Excellent Resource
Excellent resource for MEP, plumbing and piping engineers. Provides thorough descriptions of pressure losses, treatments, correct valve uses and lots more. This book, when coupled with a CAD pipe library (such as Hercule Design's ANSI one), has all a designer needs. The inclusion of metric formulae is also most welcome.

This is one of the finest books about facilities systems I have everfound.It's rather banal title is misleading, because this book coversevery aspect of the very complicated piping systems that serveinstitutional, industrial and even residential buildings.To give you anexample, the chapter on compressed gas systems explains the workingmechanisms of 10 types of compressor motors, and then goes on to explainsilencers, aftercoolers, filters (and how to select filters) air dryers(with explanations and diagrams of the verious types), lubricators, aircompressor drives, pressure regulation, cooling water, hose and fittings. A must textbook on power electronics
This should be a must textbook for any engineering student in power electronics.It is easy to read and explains the fundamentals of devices used in power electronics and their applications.Once the topics from this book are understood, future, more complex studies will be easy.After reading this book I got a through understanding of electronic components used in power electronics.

Needs to be corrected
The poins touched by this book are good, however, I bought this book due to I use on class. Since 2nd. edition I found a lot of errors on the result pages as well some unclear steps on the text. I wrote to the author and he just say: "sent me the errors to correct them"...should I be co-author of this book or what??

Fun book, but not necessary
This is a great book to have if you're just getting into the hobby, but I have to admit that the BYOAC web guide and forum is such a great resource that it almost renders this book irrelevant. (And that's only one site: there are several other wonderful web resources.)

Wish I had read the reviews about the errors before buying.
Ok for review of power systems, However many typo's or errors.If I was Mr Syed A. Nasar I would be embarrased to have my name on this book. In the first chapter alone there are more than 10 errors. If anyone knows where to find the McGraw Hill errata page for this manual please post the URL, it will be a great service.If I find it I'll repost.

Full Revision Needed
In view of the fact that "Ideal for self-study!" is one of the Schaum's milestone assertions, one could expect that these kinds of books are fully revised before being published. Unfortunately, it seems they are not. Nasar's book sounds interesting, but it has too many errors. This is of no help for those who want to prepare a subject by their own. I recommend not to buy this 1990 edition.

I find this book clear and easy to read on machiningtopics. The photographs and illustrations fit well with the text. Generally a worthwhile beginners tointermediate book for pre apprentice to 3rd year. However in future editions I would like to see ISO metric information on topics such as threads and tapers along with limits and fits. Incomplete Book
The book is incomplete the cd-rom that should be part of the book not come. No simulation code is written in the book. All of the examples refer to the cd-rom that doesn't accompany the book, in spite of being suitable that it is part of the same. I sent messages for the author and for the publisher requesting the cd-rom, but I never received answer. If somebody has the codes, favor to send me because I have the need to test them. Don't buy that book, because it is expensive and incomplete.

Serious challenger to the best book on my shelf
Learning for the first time how an electrical machine works is newer easy, but how hard it is, depends a lot on the form of teaching. Professor Dr. Chi-Mun Ong has done an exelent work on how firstly to model the basic electrical machines (DC-motor, induction motor and synchronous motor) and secondly how to model the motors in a dynamic system. He describes the method of dq0-transformation of currents, voltages etc. in a nice understandable way and uses one of the best tools for constructing and solving coupled dynamic systems. The tool is ofcourse Matlab/simulink. Matlab/simulink is needed to be able to run the examples from the CDROM, but is not needed to understand the text.Read more

The book attracted my interest for its unique assortment of contents in power electronics, and modern concepts of motor start and speed controls. It covers various principles and applications of AC-DC-AC conversion and AC-AC conversion possible to use for the motor controls with adequate mathematical, graphical and text contents, e.g. rarely seen families of curves/characteristics pertaining to motors. The AC-AC conversion is evolving and has a good chance for the wider application in the future since its hardware is lighter with potentially fewer overall switching devices; therefore, it is attractive to ship, aircraft, etc. applications.
