Poor presentation, but good content on gear theory
I have several books on gears. This is the only one that covers the howand why of gear design. Covers design load calculations, max rpm, and lifeprojections. The content has good depth, but the author presents theinformation as if he is having a discussion with gear experts instead ofindividuals with no background in gear theory. There are not enoughdiagrams for the subject matter to be readily followed. I used Mathcad todraw the involute curves described to fill in the holes. Fanciful wit and dark humor make this book a masterpiece.
Machinery and Mechanical Devices, isn't just a clip-art book. This sixty-page presentation of copyright free illustrations from the 1800's is a humorous personal expression of the wonderment and fear associated with functionally obscure mechanical devices. Unlike other clip-art books which present the material as individual objects separated by a lot of white space, this book is brought to much higher levels of interest. The way Rowe does this is by creating collages of illustrations on each page - not simply displaying them piece-by-piece. He even goes so far as to make up names for many of his concoctions, and adds other details such as twinkling stars and abstract patterns. Very good book
Great book for beginners. This book is essential material if you want to go in this field and learn about Die Design. I would definitely recommend it as a starter. Very good indeed!

For Beginner thru Intermediate User
