gave me a little more history of the area I live in.The accident at Fermi 1 was actually pretty small and the plant still runs (actually visited it 5 years ago).A good place to start if you are interested in this kind of thing and the book sells pretty cheap so it is worth the small amount of money.

Very informative, if dated, book
Fuller deals very well with the complexities and the failures of the US's first commercial liqiud metal fast breeder reactor.In particular, he is very careful to contrast this advanced but inherently more dangerous design with the common light water reactors nearly everywhere else in the US and abroad.This book IS dated - post 3 Mile Island many reactors in the US had their entire controls systems updated to avoid operator errors and inefficiencies - but the failure of design and operation processes that occured (such as non-documented design changes that didn't make the "final" plans and eventually resulted in the accident!) are still with us today.A good book, and fairly even in treatment, despite a highly cautionary tone. ... Excellent and Most Comprehensive
The research involved in complex sciences and in particular the study of delicate signals which emanate from the edge of our galaxy are not something for the faint of heart to pursue.Collins does a remarkable job of accurately and objectively telling the story of how four decades of intense research unfolded in search of Gravitational Waves by more than a dozen qualified scientists. His perspective is rare as we often are not told about the heartache and miscalculations which inevitably punctuate the search for new knowledge.This book is valuable from the perspective that the reader is shown the effort, dedication and pain that many people endure in the name of science.this is astory that happens time and again but rarely is told with such glaring accuracy to this level of detail and objectivity.Best hundred dollars I have spent on a book in some time and it certainly has aided me in my research

Gripping account of a controversial field
This book covers two related stories, each fascinating in its own right. It is first of all the definitive account of the controversy surrounding Joe Weber's claimed detection of gravitational waves, told by someone who has met and interviewed all of the leading participants since the origins of the controversy in the 1970s. Weber was a remarkable character whose story is one of considerable pathos and Collins gives a sympathetic and incisive account of his career and its ramifications that no one else is qualified to give.
2nd half an interesting study of g. waves detection politics
Skip the first 400 pages, unless you're obsessed with Joe Weber.But read the second 400 for an interesting take on the politics and people involved in gravity wave detection.Also a decent presentation of the issues in gravity wave detection for non-physicists. ... Read more

Build the Bomb and Expect the End
The author deals with the presence of the Pantex plant in Amarillo, the only final assembly factory for nuclear weapons, warheads and bombs, in the US, and the attitudes of residents toward the plant.She analyzes in some detail the personal and group philosophies of war, peace, safety, and the future.
Compelling Story for Everyone
I first read this book in college in a theory of religion class.But don't be put off by that.This is the story of the people in Amarillo TX who build nuclear warheads.Most of the community are born-againChristians who are Rapturists -- they welcome the end of the world.Theirstory is contrasted with those people in the town and all over who areagainst nuclear war.It is an unbelievable sociological tale, and Mojtabaiwrites with compelling impartiality.She tells the whole story in a waythat reads like one of the best novels I have ever read.I recommend thisbook to anyone who is interested in human nature.It will blow you away. ... Right on target!
This guide completes its mission just as stated:"These are the subjects tested on the nuclear engineering PE exam, so working through the problems provides excellent exam preparation".The questions are very good and each subject area is covered in sufficient quantity and quality to "knock the rust off" as one prepares for the PE examination.The author recognized a need and addressed very well. Well, the questions that are given are reasonably good. The answers are OK although they generally don't give much detail. They cover a wide variety of topics, but 101 questions just gives a few in each area. Having gone through the Navy's nuclear power program, I would not have found this book a good supplement for studying the material. This is an OK book, but quite frankly, not worth the price. For the price I'd expect more like 1001 questions.I wouldn't pay alot for it, so try to find it used.Unfortunately, it may the best of its kind out there, as I have not seen any other problem-answer books for nuclear engineering. ...
