AutoCAD 2000 Bible
Having purchased AutoCAD for Dummies 2000, and AutoCAD for Architecture 14, this book makes you roll up your sleeves and start working productively from the second chapter. It's written for both the beginner and intermediate AutoCAD user. The CD has various small excercises to complete and provides the user with a wealth of time-saving steps. For anyone using AutoCAD 2000, whether you are a student or professional, this book is excellent. It has saved me literally hours of frustration. The book addresses both architectural and mechanical/electrical diciplines. The plotting chapter is exhaustive, and anyone using AutoCAD knows how important the proper procedures are for final output. Highly recommend this book.

What a bargain!
About a month ago, I bought the One Step at a Time series (3 books with the workbook) for AutoCAD 2007 in ebook format.The whole series cost me 30.24 - and I didn't have to wait (or pay) for shipping.Then I printed them all (in color) at work so I could reference them anytime I needed to.
This bites!
Having spent the last hour trying to download and open this e-book makes it much easier to understand why traditional printing has lasted into the 21st century! I suggest you guys try harder. I'm looking for a refund here.

Good book/series at a good price!
I bought the AutoCAD 2007: One Step at a Time series (including 3D and Workbook) and am very please with the product.I only had about a week to get up to speed with AutoCAD (I studied it in the mid-90s but haven't seen it since), and these books were very easy to follow and left me with a better-than-functional understanding of the software.I amazed myself with my final 3d drawing!

Not what it should be...
This book is another retelling of beginner basics. The sixth edition seems to be merely a cut and paste of previous editions, with a couple of gratuitous references to V8 thrown in for marketing spice.I found it useless in the transition (from J & SE)to V8.If you are hoping for insight into the Autocad interoperability issues, I suggest you look elsewhere.Although an impressive looking paperweight, experienced users purchasing this book are kissing fifty-plus bucks goodbye.

Great Starter Book
As a new user of Microstation (but already familiar with AutoCAD), I've found the book presented in logical order and in an understandable fashion.It has a simple step-by-step approach for studying.As I go through page-by-page, I'm gaining compentence in the use of this program.

Many inaccuraccy including the title
I pre-ordered this book since this is about the only V8 book out there.When I recieved it, the name was different than advertised but the ISBN number is correct.Apparently this is not a new book but an update to the old one.What a waste.Someone should fire the editor of the book because many of the things that have been updated like pictures do not match the text or vice versa.This book glances over all of the new V8 items instead of going into them in depth.This book is good for beginers using J (v7) but I don't recomend it for someone using v8.I have been using v8 since it came out and I must say this book taught me almost nothing that I didn't already know.There are many customization things I would like to know how to do and this book doesn't even mention this.Like another reviewer said, this isn't a cover all bases book like the many books available for Autocad.Most of those book are also twice as thick.Read more

Searching some good text on the customizing of AutoCAD was always like touching a tip of the mountain. When I came across the book by Prof. Sham Tickoo I was thinking that it would be also have same programmes with errors but it was my myth for all customizing books. I really had a good time using this book, as I am able to created and run all the programs that are given in this book. This is the reason I have recommended this book to my colleagues and fellow students. Good job Prof. Tickoo.

Why to bank on this book of Customizing of AutoCAD
One of the reason why to bank on this book is that the approach makes learning customizing of AutoCAD easy. Others add-ons like, free technical support, chapter detailing how to create your own menus and toolbars, examples, tips and notes, and many more. I cannot see this much in any other customizing book. As a learner I recommend this book to those who want to learn customizing of AutoCAD.

Good for Classroom Use
I am currently taking an AutoCAD class in my school and this book acts as a good guide.The teacher filters out most of the exercises to more relevant ones.It doesn't make for a good reference though, so if you want a reference manual, I would stay clear of this one.Every year they make a new one of these books, and they are almost identical for the exception of that they have little tid bits on "new in 2005" or "new in 2006".Don't bother buying this book every time a new version of AutoCADcomes out either, they are all almost the same.
Thorough, but mediocre exercises
Both Basic and Advanced are essentially classroom textbooks, with textbook-style exercises that are abstract and do not follow any one project.Personally, I prefer "learning by example" when the tutorials and exercises are part of a larger project - it's more important to learn how to employ the concepts and tools in a realistic project setting, as opposed to a bunch of unrelated topic-specific exercises.
