Overall Best Vibration Book Yet
As a practicing mechanical engineer and vibration analyst for over eight years, I have found Mr.Wowk's book the best yet.In particular, I have found this book to have a good index and sensibly ordered so information can be obtained quickly.Also, Mr.Wowk has smartly avoided extensive mathmatical discussions in his book and focused the content towards common problems and solutions.To improve his book I would recommend more case histories and more extensive content on topics such as electrical problems and bearing faults.Overall it is the best book of its type I have read yet.

About the books description from the author's wife
This description of Victor's book is not all correct. So, I decided to setthe record straight. From a little research, I found that an incorrect bookdescription was initially entered into a database and used by otherbook-sales companies as well. This textbook is basically about thetechnology of machinery vibration measurement and analysis. It touches ontopics such as balancing and alignment, but does not cover these subjectsin detail. Victor has written subsequent textbooks that cover balancing andalignment in detail. Amazon's description about this book is correct exceptfor the Synoposis which describes the textbook: Machinery Vibration:Balancing. I know Victor's textbooks intimately--since I word processedall three of them. Of course I highly recommend reading them. As an officemanager with no experience in plant maintenance, I gained a basicunderstanding in the field of vibration analysis.I have seen that whencompanies utilize this technology, production downtime is minimized, andcosts in maintaining rotating equipment and facilites are dramaticallyreduced--a must read for company decision makers, such as facility or plantmanagers, purchase agents, and executives. Good reference, but requires supplementary volumes
This is a good book to get started with machinery analysis, but be careful since it leaves many of the detailed analyses and remediation techniques to Mr. Wowk's other books. For example, the Amazon publisher's reviewerroneously indicates that this book contains the procedure for strobe-less4-trial balancing.It does NOT - that procedure is in Mr. Wowk's follow-onbook on Balancing.But as a SET of books Mr. Wowk's texts seem verythorough and up-to-date. ... Forget the CD Rom, buy the book
The book is great.The CD-Rom is an exercise in frustration.That you can only install it on a single computer is the first frustration.Then I tried to print a section for use in the shop.The pages that came out on the printer were not the pages that I requested (error between displayed and actual page numbers?).When I tried to print again, it said I had exceeded the printing limit.

Great for School and Work....
I have been out of school now for 5+ years...I had to share only 3 Machinery's Handbooks with my class of 30 at LTI... Then when I got out on the job market, I found that most places will not supply you with one, and you almost always need one in the engineering feald, weather it is Mechanical or Arch... (I have worked with both!).So this November (2003), I saved up for one, since I am always borrowing one at work from coworkers...So now I have the newest one in our office at Firestone Industrial Products Co.. Makes me feel good that I have the most up to date one...And now everone is barrowing from me! Plan Ahead
Everything mentioned in previous reviews is true. I would only add or suggest to buy the large print edition. You will likely keep this book a long long time and technical data, formulas, tables, etc. will not change, but your vision might. ... Read more

Good but Outdated
Good basic info about the internal combustion engine but could use a revision. There is alot of talk about the side valve, Briggs and Stratton type engines but very little discussion about overhead valves and NO information about overhead cam engines. Other than the need for a revision this is a pretty decent book.

Just a great book, an invaluable reference..A real must-have
I borrowed this book from a friend and held on to it for almost six months, and in that time I poured over it. It's EXTREMELY useful if you'redoing model building or playing with simulators and stuff. I use it withLEGOs and LEGO Mindstorm robotics kits. It taught me ALL SORTS of secretsabout motion and principles behind gears and gear-driven mechanisms. Mysteries revealed!
I recommend this book to anyone who ever wondered about the mysteries of an internal combustion engine.It is written for students and it covers the technical as well as practical aspects of small engines.It takes you through a blow-by-blow engine tear down and rebuild but is still an easy read.All aspects are covered from valve clearances (I know what that is now!) to rope pulls.Although this book was written for the person who plans on becoming a professional, I (a complete novice) was able to rebuild one engine and two carburetors for myself, and troubleshoot several other engines for friends who think I'm magic now. ... Solid Introduction to Power System Ops
I purchased this book because it was reccommended reading for NERC certification. To pass that exam, it is enough to spend 3-5 days studying the NERC operating manual. There were no questions from either this book or the others reccommended for the exam.
Great Little Primer for Load Dispatchers
Part of my job with a large midwestern power company is to train load dispatchers.I'm constantly on the lookout for good material.Power System Operations by Miller is one of the best textbooks I've found to train non-degreed system operators.I used the first edition myself when I was a new load dispatcher, and I found it to be a great self-study guide. Low Pressure Boilers
This is among the best written books on the topic I've come across.It is easily understood and has many diagrams and photos to help explain the principles.Chapters arrangement covers all the workings of boilers from the physical properties of steam to the boiler to safety issues for the boiler room.Many states recommend the book as a resource in preparing for boiler exams.

A good practical book
Pipeline transportation of liquids (even solids for that matter) has assumed unprecedented importance today owing to the increase in volumes of transport and distances along with inflation and escalating costs. An easy to refer document that helps pipeline transportation industry is desirable and the "Liquid Pipeline Hydraulics" book serves this purpose. Fluid mechanics for a field engineer is what Mr. Menon has provided in this book with examples to help field applications. I hope pipeline engineers, particularly in the field will find this book a valuable addition to their reference folder.

this sucks
I have been very disappointed with the Machinery's Handbook CD that I received about 4 weeks ago.Could never get it to open.I reinstalled it several times along with the agony of reinstalling adobe 7.0.8 along with the plug-in.Very frustrating and annoying that your program is wound up so tight for security, I guess, that you can't even open it up.I finally called your number for technical help and the recorder was full and wouldn't accept another call.What does that tellyou????????????T talked to one of your customer reps. and he tried to blame it on adobe.I don't have any problems with abobe with any other programs that it opens.Yours it toooooooo secure for it's own good and a piece of junk.I followed his instructions by down-loading a plug-in from the Industrial Press home page.It still wouldn't work.It shuts down and goes right to the desktop when I try to open it.The CD is now long gone in the dumpster and I'm so mad, I don't even want a refund.

An Audel Classic!
I wondered where the great Audel brand had gone until I saw this book, probably one of the most known books of all the old Audel's I have in my collector's library. Anyone who does anything with his hands, whether at home in the garage or on the shop floor should buy this book.

I'm a shop foreman and I need to know A to Z about everything mechanical and how to fix it.
