5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide for using heat exchangers
Almost all kinds of heat exchangers have introduced by this title! It contains detail and abundant materials about heat exchangers, like charts, equations, and tables. It also contains the detail process for design of heat exchangers. Besides, the examples mentioned by the title are so clear and easy to understand. Well, the title can easily make junior engineers to handle the work of using and design heat exchangers. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Text - "Cheap" Physical Quality
One would think for $150, this book could have been printed on heavier weight and better quality paper. Either Wiley went overboard in trying to lighten physical weight for the student to carry, or they're trying to sqeeze even more money from already ultra-high book price mark-ups.
5-0 out of 5 stars heat exchangers
heat transfer, exchange of energy in the form of heat between bodies or parts of the same body at different temperature. heat is transferred by convection, radiation, or conduction. although these three processes can occur simultaneously, it is not unusual for one mechanism to overshadow the other two. for example, heat is transferred predominantly by conduction through the brick wall of a house, a pan of water on a stove is largely heated by convection and eart receives heat from the sun almost wholly by radiation.5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I don't usually write reviews of books that I have purchased but I felt that I had to for this one. Does a great job in explaining the concepts and doesn't leave you lost as it moves through the chapters. It is written clearly and very easy to follow. The answers(not the worked out solutions) are avaliable on the company's website. (....) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool
Great introductory book. It built upon many of the concepts I had learned in my General Chemistry couses. Having previously worked in metal fabrication, I now learned what the metal specification numbers meant and why some types of metals are harder or softer than others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very easy to understand
Although i found it to be mundane at times, it was a great book when it came to teaching the material.the examples are made very clear and the text cleanly explains anything that you may find confusing.very highly recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars an introduction
The depth, clarity with which he surveys materials science concepts will make this text indispensable for both studying and practicing engineers for years to come. Without a doubt, this is one of the most well written textbooks I have ever had the pleasure of reading. All the figures are well drawn, the green fonts here and there seem quiet. All the tough theories, concepts just jump out of the line and hit my forehead. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars New & Improved? NOT
I have access to Peterson's original book (older than me?) and to the first edition of this one, published in 1974. I recommend buying used copies of the old ones. They contain the same info and are easier to use since the charts are bigger.

5-0 out of 5 stars Guide to Stress Risers and Other Structural Phenomena
Absolutely essential book for anybody interested in stresses in notched bodies; structural analysts who like to use the 'back of the envelope', finite element analysts, fracture mechanicists; designers in aerospace, rail, heavy machinery, light machinery, medical devices, almost anything you can name. Book has been updated from the original; even if you have the original edition, this 2nd edition is well worth having for your engineering reference library.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not so impressive.
This book is written by various experience P.E. or Professors. It is not emphasis on practical calculation. There are very few example and definitions for formulars and related equation. If reader has no experience before, it would be very difficult to understand. Half of the book is devoted to bridge design, and it dose not provide enough information to design a bridge..5-0 out of 5 stars Designer in structural steel is a complete book , do not buy

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Coverage
I found the coverage excellent. I was originally reading another text, but that book left out critical material that makes its presentation fuzzy (which is why I looked at this book instead). This book is excellent in that it builds up all the necessary machinery from first principles and explains things in a way that someone without any prior knowledge in fluids can understand the material.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a good fluids book
I like this book much more than Fay or White or Batchelor.
3-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Book, but very sloppy editing with mistakes
This book is very comprehensive and covers all of the major aspects of fluid mechanics. However, there are several mistakes in this book. Some of the problem solutions are wrong, but above all, the equations are often referenced incorrectly. This can make it quite frustrating for students, especially when they haven't figured out that they are being misled. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible textbook
B. D. Cullity has authored or co-authored several textbooks on x-ray diffraction that are commonly used in college classes on diffraction. This version by Addison-Wesley which was first published in the late 1970's is probably the worst one.The text is very difficult to understand, equations are not fully explained, and many terms are used that can be quite unfamiliar to engineers and scientists without prior knowledge of reciprocal space and crystallography. The book attempts to explain the entire concept of diffraction using Bragg's law, without providing the more intuitive view of photons and electrons in the Brillouin Zone.As such, the conceptualization is tricky even though the math is not that difficult.I would not recommend buying, or even using this book, for learning or teaching about diffraction.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Edited Edition
Cullity's expostion of x-ray diffraction is excellent, but the third edition, as noted by other reviewers, is missing all chapter specific references. If you're interested in this title, try to find a copy of the second edition.

