Materials fatigue review : the reference
This book allows to have a very good vision of the fatigue mechanisms of materials and the way to model them.
Comprehensive overview
The topical (chapter) layout is extremely coherent, as well, the visual effect is appealing.Engineering students hoping to do future research in fatigue of materials will find the book to be a cursory introduction, although the non-specialist will find much of the overview of research activities overwhelming as an introduction.

Well written, balanced introduction to fracture mechanics
The 2nd edition of this book is well designed, written and illustrated and is not overly long.As a result it is very clear and easy to read and understand.The focus is on fracture mechanics fundamentals, including basic concepts, analysis, experiments and physical aspects of fracture.It would be a good text for a 1 semester course. However no exercises are given, so the instructor would need to develop these. Also notable is that the cost of this book is very reasonable in comparison toalternatives. Computational fracture mechanics and other modern topics such as cohesive zone modeling, crack tearing using critical CTOA, interface fracture and so on are not discussed.

Excellent, easy to read!
This is an excellent text suitable for all students in fracture mechanics.The authors are great teachers in the field.

Used it for 15 years as an aircraft structural engineer
It was 15 years a go that I got this book as a part of a lecture by Dr. Broek. Over the years I have come across many books on this subject. I have to admit that this book is one of the best introductory material written on DTA. There are other books with probably additional data, however, what separates this book fom the rest, is Broek's ability to write in a coherent and easy to follow format.Read more

A clearly written textbook helps gain insights!
Though not a giant one, Lawn's piercing thoughts into the essence of brittle fracture can be clearly read and transferred (especiaaly for those who have studied and indulged into fracture like me). From the beginning, Griffith's spirits are extracted from his classic papers and put as a corner stone through out the book. Unlike many other authors, the author apparently appreciates and must have digged deeply into Griffith's paper. The remaining chapters illustrate it in an enlightening way, i.e., the subjects are treated as concepts-faced, not a pile-ups of entangling "dislocations" (facts). At least for me, some concepts had firmly taken their roots in my mind after reading. Not the least, the references given guides one fracturing through the literature and aims at providing some classic papers in the field for further study. They really take effect! I am at least not missed in library.
