Embedded Systems
So Far I have been using it alot to figure out how to program the assembly for a pic, very useful

It is not ment to be a "PIC for dummies" Book
I took Dr. Peatman's class in college with this book, and I think this book would have done better if he had bundled the Class Lab book. The class lab book and actually having the hardware in front of you made the book make a whole lot more sense. I can see how some of the other readers may have been disappointed because with out the hardware in front of you its a bit difficult to really understand whats going on. I think this book is great as a reference if you have a PIC controller to play around with, but I would not recommend this book to some one who is looking for a "PIC microprocessors for Dummies" type book.

Lack of space
The book tries to tell about everything, so it looses the focus. The content begins with the MicroComputer Architecture and tells about C/C++ programming also covering Communication Protocols... Sentences are full of knowledge and tips, very successfull but it is hard for anybody to cover all topics in 440 pages. ... Read more

There's a better and cheaper way...
Why spend too much money for a brief overview when you can get the best manuals for programming AB/Rockwell's PLCs for free??? Just go to Rockwell's Literature Library and search for the PLC technology you're interested in. For example, if you want PLC5 hardware manuals just search for PLC5. If you want ControlLogix.... well, you get the picture. There are free, high quality, PDF versions of most all of their hardware and software products. You don't need to spend $100 for a little over 300 pages (!!! Geeze !!!) of Kindergarten stuff. Learn the real stuff for nothin'

Good, but for beginners only.
This book explains PLCs in terms of Allen Bradley PLCs. It is targeted at people that have never used a PLC before and does a good job of explaining the fundamentals of PLCs. If you are in this group, I would strongly recommend this book. However, it is not very helpful if you are already familiar with PLCs and are looking to learn about Allen Bradley products as much of the book concerns things such as what kind of devices are connected to PLCs, good installation practices, etc.

Good, not great
Like others, I recommend this to be a part of the library in any maintenance and engineering department that is responsible for Rockwell-based automation systems. It's a good overview and should be helpful in a mixed environment.Read more

This is an incredibly structured book about creativity.Although I agree with most of what he says, I find little value in this book.The thing that I disagree with most is the need for tension between bizz and buzz.I know that harmony between the two is not only acheivable but more productive.
Clever stories but no handbook
The book benefits from amusing anecdotes but is very light on actual help for putting in place a workable framework for managing business innovation.

good way to learn assembler
The text affords you a good way to learn how to program in assembly language. It shows what is involved in coding barely one step above the silicon. What you can learn here can mostly be transported to other families of microcontrollers or microprocessors. All common ones use a Neumann architecture.

Very useful book for basic programming principles understanding
I work in Ireland in a small workshop with Fanuc and Heidenhain controllers. This book gave me an inspiration in programming. Still everything depends only on you but this book reveals how much you can learn of your machine. I'd say this book is excellent for operators and beginners in programming using ISO Fanuc format.
Best book for learning CNC programming
This is an incredibly detailed and helpful book for learning the concepts behind programming CNC machine tools. Although most programming is now done with the aid of CAM programs which generate G-code based on a drawing of the part to be machined, the complexities of CNC machining demand that the operator have a thorough understanding of CNC programming. From configuring a post processor in a CAM program, to fixing simple errors in a generated program "on the fly", to entering single lines in a machine's Manual Data Input mode, the helpfulness of this book cannot be understated. Besides programming tutorials, the book also covers strategies for programming various cycles and tool changes. The CD-ROM contains tests and projects which make this a useful textbook in a classroom setting.

Fantastic Book for learning C++
I've been developing software for about 15 years now and I needed a refresher in C++.The bad is that this book didn't help me until about Chapter 11 (remember that all you C jockies out there).The good is that I would definitely recommend this book to anyone starting out programming at any level (including a novice).Excellent book.

The Bible of C++
I was introduced to this book when I was in junior college and just starting my programming courses. Now I'm a graduating senior and I still refer to this book. Other books are good, but the code examples in this book are excellent. I guess I learn better from code example, this book does not have a lot of text, yet is extremely full of excellent information. I just grabbed it off the shelf to finish off a program that I am working on, and I just had to write a review about it before I opened up the book...AGAIN.
