Best book of its type I've seen
What Jack Smith has done in this book goes far beyond what the title indicates. It is an excellent tutorial, AND an excellent reference book AND a great project book.
Great Book, to bad it is written for an OBSOLETE compiler
The author did a fantastic job! It's really a shame that MBasic is an OBSOLETE product that hasn't been updated in several years and does not include any new Pic processors that has been released in the last couple of years.

A great MBasic AND electronics reference for all kinds of PIC projects
This is much more than just a fantastic replacement for the MBasic manual (although it's very good as that). I haven't seen any MBasic tutorials with this much depth anywhere. Read more

A surprisingly good book for such a low price

The best book around on accessibility
This book beats the others I've seen hands down. Not only does it explain exactly what the problems are; it also tells you how to go about fixing them, in detail, including code solutions in some places. Where there aren't solutions it presents very useful workarounds.Read more

Disappointing
While there is no one good definition of "robot", I would state as a minimum requirement that it interacts with its environment.Of the ten LEGO constructs in this book, only two - the Climber and Beetle - would qualify as robots.Of the eight remaining ones, six have no sensor inputs at all, and four have only one motor.These vehicles basically move forward or back, with no provision for turning, without major modifications.
beginners will enjoy it
this is a very basic book, if you are just starting with MindStorms or if you are 12 years old, then you'll like it. Hackers, dont think about getting it.

I can't believe I bought this book...
Very poorly orginized.Concepts are referenced before being introduced.Explanations are at best superficial.Elemental information is nonexistent.Numerous mistakes in the text and diagrams.Feels like extra information thrown just to bulk it up.

A sloppy and oversimplified overview of CNC
This book tries too hard to cover all aspects CNC and all types of CNC machining.It fails on both fronts.Conversational programming methods are woefully simplistic and often inaccurate.The diagrams are confusingand repetitive.There are not enough examples of actual CNC programs andproper explanations of each individual code.There are far better CNCbooks on the market.Anyone with no CNC background will gain little formthis book.Those with CNC experience will shake their hands and correctthe numerous mistakes in the text.

Great Book, Complete, Rigorous, Not an easy read though
I'am primarily a VLSI Design engineer working on a product requiring digital control. I'am using this Book along with Ditial Control by Franklin to understand the subject. This book is very comprehensive and the author takes pains to go into the details. I highly recommend it as a reference. For a newbie engineer (Yours truly) with limited time, this book has been a tough read. However if you are a student with enthu. to learn and time to burn, this is a Great book.

The most complete book on discrete time control systems
I used this book for a course on Digital Control System Design and it help me to have a clear understanding on continuous control system design methods applied to discrete time control systems. The book have chapters specialized in time domain and frequency domain analysis, along with alternative methods to design with damping and natural frequency specifications. Also, a chapter dedicated to microprocessors and digital signal processors help you understand the importance of computers in today's control applications. Digital Control Systems by Benjamin C. Nice book
This is one of the best books on distributed computing I have read. Distributed algorithms by Tel comes next. This book is elegantly simple in description. It covers a broad range of topics (including new stuff like Slicing) (at least it had everything I wanted and more. The chapters are small and the author says they are equivalent to one classroom lecture, which makes for easy reading. The algorithms are all pseudo code (I like the style) though unfortunately there is no real code (though I found the actual Java code on the author's site). The approach is might be a bit too formal for some people though it was exactly what I was looking for. ... Read more

it's a great book
this boosk is excelent, its a great guide to begin in the world of after effects

outstanding learning tool
Trish and Chris Meyer have created an easy to read text book that can teach anyone how to use this amazing program. But what makes this book better than most is the dvd-rom. not only does it give you every image and movie and project used to teach the lessons in the book but it also includes a number of free plug-ins and mattes that you can use in your own work. Considering the low price of this book it is a great value. The plugins and mattes alone are probably worth of $200 but I got the book for about $40. A great buy for anyone interested in learning after effects.

This book is great, just the first chapter jumps you right into the action and teaches you a little everything. Then after the first chapter they concentrate on more specific topics. Great Book
I enjoyed this book so much that I still have it on my bookshelf. It's interesting to review it years later and see how many of the "predictions" about technology development came true. I wish he would write another book.
