Highly Dissapointed
This was the required text for my Basic Blueprint Reading class. Much of the information was helpful and well explained. However, in class we found several errors with this text, and the blueprints were not always ledgible..nor were they drawn to scale. An anwser section in the back of the book would have been helpful with the Test Your Knowledge Sections.

Written in a plain English Style

Inaccuracies w/r to Wildfire Release 2.0
The book explains the mechanics of how to perform basic operations with Wildfire very well, in the first half of the book. However, more complex or higher level operations are sometimes inaccurate, having incorrect or missing steps, or poorly explained in later chapters. This includes some of what the book refers to as advanced drawing and modeling tools. It is quite frustrating to follow the directions given in the text only to find the software does not perform the task as described. In addition, the text gives no clue how to recover from mistakes. Thus, the user is often forced to closeout of the model/drawing completely and start from scratch, or the last save, assuming the application has not locked-up the computer. There is no coverage of sheetmetal modeling techniques, either.

This book is the biggest load of donkey excrement I have ever had the displeasure to lay my eyes on. I am a computer scientist, so I'm used to reading some pretty crappy documentation, but the only thing less informative and useful than this book was the help file that comes with the application.

Excellent reference for any AutoCAD 2002 user
I spent a long time looking for a good AutoCAD reference book. The problem I had with other AutoCAD references was that they based their teaching methodology on an creating an independent drawing. I'm sure this would be great in the classroom, but it was hard to translate the information to the projects I do at work. Basically, I needed a User's Manual on Steroids. And this is it! I've been using the book for 6 months now, and it's never failed to answer any of the oddball questions that come with using AutoCAD. Pretty amazing, considering how quirky the program can be. And it does it in straightforward language, unhindered by heavy doses of jargon. I would recommend this book to any 2002 user, especially to anyone who uses 2002 in their professional practice.

Solid reference, easier to use than ASME Y14.5M

Not worth it.
If you want to learn how to design plastic parts on Pro E this book has absolutly no interest...It shows beautiful models but figure out yourself how to create them on Pro E. Good luck!

Just not much here
I am in between a novice/intermediate user level in Pro E 20. I have a small background in plastics injection molding but mostly silicone molding.This book spends most of the time explaining basic injection molding design (things like draft, runners, core/cavity). But very the discussionof these features is very basic and mostely antedotal.You could learnjust about everything covered in this book in about 1 hour talking with amold designer and probably alot more with the mold designer. If you havebeen commissioned to start designing molds then you will need a hell ofalot more then this book offers you.The final section of the book haswork excercises designing parts.But it just tells you to design someparts on Pro E, NOT how to use Pro E to design the parts. I have doneseveral tutorials that cover general features of Pro E but was looking forsomething that gave some new features in Pro E and HOW tos on thosefeatures. Not in this book. ... Read more

Thorough, but mediocre exercises
Both Basic and Advanced are essentially classroom textbooks, with textbook-style exercises that are abstract and do not follow any one project.Personally, I prefer "learning by example" when the tutorials and exercises are part of a larger project - it's more important to learn how to employ the concepts and tools in a realistic project setting, as opposed to a bunch of unrelated topic-specific exercises.

teaching aid B+
This book takes a hands on approach to explain the ins and outs of autocad 2002. I am still working my way through it, but so far it has been a great learning tool. I don't know if my lack of indepth math skills is making a small part of the training hard or if there is a miniscule amount of of lack of clarity on the authors part that keeps me from giving this a solid A.

Check before you write anything
I am an AutoCAD instructor and we have been using tickoo's text in class for quite a few sessions now. We were delighted to see some great new and enhanced topics in the latest text and we recommend this text to our students and to anyone who is new to AutoCAD. Some of our students read the review here and were reluctant to buy this text. I would suggest that before people put their reviews here, they should check it because lot of people read these reviews and reading such reviews sometime distract them. Printout of help manual!!! This is more or less a complete print out of the Autocad Help documents.Might be usefull as a reference but definetly not a book to learn with.I have past experience but it has been a few years since using AutoCad.To get an answer from this book, be prepared to read about every little detail possible and written in a very "professional" language - but that's not really necessary.So many words are in bold, it is useless. This book is a reference, not a tutorial
Some comments on this book are misleading. An Excellent Work
Mastering AutoCAD 2000 Premium Edition is the best AutoCAD book I have come across in my career. It contains enough and practical oriented tutorials with other helpful tips and time saving techniques that can really make you an AutoCAD guru. The accompany CD is superb. I have recommended the book to my friends and students. Kudos to George Omura!

excellent for beginers-intermediates
Probably one of the best computer manuals i have read, G. Omura has done a great job. The chapters are very well designed, taking you step by step without rush through the basics of autocad and the platform, then famialarizing you with some basic commands and components supported bt exercises, lateron while you buildup a project you learn more advanced commands and tricks, for me as a beginner i found grasping the material written which was alot very easy. the exercises are very useful, the CD is a great deal containing the mastering autocad 2000 instant reference guide and lots more, the figures are very well showen.Read more

Excellent AutoCAD 3D book
I am an engineer and a part-time instructor of AutoCAD at a community college.This is an excellent book on the subject of AutoCAD 3D.I have many books that I use for reference when making lesson plans.While it could be argued which book is best overall, this one would rank near the top no matter its competition.Besides, this book offers things others do not.For instance, it gives an example on how to draw the complex curves of a boat hull using surface modeling techniques (this concept can be translated into automobile fenders or the like). It also shows one how to draw a solid model spring.These are things many other books just don't cover and don't offer enough knowledge on so that one could figure it out on one's own.
Great way to learn
I bought this book with little 3D experience, hoping it would help guide me.I work in a small company and I am the only CAD user, so there isn't any help in the next office.This book taught me how to use 3D drawings to produce prints in probably a third of the time it used to by drawing all three views.Plus, in our shop, isometric views are almost a must to understand many prints, which has reduced our production time greatly.I am fairly well versed now in 3D, but I still reference the book almost weekly.