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
The 2nd Edition of "Elements of X-ray Diffraction" by B.D. Cullity ranks among the best introductory books ever written on the subject. When I bought this 3rd edition I hoped to obtain a book of similar standards. However, exchanging chapter titles (to less meaningful descriptors) and a mere renumbering of chapters and appendices (leaving nearly the complete body of the 2nd edition unchanged) was far from my expectations. I have sincere doubts, if the few brief sections added in this 3rd edition provide much useful information for a newcomer. Somehow, I feel they destroy the integrity of an old well-written text. Above all the publisher obviously did a poor job: The pages with "Chapter references" were completely lost somehow (they amounted to 9 pages in the 2nd edition) and are dearly missed whenever a reader wants to dwell a little bit deeper into the subject and use the citations provided in the text. If you want to go for a good introductory text on X-ray diffraction then choose the 2nd edition. Although based on knowledge of the sixties, and thus slightly old-fashioned, it still makes the point in a consistent and scholarly way. Lets hope the 2nd edition will be available for some time. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Teacher & Engineering
It is a very good one. I would recommend to buy if you could afford the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great information -- several typos, however
The graphs and data provide a lot of good information but the book has several typos in key areas which lead to many hours of frustration. Also, I wish the book was offered in hardcover.I appreciate the desire to keep the costs low for the students, but a book like this will be life long resource for working engineers and I don't feel that the book will hold up well over the years with a soft cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable!
As a student in Materials Science and Engineering, this book has again and again been a priceless resource. It contains data and references which are clearly presented and precisely commented, and I often catch myself looking up the graphs or the appendices to find the solution to a particular problem. The Case Studies are very instructive and sometimes even amusing to read; they always reinforce a point previously made and give the reader a sense of history for the object in question (telephone, hair dryer, etc.).But the book doesn't stop at purely functional design; it also covers aesthetic aspects with the motto: "Good design works; excellent design also gives pleasure." This is a pleasing book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
I used this book for a graduate course in marine hydrodynamics.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good
Extremely well-written, readable. Here, you can learn about airfoil (hydrofoil) theory in detail, all the way through induction effects (drag and change of angle of inflow). I read it to understand outboard racing propellers. There's is no tractable theory of the latter because of asymmetry, and because racing propellers are surfacing propellers. So you learn what you can from airfoil theory and the rest is engineering via the seat of the pants, try something and then test it to see how it works. I did that for 9 years and set 3 APBA OPC speed records along with winning 6 National Championships, so the method worked pretty well in practice for me but left the most interesting questions about what propellers are doing unanswered. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Too many errors and no errata
The book is decent - better than a few I have purchased but suffers from a common failing in technical books - it is repleat with errors. Really, a book which is used by some in technical schools or colleges should have only a few errors at most. This book has scores of errors, which makes learning very difficult. Like most subjects if you intend to teach yourself, you will need three or four references including PLC manuals in order to resolve the many ambiguous diagrams and statements in the text...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great teaching material
I teach electricians about PLCs and use this book as the class textbook. It has very good coverage of the subject. There are other books that are less costly and cover the same basic material (but not in the same depth that this book does).

4-0 out of 5 stars More Mathematical than Technical
Defiantly more of a math book than a programming guide, but that was what I was expecting. This book explains how to use neural networks in the field of finance. It does so very logically and mathematically. You are shown how to apply neural networks to many different financial problems. But you are mostly left to yourself to actually implement the neural networks on a computer system. Some example source code is provided for MathCad, which is an expensive software package you can buy separately.
