5-0 out of 5 stars 3d is worth all the money!!!!!!!!
Without taking much space here, I simply wanna say that the 3d in this book is worth all the money! I have used a few other books in the past, but the examples of 3d in this teach a lot new techniques of working. It taught me that AutoCAD is much more than just 2d drafting. I am extremely happy I bought this book :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended
This book is easy to learn AutoCAD. All the commands of AutoCAD are explained with lots of graphic and text. The flow of topics covering AutoCAD is in a good sequence. I use this book to teach students in my class. The exercises and examples are well stated and explained. Above all this, I have the liberty to contact the author for the technical support if I have any technical difficulties using AutoCAD because the Author provides free technical support. This book is recommended to all students willing to learn AutoCAD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful material for the drafting class
We adopted this text for drafting class in our school. All I want to say is that it is a wonderful book. The drafting examples and exercises in this book starting from Chapter 1 through Chapter 17 are simply wonderful, exactly what students need to get "hands on" experience on real drawings.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good device book for both process and design engineers
This book explains well about several MOSFET models for SPICE simulations with informative historical review. MOSFET model parameters is now essential for semiconductor chip design as a communication tool between process/device engineers and circuit designers. In this book, starting from compact description of MOSFET physics, several well-known models are described seperately. So beginners can read only what they need. In addition, reading throughout introduction and final comments of each chapters give us information on progress of MOSFET models. If possible, I want to have an additional chapter which compares several models from the viewpoints of physical modeling and robustness of circuit simulation. Anyway, I recommend this book both to process and design engineers as well as modeling engineers for effective development of future semiconductor chips. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I purchased this book hoping to get two things: a refresher on the Inventor program, and a quick reference while using the software. I found that this book was decent in giving me a refresher, but it wasn't very handy as a quick reference.
4-0 out of 5 stars easily use parameters
Inventor 9 is Autodesk's challenge to more advanced modelling packages like ProE and Ideas. Cheng reveals that Inventor 9 offers many of the features seen in those more expensive alternatives. You can use this book and its CD to cheaply learn parametric modelling. This is just a fancy way of saying that you can parametrise various dimensions of parts in your object. In doing so, you can gain greater flexibility in easily varying these values, possibly to optimise the design of a composite object using those parts.
4-0 out of 5 stars Where the heck is the professional stuff...
Yes I fully support J. Heddinger writing in his review: "...now i need the advanced instructions...what about it cheng ?". It's the same story with each release: you can get an "ntroduction to..." or "Basics of..."! I think lot of typical users did not need an introduction to each release, what we need, in contrary, is a good "...release xx for professionals". Deep lay the flavours... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Obscure examples cloud picture
I had no experience in indexing and so did learn a lot from this book. However, for the most part I found it confusing. I was especially disappointed that he used unfamiliar topics for his examples, making it impossible to relate them to the point he was trying to make or to my own work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Concise Indexing Reference
I ordered the book because I needed a reference for developing an index for online help. When I received the book, I was astonished at the size. I was expecting a hefy book. After taking a look, I discovered that it is so well-written that there is absolutely nothing unnecessary in it. It makes good use of headings and provides examples. Also, I liked the sections that helped the writer focus on how to anticipate what questions the user might have.

1-0 out of 5 stars A very disappointing book
Sorry dear readers, but this book is poorly written, shallow in its treatment of the subject, and often factually inaccurate.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars AutoCAD 2002 Bible
This book is more geared towards mechanical drafting rather than architectural drafting. But nonetheless it's a good book for referential purposes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Programmers beware
This books is better than the autodesk manual for showing you how to draw with AutoCAD and some of the drawing features. If you are looking for a book that explores how to customize AutoCAD using LISP, VBA or ObjectARX look elsewhere.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for intermediate/advanced AutoCAD users
This is a great book and has come in handy now that I know AutoCAD but it was a little too difficult for me to start with.My teacher showed me a much easier book "Exercise Workbook for Beginning AutoCAD 2002" by Shrock Publishing. You can review it on their website. It made learning AutoCAD very simple. Also, why are these books so expensive.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars autocad 2000 one step at a time advanced
So far so good. Realy well laid out. Just starting to explore it

