Dosen't know left from right
I just bought the book and I am on chapter 3. I have already encountered numerous times when the author says,"the object to the left" when it is actually to the right, or visa versa. He also doesn't know how to count. He will say,"select the two objects" when there is actually three that he instructed you to draw. The book does teach you a lot about VIZ, but his mistakes will make it frustrating at times.

Geat Book
This is an awesome book for those who would like to learn how to use viz! It covers just about every area of viz. This is the only book that I recommend for those trying to learn Viz 4. For those who know the author he is an architect and illustrator so who knows exactly how to write a book that is easy to read and follow.I have used other books in the past by other authors and they are nothing compared to this one.

Left From Right...
I'm about 1/2 way through the book, and it's an effective learning tool so far, BUT the author often doesn't know his left from his right.Over and over again he makes this glaring mistake, and leaves out steps that he clearly doesn't mean to leave out.The first few times I was willing to overlook it, but some of these omissions are costing me 20-30 minutes at a time, because I have to back up several pages and start from the point of his mistake.I can give specific examples, if anyone wants. ... Review of advanced techniques
This book is OK if you are a Pro/e user with moderate experience. Itexplains about start parts - which I've found to be lacking in all the proeusers I've met for exaample. Also the assembly techniques are ok. I wouldtake exception to the book being aimed at advanced users. Anyone who hasused proe extensively will find this book unfulfilling. Also it containslittle or no reference to sheetmetal.

Finally a good Pro E book
I have bought about 4 books now on Pro/E. First two were introductory and that was fine because i was just starting to learn Pro/E.The other two were junk.However, this book is great. The book is definetly designed fora user who has already covered the basics.If your just learning, startwith some basic tutorial books and then get this one.Shows some real goodstuff and well laid out.

This book covers very little on AutoCad 2002
I'm a newbie to Autocad.I was fooled by the previous reviewer, thinking this might be a good book to start out my Autocad carreer.When I got the book and realized that the content is too little and it mentions NOTHING on the 3D part of AutoCAd.I have to return this book and got "AutoCAD 2002: No Experience Required".Now this is a much better book to get started if you are a newbie.It covers most of the 2d stuff then has some intro to 3d.Then I got AutoCad 2002 Bible, which covers virtually everything a Autocad. ... Applying AutoCAD (R) 2000: A Step by Step Approach
This manual, in my opinion, is only good for a drafter making the jump from R14 to 2000. This manual is not meant for a person that is new to ACAD or for a person looking for an in-depth manual. There are too many subjects that are covered inadequately. Some subjects are simply dismissed. I realize that it is difficult to cover "it all" but this manual doesn't even come close. Basically this: If you want to get by and say that you've gone though the manual and you know this book, you don't know much. If you want to learn much more of "much", read the manuals written by Shumaker/Madsen. They're much more in-depth and informative. I do not recommend this manual unless you are making the jump from R14 to 2000.

Applying Autocad
Well written book.Chapters advance from basic concepts to more advanced applications of Autocad.The text, with the questions and problems at the end of each chapter will allow a student to self teach and master Autocad. It took me about 40 hours of study (from ground zero) to be proficient enough to make designs on semiconductor process equipment.

The book is written from a reader's/student's perspective: Clear and to the point.
A book I can recommend for my CIM course students!
I have taught a course on CIM for several years to fourth-year Mechanical Engineering students, but could not find a book to recommend.Well, this year my students will have a book for this course!The presentation and writing are clear, with many insights into the subject of manufacturing.The clarity of writing is matched by excellent illustrations.The book is well-edited, with very few misspellings and errors.With a broad range of manufacturing topics covered in a relatively small volume, the material is presented in a concise manner, which actually makes it easier for the reader to grasp the essential concepts without being overwhelmed with excessive details on any one subject. At the same time, there is enough theory to give something to explain in class and something to test on the exams.This approach should make this a good textbook for my students.

Too Little information
We are a SolidWorks and Pro/E engineering heavy equipment company located in Ohio.I have a strong Pro/E background with a Mechanical Engineering degree, and I am trying to learn SolidWorks. SolidWorks seems like a great design tool for manyapplications.

Autocad is the dominant CAD package, in market share and mindshare. But Howard shows that SolidWorks is perfectly capable of doing muchthe same tasks as Autocad. The modelling is intuitive. And much thought has clearly gone into the deployment of the user interface. The numerous options available to you should not prove overwhelming. Though perhaps that might be the initial impression, as you start the book.
