Excellent reference and design tool
I purchased this book a couple of months ago thinking of it as an aditional reference book. It contains the practical approach that we use in the day to day construction process for oil and gas pipelines at Boscan Field in Venezuela. It's amazing how the authors reflects sharply and easily every step of the pipeline design and construction. The section dedicated to transient analysis is fully documented with a real word example and the parallel piping is covered within the teory discussed.Read more

I would look elsewhere
This book was a new choice from our professor who was teaching our mechanism design class. In my opinion, the three authors who wrote it each took a section and slapped their parts together. Totally different writing style as you go throught the book. In addition t is a small book and you constanlty are turning pages to makes references to figures which makes it hard to read with good flw. n addition a lot of the diagrams are unclear and dont necessarily say what they represent. Our professor ended up hating the book himself. A good reference maybe but not for the beginner.

Very bad
I'm a junior mechanical engineering student at a university. This is the text used for my kinematics and dynamics of machinery class. This book is very poorly written, and it's not user friendly. It is hard to follow the examples in this book. If someone already has knowledge on mechanism design, then this book may be used as a good reference. But for those just learning, this book is horrible.

Review of Capture Pumping Technology
In 1991 Kimo Welsh wrote the definitive work on capture pumping. In this new edition he has added several sections that are of particular note. One is on leak checking systems that use helium cryopumps, which poses some unique problems, (Sec. 1.20) and another is on the use of Meissner coils in the vacuum chamber (Sec. 5.5.4) where there is high conductance for water vapor to reach the condensing surface. There is also a new section on vacuum seals (Sec. 1.19) that provides useful information. Great buy for the beginning machinist.
I was given this book by the author, my high school teacher in 1969. This is an excellent text for the machinist, and home shop machinist. The first addition was written many years ago,and geared to the manual machinist. Even the cnc machinist needs the basics contained here. Mr Walker did a fine job writing this book, and preparing me for a lifetime of work as a professional, and home shop machinist. I recomend it for anyone striving to learn the trade as a profession, or a hobby.

This book is very good and when you ask yourself what is missing to make it complete encyclopaedia for the field, you see that you only need more tables and data for specific appilication. Solid practical information
"Machining Fundamentals" by John R. Walker is a quality production. What I mean by that is this hardcover book is printed on good paper stock, the text is very descriptive and it is filled with an appropriate number of illustrations and photographs. In addition, the coverage of various topics is scaled to provide information consistent with what a typical reader of a "Fundamentals" book needs. Yeah, I know, what does that mean? Only that lathe, milling, drilling, and grinding operations, including relatively elaborate setups, are covered extensively, while manufacturing automation received a well written single chapter. Great stuff
This is a well written good about an interesting, sensible formalism. I haven't tried using any of it in my line of work yet, but I'm pretty sure I will. Abstract State Machines (ASMs) are based on guarded, synchronously concurrent state transitions, with state effectively defined as a (finite) set of named, finite relations. The core of the formalism seems very simple and elegant and lends itself to clear, concise models at both high and low levels of abstraction. I believe it is more readily comprehended by practicioners than purely algebraic and / or functional approaches, being firmly rooted in the notion of state, operational abstract execution runs and state changes.

For factory and professional colleges
Very good as entry-level textbook! Not for the die hard spectrum annalist though... It should be considered essential for crash courses in vibrations and spectrum analysis.

just OK
This book was just a representative sample of the tools that Stanley made.I was looking for a more comprehensive list and descriptive book.The information in the book could have been found on the internet.

Stanley Tools book not really a genuine price guide.
For a book that claims to be a price guide, it is a rather dissapointing publication. The book consists entirely of reprinted Stanley catalogs from 1909 and 1926. The "price guide" to current values merely consists of a loose page inserted into the book. The loose, 2002-2003 current price guide page that I received was not even cut square! The prices quoted are questionable at best (a stanley #212 in "good" condition for $700!??. I'll take half a dozen, thanks.), with no genuine attempt to clarify price variation as a function of tool type or condition. In the introdcuction the editor so rightly points out that "We do not claim to be experts in the tool collecting field (and the) seperate price guide is only the opinion of the editor."
