2-0 out of 5 stars Disorganized technical reading...
Although this book has accurate technical content, the organization is ill-thought and amounts to little more than numerous papers stapled together under a pretty cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars PVD from A to Z
If you are new to PVD as I am, you will find this book to be well worth the money. If the book doesn't give you enough details on what you are interested in, it will give you a ton of references to get you in the right direction. As a graduate student working on different PVD techniques including RF Sputtering, Thermal Evaporation, Electron Beam Evaporation, and Arc Deposition I use this book all the time. The only drawback is that it is huge but I liked it so much, I simply bought a copy for the lab and a copy for home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Handbook from a very practical man.
This is a valuable Handbook for people working in related industries, universities and research institutes.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent, but slightly overpriced, manual.
This book is packed with useful information on structural steel detailing. The authors have taken their time to compile all of the various elements of structural steel detailing, from welding, bolting and corrosion detailing, to lots of very useful tables and worked examples.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recovery And Refining Of Precious Metals - Second Edition
Written in a clear and simple manner, this newly revised reference follows the great success of the first edition (referred to as the "Precious Metal Bible") with a complete overview of the recovering, testing, extracting, and refining of precious metals. Both primary sources - placer gold, black sand, and ores - and secondary sources - scrap jewelry, electronic scrap, old films, buffings, spent plating and stripping solutions, catalytic automobile converters, and old eyeglasses are covered.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent gold refining book!
This book is well written. It takes highly technical language and turns it into verbage any layman can understand and easily apply. The sketches and formulas makes learning even easier. I was able to understand and apply the refining of gold, silver, and platinum quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars The non-chemist precious metal chemistry bible
It took me two years to obtain this book for it changed editor's houses several times in the near past.Yet, it was worth every efforts! The second edition is more thorough in it's common topics than the first edition, and contains new material. This book is worth every penny you'll spend on it and I bet that if you use it in the lab, you'll regret not being able to afford a second copy for safekeeping in your library.Whether you're a small time refining jeweller or a commercial gold refining operation, the book will not only give you applied recipes and procedures but also, stimulates your imagination with contemporary methods new ideas and an original conceptual approach to precious metal chemistry. It's a treasure trove of ideas and practical information for the non-chemist or the week-end basement-lab chemist who wants to learn the basics or the commercial operator who want to get new ideas on how to improve his bottom line.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incomparable. A work entitled to great respect.
This author wrote a book on this subject on or about 1971 and I was somewhat disappointed in that edition at that time. This book is another world. You would not think this was the same writer. It may have taken thirty years or so but it was well worth the wait. I do not think there is another book available on this subject that caneven begin to compare with this creation.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners
This book is great for newbies to Metal casting, it provides great details in creating molds, furnaces, and the do's and don'ts.
4-0 out of 5 stars solid.
This text is great for the sand molder. There is a depth of knowledge that few others can illustrate in a clear manner. Also notable is the glossary of casting terms that takes up the last half of the book with drawings and clear language.I would recommend that every beginning metal caster buy this item, and every experienced caster peek at it when nobody is looking.Thumbs Up!
2-0 out of 5 stars Metalcasting
This is a big thick paperback book, that you might think goes into great detail and has a lot of descriptions. Unfortunatly, there is just some background and and brief descriptions of different things. Also, almost half the book is devoted to a glossary. If you want to find out about sand casting, "The complete Sand Casting Manual" also written by him though still not complete, is the book for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great reference
This book is a very good general reference on aluminum alloys. Some of the material is a little outdated, but for the most part it's a good background book on characteristics of most aluminum alloys, mechanicalproperties, and physical metallurgy - pretty much just what the title says. There's not a whole lot of detail on mechanical behavior, but there aresweeping generalizations (I mean that in a useful way) that are usuallyenough to get you started on whatever you are investigating. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Only if you are a complete newbie
I bought this book based on rave reviews on Amazon.com. However, I pretty disappointed. It's nicely produced and has lots of pretty good pictures, but it should be considered only a bare-bones introduction to sheet metal work for beginners. It very briefly covers all the basic topics related to making sheet metal items for car bodies, aircraft, etc. But it does not go into nearly enough detail to cover any of these topics. It's more like an overview of basic tools and techniques. You could find all this information just by surfing the web. I give it a thumbs down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Order This Book!
I found this book the very best covering creating complex metal forms out of flat metal sheet. Anyone interestaed in forming unique parts or limited series sheet metal products will find a wealth of information. Anybody interested in Aircraft construction and repair, automotive prototypes, racing cars and compond-curve fabrication will find this book of extreme interest.5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for beginner
I only have a few metal working tools in my garage but I enjoy the craft and I have spent quite a bit of time learning the tricks. This is the best book I have found on sheet metal. I picked up a lot of tricks and techniques that I have not found in any other book. Get this book before you tackle that next project, you will be glad you did! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Virgina Locksmith
I have several editions of "the Complete Book of Locks and Locksmithing."They're all good.I've learned a lot from them. But the sixth edition is by far the best.I especially like the sections on lock picking, impressioning, and selling safes.

2-0 out of 5 stars Far from a complete guide
I wasn't terribly impressed by this book - it was missing a great deal of basic information, had very incompletely coverage about such traditional skills such as picking locks, manually cutting keys, etc. Instead the author emphasises circumventing locks through alternative methods (for example by shearing off retaining bolts/screws and pulling a core). I found the coverage of large number of locks helpful for locks that I have not come in contact with, but overall I was not very impressed by this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners or the curious
I'm not sure just how this book earned such high praise from supposedly learned people.Or perhaps that's the problem: they already know enough about locks and locksmithing to have no need for the basic information that is so severely lacking in this volume.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars There are better books out there.
The book is more of a sales catalog then a handloading digest. A lot of the information is from the product sheets you would receive if you purchased the products. Little is provided on actual reloading technique. It would be better to borrow a copy or find one at a library. After you peruse it once you will not need it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Beginners
This is a good introduction to the world of reloading.Being new, I can't tell what other important facts it's missing yet, but it is a good introduction to the basic concepts.I can't picture myself referring back to this book very often, so it might be better to look to your local library or find a friend that has one lying around. The authors gives a lot of historical data of how reloading progressed, which is unnecessary, but could be interesting to some. ...
