This is a great book (aside from the one by Meriam and Kriege). Illustrations are clear, examples were clear with no steps missing. However...some problems are on the challenging side--great for training engineers, but not cool for homework without a solutions manual for the sticky (and usually even numbered) problems. Recommended nonethless!

When I receive that book, it is packed with plastic sheet. It seems brand new because it is not opened yet. But, actually it is not because there are a few pages missing at the back of the book. Those pages are assumed as "The Answer Pages" of the problems from the whole book. I had to copy those pages from one of my friends. It is mestery!!!

Maybe, I just pick up these concepts easily. I found this book very useful and extremely easy to understand. The sample problems are detailed and very easy follow. The "Solving Problems on Your Own" at the end of the each section provides an excellent review and will be a terrific reference. It is one of the best textbooks I have read.

It is a great book for pople interested in the LED device. It is disappointing in people interested in the processing to make the device. I hope Prof. Schubert will add that dimension in his next book on this topic.

Schubert (RPI) has written an excellent book on LEDs that manages to explain and derive simple quantitative models for many phenomena of current interest. He tackles issues such as resonant cavity LEDs, reliability/surface recombination issues, current spreading theory, etc. Many monographs are a compendium of results in the field with hundreds of references to papers, which are briefly discussed, and are written by several authors. In contrast, Schubert, while giving copious references, is the sole author, leading to a coherent presentation well suited to learning. There are plentiful and good figures and drawings, as well as many exercises and solutions integrated into the text.There are no back of chapter problems, but this is not really a text for lower level undergraduates.

THIS BOOK IS AWFUL!!!!!! I've never seen a textbook as terrible as this. Notice how the guy who gave it 5 stars is from MIT. I wouldnt be surprised if it Sodini himself. Nice try Charles, but your textbook is terrible.

This is the worst textbook that I have ever read. The authors make way too many assumptions in deriving their equations. Also, their approximations seem very sketchy and go without proper justification. All of these assumptions and approximations make it near impossible to understand anything, and so the student is just left with a bunch of meaningless equations. The end-of-chapter problems and excercises thus become just plug-and-chug, and they teach the student absolutely nothing about semiconductor devices. The problems are only difficult in that the student must search through the 150 or so gigantic equations in each chapter to find the correct one to plug the numbers into. No insight is gained. ...
