5-0 out of 5 stars Bio-Based Polymers and Composites
This is quite possibly the best-written technical book that I have ever read.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in "sustainability" issues or use of renewable materials. This book describes the growing use of plant-based chemical feed-stocks and materials although there is also a chapter on the use of feather (chicken, turkey etc) reinforcement. The authors selected the material very nicely so that the subjects covered have a nice flow.Topics move from industrial-type separations processes to chemical modifications of oils, to blending materials to get desired properties, through to manufacturing and current products. There is also discussion and data comparing materials properties based on source and processing.Throughout the book never loses its "readability" or interest.I started the book with a lot of interest in the subject and finished it with even more interest in the subject, and that does not always happen.I have read other books in subjects that are of interest to me and yet lost interest in the book itself and thereafter used the book merely as a reference source. This book is one I quickly decided I would read from cover to cover. It does assume basic familiarity with chemical terminology and some technical background but I think anyone with a bachelor level background in chemistry or chemical engineering or some materials-related field will have no difficulty with the treatment ofthe subject matter.Modern industry is highly dependent on non-renewable resources, and the polymer industry specifically is largely dependent on petroleum-based feedstocks.I think every materials educator, researcher, formulator or manufacturer should start learning about bio-based materials since they are certain to become increasingly important to our economy, and I think this book is not only the first to deal with the subject, but even as other books become available, I believe this will remain the best for quite some time. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent one-stop reference for a very complex field
The 1997 edition of the Encyclopedia of Packaging Technology is an excellent reference for anyone who works with packaging, especially for those people who have no academic or vocational training in these subjects. You will get the clearest explanations of any subject that falls under packaging.I only wish it included the original material from 1986. The 1997 edition adds to what is in 1986, but if you do not have the 1986 edition, you will be missing relevant background on the older technologies. The only packaging reference you will need unless you are trying to figure out how to actually create a package.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good text book
This book approaches the subject from a scientific point of view rather than an industrial one, which is typical of such a book. The discussions are based on research literature published by well known people in the field of cemented carbides. This book will be helpful for advanced students, and researchers. However, some more data on commercial brands of cemented carbides (a more elaborate discussion in Chapter 14, and 16 on how to select grades for a particular application) would make it better.

2-0 out of 5 stars Avoid if possible
Every other engineering and science book I have seen has used "rho" as the standard variable for density. This author uses "D".ALL the formula are like that.He just uses his own variable regardless of what the standard is.This is not only extremely annoying, this is also unacceptably for a scientist or engineer. This index makes the book extremely confusing to read and coupled with a poor index, it's practically useless as a reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good balance between technical and practical info
I can't speak to the needs of industrial users, but for the small fabrication shop operator this book is an excellent resource. The writing is a good balance between technical info and practical, plain english descriptions of press brake tooling design and use.

1-0 out of 5 stars Screen Printing History
If you want a good history from the 60's of screen printing then this is the book for you.It was first published in 1963 and hasn't been updated since.Old black and white pictures are included that would be seen in an old Popular Mechanics to include the hand drawn illustrations. If your looking to review or learn new techniques or just refresh your memory this is not the book to get.I'm starting my own business and after being out of it for a few years I was wanting a refresher book I could look to.This was not the one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Step by Step Process
This book gives a clear and complete picture of every aspect of press operation and silk screen technique-from individually operated manual presses to modern automatic presses capable of turning out 2000-3000 impressions an hour-and indicates the subject, this volume includes practically everything of importance known about the silk screen process.

1-0 out of 5 stars don't waste your time
if you are looking for a D.I.Y. book on silk screening look elsewhere. this is more of a historical review of the process. the book was copywritten in the '60's so there isn't any "new technology" inthe content. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable reference
This is a good starting point for the reader interested in rheology or polymer dynamics. Many definitions and concepts widely used in the field of rheology of complex fluids can be found in this work. One of the introductory chapters is dedicated to qualitatively explain the most counter intuitive phenomena found in polymeric liquids. The rest of the book is primarily devoted to describe a variety of models, frequently illustrated with experimental data. The models are provided in a self-contained fashion, facilitating their use nad understanding.Read more
