Excelent book
Starts with basics and develops the explanation always pointing AISC code sections. Have a good explanations on constructions and how to keep the design simple and clear. I used it for writing a program for factorizing loads.

A good text book
This book approaches the subject from a scientific point of view rather than an industrial one, which is typical of such a book. The discussions are based on research literature published by well known people in the field of cemented carbides. This book will be helpful for advanced students, and researchers. However, some more data on commercial brands of cemented carbides (a more elaborate discussion in Chapter 14, and 16 on how to select grades for a particular application) would make it better.

An excellent view of materials in practice
This text gives an introduction to the properties and traits of materials as they will be used in manufacturing and the field.As a mechanical engineer, it was a pleasure to see the equipment and the methods of testing.This book gives a descriptive approach to the subject, which I feel packs a lot more punch than the quantitative methods most materials science coursework gives.The author clearly loves his subject, as shown in the incredible research and documentation he has assembled.An excellent source for self-study!

A good source of welding knowledge
Excelente la atenci�n de Amazon. El libro: Muy bueno, es un compendio del arte de la soldadura que ayudar� a cualquiera que desee introducirse en este campo. Contiene gr�n cantidad de informaci�n tanto de equipos como de procesos y t�cnicas. Desear�a si que tuviese un poco mas de profundidad en el tema de la soldadura por resistencia del aluminio. Soy ingeniero mec�nico, gr�n parte de mi trabajo tiene relaci�n con soldadura y recomiendo de todas maneras leer este libro.
modern welding "paperback" version
I purchased Modern Welding- the "paperback" version, used off of Amazon, however, when it arrived today I was dismayed to discover that the "paperback" edtion is a Lab Manual, that is, a quiz that accompanies the text book.Well, I am out some cash and back at square one- I still need a copy of Modern Welding, too bad Amzon did not state that there is no Paperback version of Modern Welding.

This book leaves something to be desired
I have been reading this book for a class. I must say that this book is not as detailed as I would like it to be. I am an engineer and my expectation was that when a statement is made details would be provided to backup the statements. And the figures in the book are not easy to understand quickly. Excellent book
I am new to the study of locksmithing. I have worked a lot with locks and have always wanted to learn more. I read this book from cover to cover and found it very informative. I felt it went into detail a little too much with specific models of locks and key cutters, but could be helpful. All in all though, I did learn a lot and would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get started in locksmithing.

Insufficient detail
The editorial says this book, which assumes you have alredy read Audel Machine Shop Basics, will tell you all you need to know, but it falls far short of the mark.

Sand Casting condensed
I'm using this book as a textbook for my metal casting class. There is much more to learn about casting than this book covers but it's still a great introduction to the basics of sandcasting.

Even easier than he makes it seem
This is Book 1 of a seven book series.I've only completed this one so far and it was even easier than I thought it would be.Gingery is obviously a hands-on type person and, while very knowledgeable, not very clear in some of his instructions and in the overall structure of the book.For instance, it took me two tries to fire the lid of my furnace because the difference between "curing" and "vitrifying" were not made sufficiently clear (fortunately it was just a matter of crumbling the first try up and adding more water).He also talks several times about "hair dryer hoses" and it took me a couple weeks to realize he was talking about an obsolete type of dryer that was available when he first wrote the book, back in the early 80s. This is a wonderful book that is the first in the "Build a Metal Working Shop From Scrap" series. It goes over basic foundry processes and materials and finally the building and operation of a Charcoal fired furnace for melting aluminum. I built a furnace out of a garbage can from this book, but I haven't fired it yet. Unfortunately, the charcoal burns with a lot of smoke and there are alot of ashes left over when you are done. Even with the disadvantages of the dirtyness, it is easier to work with than gas. ... Read more

This is a keeper!
This book along with, "The Gun Digest Book of Exploded Gun Drawings" was given as a gift to my son who, with his brother, is a novice hunter, with a beginning interest in gunsmithing. They have acquired a number of shot guns and rifles and found this book matched their needs exactly. They found this book fascinating and were so excited. Clear, helpful, detailed and would appear to be valuable for both the beginner and serious firearm enthusiasts. They have put it to practical use - so easy to use! These books have not been relegated to the library or reference shelf yet and as reluctant as I am to say it, they remain in the bathroom, so are read and reviewed almost daily and I don't see that changing anytime soon. They can't say enough good things about the book -
Good Shotgun reading
Yet another good reading for the beginner, or for someone who specifically onws one of the shotguns in the book.As I have said in another review, I would like to see Gun Digest publish another volume with newer production shotguns in addition to this book.All in all, very good, worth reading.

The only problem I found was that some pages were almost to dark to see breakdown components. A better breakdown sequence would be helpful.
