Great warehousing and material handling book
This is the best book I've ever found on material handling and warehouse storage. Though a little pricey, this book has content that makes it well worth the cost. Extensive detail on material handling and storage equipment. Also has separate chapters dedicated to small item warehouses, case-pick warehouses, and pallet warehouses.Read more

great book for those less worried about theory
This book came in very handy as a compliment to Meriam's contribution (5th edition).For those of us less technically-minded, yet required to take courses such as engineering dynamics, this book left the theory and procedural derivations to another day so that at first by practice may understanding come about.When I couldn't quite comprehend what Meriam's book said, I found my answer in this book.There are better (ahem, simpler) explanations of not only the ideas but the math as well, a major help to someone increasingly out of practice, however the appendices are weak so don't look to them for much review.Answers to odd-numbered problems are provided.Note: This book doesn't make the learning easy, it just softens the blow sufficiently. ... you can't find an alternative.
when i was a student, i used to think, like many other reviewers, that the book is extremely dry. but now as a researcher in atmospheric-oceanic dynamics, i realise that the book is useful in explaining the most essential and elementary theories behind the dynamics one can encounter in meteorology or climate dynamics.
An Underrated Text
This book, often simply referred to as "Holton", has been roundly cursed by undergraduates since it was first published. I know, because I was one of them.However, as the years went by, and as the number of classes requiring Holton as a text went by, I realized two things.First, that this book was not meant to hold your hand through all the derivations.It requires a competent instructor who can use Holton as a detailed companion to rigorous coursework.This book is NOT for the average person who wishes to study alone.The second thing is that this book was written to fill a gap.There were no similar atmospheric dynamics texts.As a consequence, it must cover a large amount of material in a rather small, college textbook-sized space.It does this well.Yes, the author's writing style is dry to the extreme, and yes, physical explanations are often lacking.However, if you have access to a competent professor, neither of these are problems.One final thought... as we call the book simply "Holton" remember that Frankenstein's monster is often called simply "Frankenstein", but we will leave comparisons to the reader - and to the author!

An excellent book, easy to read and follow
I have to agree with the other reviewers, this book is very handy, and easy to read.It covers quite a lot of ground for a pocket manual, which is great. A classic reborn!
Audel books have been around forever, but I could never find a revision, at least not of this really well-known book for my toolbox. I had an old copy, but it was really out of date. I'm recommending this new one to all the other guys in the shop!

this book contains a ton of quick references for alot of things you will use if your in the mechanical trades, or industrial maintenance. some of them are,drawing and print sysmbols,all about belts,chains,gears and couplings,seals,bearings,and pumps, rigging information and techniques,piping andallowances for elbows,couplings,unions ect,sprinkler systems, and a whole lot of other references to other things i cant list here because of time. im in industrial maintenance and i know ill use mine alot. its also very easy to read and understand. ... Good material...
I recommend this book to all my students who are getting started in working with the AB SLC 500. This book will give you a great start if you are trying to learn about AB PLCs. I also recommend ... for ActiveX driver software to communicate with AB PLCs. The reason I did not rate it at five stars is because the book is a little pricey and it omits some of the more advanced ladder instructions.

Run away
I found this book difficult to read and the example problems did not help with the homework problems.I went to return this book after taking Dynamics to find out that an 8th edition is being released and the book store would only offer my $7.25 for a book I paid well over $100.00.The fact that an 8th edition is being release so soon tells me that this book is flawed and being rewritten.

Disappointed
While the theory is somehow digestible, the problems are way too difficult and out of the real world. TO THE AUTHORS:When you imagine a mechanical system to be analyzed, try to make it real, not weird. Set as unknown the parameters that cannot be measured not those that can.Please, don't distort the engineering thinking of our students.(By the way: Fig. B.1 on page 1297 shows a crankshaft not a camshaft! Your solutions to problems 16.107 and 16.108 in the Instructor's Manual do not include the normal acceleration of the clamp.Energy Conservation when applied to Prob. 16.108 gives a term in omega^2).

Wow !
Informal is an extraordinary work. I guess the reason why it's so shocking is that the content of the book is not like those static structural forms or solutions that we see in structural class. The case studies that Balmond brings to the table are very recent and genuine by star architects. I guess I was shocked by the fact that all these architects are not structurally oriented architects such as Foster/ Piano/ Calatrava/ Hopkins. Rather, they are theoretically approaching architects such as Koolhaas/ Liebskind; or, tectonically approaching architects such as Siza. I never thought projects by them had anything to do with structural or mathmatical innovation. Reading Informal, one can easily detect where the originality lie in each project. Sometimes it's in the irregularity of geometry or sometimes it's in mathmatical mystery. Balmond contends that they are all in mother nature. Unlike a formal structural engineering (e.g. Peter Rice) Balmond's originality comes from the informal networks. In High-tech, the ingenuity of structural entity was condensed into joinery. Informal networks is much more diverse and complex than that. It is against the conventional formal structural idea of hierarchy/center/symmetry. Balmond argues, formal approach is defining a problem in a "fixed" or "contained" manner; hence, leading to a same old idea of solution/ detailing. In Informal, Balmond redefines it in a more active/dynamic geometry, to bring about unexpected realities. Sometimes through structural innovation and sometimes through special surface treatment, Balmond promoted and realized the ideas of star architects. Overall, he has freed architecture from the "Cartesian Cage".

If you want to learn Rhino ....
This book provides plenty of examples, grouped in a context in which they will be used. Some Nurbs, modeling theory and troubleshooting tips. Enough to answer questions as you go through the text but not so much as to be overwhelming.
Horrible
Do not buy this book. Instead buy the online Rhino video tips from Mcneel. I bought this book expecting to learn something only to discover that the stuff I learned was useless. Save your time and money
Numerous omissions and typos made for a very frustrating read.Mislabeled drawings and missing or erroneous instructions made exercises difficult to follow. Fundamental exercises were superficial and fragmented without logical development or context making retention difficult.Rhino's supplied Level 1 and Level 2 Training Materials are far superior in all regards. Don't waste your time and money.The publisher and author were e-mailed regarding problems but no response. ... Read more

Not bad as a reference
This books deals with all kinds of manipulators. It has a good amount of math but looks not enough and not easy to understand (I did not go into the math details). I think this book would be a good reference in your library where it has a good amount of advanced information about manipulators.

a branch of applied maths
For decades, physics and engineering undergraduates have used texts on classical mechanics that often contained what some students might consider to be abstruse ideas, with little everyday usage. But this book on robotics is a worthy rejoinder. It can be regarded as an advanced text in classical mechanics.

Where's the useful stuff?
You could spend the rest of your life reading this book! It would be useful for any professor or A student or other intellectual studying the material in depth. But for a practicing engineer who has little available time to ponder the specifics, it would take a "lot" of effort to find material that could be put to work in this text. If you are interested in deriving the equations you need yourself, or if you're analysing a unique design, then this is the book for you. But if you are busy with standardized systems and technology, find another reference.

A Misleading Description
I was expecting more tables and equations especially for natural convection external flow.There is also very little useful information about forced convection external flow.I also would have liked to see some sample calculations to demonstrate how to use this book better.
Reference book for engineers
This is not an introductory book on heat transfer! Instead it is a thorough treatment on heat transfer in a stringent an extensive manner. This book places greater emphasis on correctness than "easy-to-understand-ness". However, if you do read it, you gain a lot compared to most introductory heat transfer books. If you are interested in forced convection heat transfer, this book gives well documented equations and charts for a great number of shapes, though mostly internal flow.
