5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive, excellent introduction to FEM
I was advised to use "Concepts and Applications of Finite Element Analysis, 4th Edition" by Robert D. Cook, David S. Malkus, Michael E. Plesha, Robert J. Witt as my text and reference during my graduate course in FEM. However, using the book left me with millions of unanswered questions-some very fundamental in nature. If you are a student who wants to understand the physical interpretations of the principles of the Finite Element Method beyond the mere mathematical manipulations, this book is for you. This is the most comprehensive text book on this subject. It is also very well written and can be assimilated with some effort. I can't recommend this book enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars a very good book
I learnt FE from this book. It is clear, coincise, full of well-worked examples. It covers almost all of the aspectes of FE programming. The book contains two educational codes, thought both are FORTRAN77 code, one can easily understand what's going on, so as to rewrite it in C or, say, FORTRAN90.4-0 out of 5 stars It is one of my best list.
Just completing his second and third chapter in FE formulation, you cannot deny Dr.Reddy's ingenius in FE. His solid background in Variational Calculus will enlight you the real nature of Finite Element approximation and bring you understand how can fomulate FE statement from BVP. Don't be bored in his mathematical written styles, because you could not understand FE in other ways.Absolutely, this book is one in my best list of FE textbook. His enlightment could not be found in a plenty of FE textbooks sold in your bookstore. Just read it!!! You may think like me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent GD&T education
This text/workbook provides excellent training on the basics of GD&T.The book is easy to read and uses extensive examples. The content makes the ASME standard understandable. The chapters are organized in a logical sequence. The first two chapters provide a very important overview of dimensioning, tolerancing, and an introduction to GD&T symbology. This helps lead you into learning GD&T concepts gradually and solidly as basic elements build toward more complex technology. The book provides a review test after each chapter and a comprehensive final test covering all concepts. Each chapter also has projects for the drafting students and print reading exercises for the manufacturing students.Additional tests, and projects are found in the Instructor's Guide along with sample course syllabi. Use this book if you want a text that clearly and easily teaches you the GD&T basics.

2-0 out of 5 stars Overly hard reading for given subject matter.
This book is comprehensive in scope but lacks insightful explanations. The overview chapters at the beginning confuse rather than orient the reader. As someone who has done technical writing for a commercial software package I recognize this as the first draft which covers the material but has yet to be rewritten in a way that will best orient the new user. I expect more given the high prices of technical books. As a student I certainly disagree with what the instructors have to say about the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars GD&T text and reference
I am a college instructor, and have taught classes using this text. It is an excellent choice for use in a classroom setting. The chapters are laid out in a logical order so the student progresses through the concepts in a meaningful manner that leads to thorough understanding of the standard. The diagrams and examples are well designed and explained. The chapter exercises, tests, and drawing problems are useful to the instructor and educational for the students.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars What else did you expect?Telekinesis or ESP?
This book goes very well with the textbook. It's easy to follow and, though rudimentry, it does help one practice the functions of the program. Those just discovering Autocad will appreciate the program so much more by using these simple exercises.

1-0 out of 5 stars My $0.02
The book is way too basic. The exercises are often incorrect/misleading; although, in hindsight, it was a fun challenge to find the errors, but very frustrating at the time.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't use the exercises!!
While this book has some good qualities, the exercises are horrible!! Many dimensions are missing, making it impossible to try to do them with any accuracy. I would not recommend it. ... Read more

I was displeased with the description of the item in relation to the final product i recieved.

4-0 out of 5 stars An abridgement of the ninth edition
At less than $40 for a used copy, the Student Edition can't be beat, as it provides most of the essential information from the complete Graphic Standards. The information is organized along the lines of Masterspec with additional sections on Energy and Environmental Design and Historic Preservation. It is certainly enough to get you started. It is also important to have relevant code books. Ching's Building Codes Illustrated is a good place to start. It is nice to have so much building construction information consolidated into one book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars it is what it says it is...fundamental
This book is great in its written and graphic information about what is in a good set of drawings.I use it to teach construction documents for residential construction, but it also explains isometrics and perspectives. It includes well drawn examples my students can look at as well as specific instructions and examples of what should be included on each drawing. It covers arch, stuctural, and site drawings for both a residential and light commercial.I use it for a AutoCad drafting class because it works so well as a guide for either hand or computer drafting.it explains the Drawing Conventions for line types, material harthes and detail cuts.it has isometric examples to show how sections are cut thru the building. And it isn't too big or expensive. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Geometric Tolerancing
I bought this book to do some studying on my own. I bought this book because it said it was a workbook and figured I could spend a night or two and get up to speed, but there are no answers in the back, so I am rather disapointed. The text portion is good.It is a lot nicer reading than the official ANSI 14.5 book! I recommend the text portion, but the workbook portion is about useless without the answers.I see in the preface that there is a separately available teachers guide with the answers, so buy that one instead if you aren't in a classroom environment. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars should be a requirement in aerospace engineering curriculum
Covers most of the problems encountered in the process of computational design optimization, such as the curse of dimensionality, time consuming objective functions, sparce data, uncertainties, etc.The broad and succinct coverage of different optimization and modeling techniques (function approximation or surrogate models) in one volume is quite a remarkable achievement. For the novice, the hardest part is the selection of an appropriatemethod to tackle the problem at hand, because the literature is innundated with overwhelming number of new and classic methods. This book will help the reader make an informed decision on what and whichapproach to take. This is a major time saver.

1-0 out of 5 stars Although Alphabetized, Still Incomplete
I was instructed to purchase this book as a pre-requisite for a course onthe new features of AutoCAD 2000.I found that it lacks properexplanations of the newer features of the software. This book might beacceptable for someone who has never used AutoCAD before; but for someonewho has extensive knowledge it is nearly useless.Every command listed inthe book is also listed in the help topic "commands".It doesn'tdiscuss most of the new features of AutoCAD 2000 that make A2K morepowerful (for example the Design Center).Even though it providesdescriptions for just about every setting, it doesn't explain why a userwould use one setting as opposed to another. This book is written forpeople who merely want to increase their AutoCAD vocabulary without needingto understand the complexities of the software.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't start AutoCad 2000 without this book
I use AutoCad 2000 to make my living working for myself. The program is so versatile that it is impossible to remember all the commands. This book sits right next to my monitor and I use it probably 3 or 4 times a week. Some great features are that it:1) shows you the button for the command,2)gives you commands that are related, 3)gives you tips for thecommand, 4) the alias for the command, and much more.I am able to be thatmuch more productive and accurate, which are the reasons behind computerdrafting.I would recommend this book for every AutoCad 2000 user, beginner or advanced. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What a bargain!
About a month ago, I bought the One Step at a Time series (3 books with the workbook) for AutoCAD 2007 in ebook format. The whole series cost me 30.24 - and I didn't have to wait (or pay) for shipping. Then I printed them all (in color) at work so I could reference them anytime I needed to.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good book/series at a good price!
I bought the AutoCAD 2007: One Step at a Time series (including 3D and Workbook) and am very please with the product.I only had about a week to get up to speed with AutoCAD (I studied it in the mid-90s but haven't seen it since), and these books were very easy to follow and left me with a better-than-functional understanding of the software.I amazed myself with my final 3d drawing!
