good luck...
either this class or this book completely changed my mind about statics.The concepts are fairly easy to follow, that is until you get to the problems which are too difficult. I had a tutor for 4 hrs a week, just to get through the impossible problems and try to make sense of the actual problems i would face in exams. get another book to help you out... or brave the impossible

frustrating without a solutions manual
I agree with the earlier comments regarding the necessity to have to dig through the book to find the answers and rarely coming up with them. The examples are way too simplified to help with the homework unless you have a friend or relative or teacher who can explain the steps (I was not so lucky). This book is more frustrating than challenging and its only saving grace would be a student solutions manual. If forced to use this book, I would take a vector algebra course and make sure you got an A in physics first.

Not for self studying
Although the basics of statics is explained in each chapter, this doesn't help answer the more complicated section and review questions in each chapter. The examples were too simple and very few were given. I found myself refering back to my calculus textbook to get a more in depth explaination of the topics. And even though every other question had an answer in the back of the book (which is typical of most textbooks), that didn't help with the actual step by step solution of the question. You're left on your own to dig through the book to piece together a solution for each problem. A student solutions manual would be helpful. I would not recommend this book if you plan on using it in a self taught enviroment. ... Read more

The Very Best Reference - From an Industrial Practitioner of Process Measurement & Control

InstrumentEngineers Handbook Vol1
Excellent book. I second Mr. Hills comments, although I have recently purchased the books based upon comments Mr.Liptak has made in the control mailing list. It is a very good investment. The book is easy to read/understand, covers the full spectrum of instrumentation,give relative costs and companies manufacturing the items. It is a good first book to turn to, and will save me much research time. I wish I would have known about it earlier.

Great text and reference
Clearly written more for chemical engineers, as a physicist I have still found myself going back many times over to the 1st. ed., and now to the improved 2nd. ed..The book contains an ample collection of tables of thermal properties for many materials.The theoretical coverage of conduction, convection and radiation is excellent, and the example problems have a practical nature to them.

The Truth
The honest truth is that if you want a book telling you how to master and how to apply mastering to your work...THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR YOU. YOU'RE BETTER OFF GETTING THE BOOK BY KATZ!!! For beginners that don't have a clue where to start this book is for you. Throughout the book Bobby O explains the entire mastering from how it's done to the equipment used, how the equipment works and precautionary measures to take before mastering your work. I see why people got pissed off with this book because they wanted to know how to master their project...but instead bobby o. tells you the theory behind mastering for example, how various equipment work, mastering for different media as well as what to buy what the equipment does and the effects they have on the mix. I would recommend this book to anyone that is hesitant about mastering or doesn't have a clue about it. This book will inform you of the process from how it's done to the equipment used and so on...so that in the end you can make your decision on whether or not you want to master your own projects. Awesome book.

Excellent book
There is one thing I must say here in defense of this book. Most people who have not dedicated there mind to learning the real craft of mastering may find this book boring. There are no shortcuts. This book explains every single process involved in the so called "black art" of mastering, and in great detail (with the masters). What more could you want? The techniques are there and they are plainly obvious. If you are not familiar with mastering terms and technical jargon then yes, it may be over your head. If you don't understand fundamental pitches and harmonic frequencies, then you may not understand the section on EQ. I could go on but the point is this: Save your Money for a microphone cable!!!

A very EN"LIGHT"ENING book!
Any spatial experience is intimately connected with the experience of light. The author has very articulately described this phenomena in architecture, using four major themes - where light helps with a physiological EXPERIENCE, gives a building FORM, defines and enhances SPACE, and thus gives it MEANING. Top Flight Calder
The book gives you the tech you need, in terms you can understand.Calder is very impressive in his ability to impart knowledge to the layman.Don't however, assume this is just fluff overview, because it truly is the down and dirty of how it works and how to maintain it.

A Cruiser's Engine Atlas
This book provides the reader with a broad overview of most of the basic problems that can occur and offers simple solutions.I have recommended/loaned my copy of this book to several Diesel sailboat owners.The all remarked on how simple their repair was according to the book and how it save them $$.
Know Your Diesel
My copies of this book has grease stained fingerprints throughout. A lot of folks have told me they think this book is redundant, because much of the info is covered in Mr. Calder's Mechanical & Electrical Manual but this smaller book is easier to work with when working around your engine and the material is presented differently enough that the book is one I believe you should have if you live on a boat. ... A bit difficult to read, but very detailed.
This book goes from basics to advanced topics, and includes sections on both assembly and C programming. It contains everything I needed to know except how to control stepper motors. This is strange because in his companion book on the MC68HC12 16 bit microcontroller he gives a very good section on stepper motors.

I have virtually all of the major PIC books available and this
it's not an introduction in fact it's advanced Software & Hardware Interfacing
the name of this book is not matching with it's contents unfortunatley i found it very complecated and confusing and very hard to understand,it seems to me the only way to understand it is to read some other books related to the PIC microcontroller

Can't say anything under 'Totally Satisfied'
As soon as I received this book, I started realize the price is great compared to what the book is offering. We IE usually need to remember some things we learnt while we were studying, and instead of looking for it in many many books, you'll find it here. A friend of mine bought the Maynard's, and sincerely, Salvendy's is a lot better, better focused and clearly explained everything. Great buy!!

Steam Plant Operation
The best book on the market for training of power plant operators. Revisions keep up with the field. Have been using this book for training power plant opreators to optain their Massachusetts Stationary Engineers and Firemen's licenses, for over 15 years.

Good Book, but...
The book is good to see lots of pictures of steam plant equipment and a bit is given explaining what the equipment does, but I found the "Steam & Diesel Power Plant Operators Examinations" book muchmore powerful to pass fireman and engineers exams, including employmentinterviews!I suggest to buy both of these great books! ... Disservice to students and insult to experts
It's understandable and forgivable when the first or even second-edition of a technical book has some errors.However, when a book has reached its third edition, one should expect a relatively error-free and comprehensive reference. This book is an insult to the scientific method and to the tenets of decent technical writing. Considering only the part of this text that would be covered in a first course in continuum mechanics, even a cursory inspection reveals major theory errors as well as lazy typesetting, grammar, and editing issues that simply aren't acceptable for books in this price range. This is the best text that I have found for introducing continnuum mechanics and tensor notation to students. I have used this text in both Continuum Mechanics and Elasticity courses. Very clear explanations andexamples to make the student proficient in conntinuum mechanics. I wouldlove to see it expanded to include metric tensors and Christoffel symbols.

Mechanical and Electrical Systems in Buildings, 2nd
Very good book. Helps you understand the systems inside (and outside) of buildings in use everyday that most folks don't have a clue about. If you are interested in understanding how your building equipment functions this is a good book for you. Down to earth and well written. Recommend to property management personnel.

If ur stepping into the building services industry, this book will be a comprehensive packaged info for your reading pleasure. Tolerancing for Dummies
A very well writen book I had no problem understanding the text and the examples given for creating objects was very simple I picked up on creating tolerancs very easy I would recemond this book to anyone starting out doing tolerancing

Understand Geometric Tolerancing
Was reading the new rev. of the ARINC 600 Spec. Used a co-workers copy ofof Geo-Metrics III to figure out a tolerance note I wasn't sure of. Thisbook has the clearest descriptions of Geometric tolerancing with detailshowing how to read and apply notes I have ever seen. I immediately copiedthe title pape so I could get my own copy. By the way, I am anelectro-mechanical engineer.