4-0 out of 5 stars Great "step-by-step" book for beginers
I purchased this book to learn the basics of autocad map... a very similar program. The book is very easy to follow and detailed.Sykes does a great job of explaining all the autocad jargon and the step-by-step projects are perfect for becoming familiar with autocad tools.I haven't made it through the entire book yet, but I selectively read the chapters I needed to get me going within about 8hrs.Not too bad.Be sure to get the CD with the book as well as the reference card.I wished there would have been more info on how to layout the drawing for print and how to insert legends, scale, etc. but I suppose that is what the advanced book is for.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is truly a step by step approach. It starts with the fundamentals. The progression from basics to advanced is very orderly. I have used this book to learn AutoCAD 2000 and now I highly recommend it as a text or a reference.I reach for this book when I need information or help with a command or sequence of commands that I have forgotten. The examples and exercises develop real understanding. ... Read more

Amazon messed up the shipping address and Zip Code I never received the product.
1-0 out of 5 stars Over view of drafting.
For experienced steel detailer. This book is not useful. But for a beginner, you can expect to learn your job in overall scale. It tells a little bit of everything, There is NO details in symbolic, how to start the first line of drawing, what are need to be put in the drawing and shop detailed.

2-0 out of 5 stars President, North Bend Drafting

1-0 out of 5 stars This only thing this book is good for is to start a fire.
This book throughly sucks. The title should have been An Idiot's Guide to Surveying because only an idiot would buy it.I keep it handy in the bathroom in case I run out of toliet paper and need something to wipe my ass with. I would give it a five turd rating for that use.

3-0 out of 5 stars civil drafting technology
I purchased this book with the hopes that it would help me understand civil drafting. There is no answer section to check my work. So,,,I do not know if I am on the right track with my understanding.
2-0 out of 5 stars Dated, generic, and overpriced
When I read the word Drafting in the title I assumed this book would focus on civil drafting as it applies to modern (CAD) technology. Instead there are many references to manual drafting which few drafters use any more. A better title would leave the technology out of the title and substitute the word theory, thus letting the buyer know that this is a generic overview of civil drafting theory, not a book that a CAD operator will get much use out of. 4-0 out of 5 stars I have Paul Riley as a teacher
I just wanted to say that Paul Riley is an excellent teacher. I have him for a teacher at King Philip Regional High School. The book may have some errors, but it is easy and I have learned an extreme amount of information about the program, AutoCAD. I hope that you think carefully before looking at other books about AutoCAD because this book is most certainly worth the money. Have fun with AutoCAD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Paul Riley is my Teacher and he teaches a great course
Paul Riley is my Design Technology(AutoCAD) teacher. We use this book to learn the program and he does a great job with making the book easy to learn and not boring to read. Before I started this course i learned alittle about the program from my brother Jason who has a couple of his drawings in the AutoCAD 2004 book. Mr. Riley's book and himself have taught both of us alot about the program. I strongly suggest this book to all that want to learn and use AutoCAD.

3-0 out of 5 stars AutoCad 2000 is an adequate book for learning atuocad
I have personally used this book in a class that was taught by paul riley. Although there are errors in this book, it probably is because some of the actual drawings in the book came from the students at King Philip High School where he teaches. Riley knows his stuff. I actually know the person who drew the giant old house which is used as a challenge drawing. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A lot of material in a small space...
The wide variety of topics covered in this book (dbConnect, database design [including the interview process, normalization and referential integrity], a SQL primer, ER diagramming, ADO [with VBA], and even someVisual Lisp using COM! ) is dizzying if you don't have some background inthese. But the condensing job Scott has done is quite remarkable. Myfavorite chapter was "Designing AutoCAD/Database Applications".This was very well thought out and undogmatic in its approach. I wish ithad been about 50 pages longer. This is a book written for someone with thefollowing:-> Fair AutoCAD skills.-> Some relational DBbackground.-> Fair knowledge of VBA.My one criticism has to dowith the acceleration of the pace toward the end of the book when all theVisual Lisp stuff gets thrown in. I have written huge,engineering/documentation automation systems in Visual Lisp but I stilldon't have the knowledge of COM as it relates to VL. I think these bits ofcode will cause a lot of glassy eyes. If you are a beginner to thesetopics, try the following books: -> a SAMS or equivalent "TeachYourself VBA" type book.-> "Database Design for MereMortals" by Michael J. Hernandez (a very dogmatic but veryapproachable, EXCELLENT book).-> after learning VBA, an ADO book.Read more
