"Composite Airframe Structures"A must read!
This is an excellent book for layman and expert alike.Lots of manufacturing and tooling information as well as structural analysis data.I used this as the text book for an "Introduction to CompositeTooling" class that I teach.The book was published in China and doeshave some typos, but other than that, an excellent book!

The best introduction to surface science
This is a short, introductory book on surface science literally. It is very much suitable for undergraduate science and engineering students. It may sound too light for graduate students. However, if you are looking for a very simple and fundamental book, this is what you need.

Good on stochastic processes
This text provides a good, readable introduction to Markov processes, including Fokker-Planck equations, from the standpoint of typical physical examples. A weakness is that (by only mentioning and not developing Ito calculus) the book does not make it clear to the reader that most stochastic processes are nonstationary. This is important: today, we are interested in far from equilibrium dynamics, much less so in dynamics near equilibrium where the fluctuation-dissipation theorem holds. On the other hand, the standard financial math texts (Baxter and Rennie, Steele, ...) do us no service in this direction either. The book goes beyond the older reference by Wax, which is still a very good introduction to Markov processes. In any case, no existing reference treats the general case of a space-time-dependent diffusion coefficient adequately, the case of most interest for the dynamics of financial markets. Now for details of the weak spots. The best book on Statistical Mechanics
Statistical Mechanics (1&2) by Toda and Kubo is the best textbook on statistical mechanics I've read. This book has some material such as Linear response theory(in vol 2), ergotic problems(in vol 1) which is difficult tofind in other ones. I like the way the author write in linear responsepart. It is beautiful.

Does the world need yet another carbon nanotube book?
Maybe, but I'm not sure this is it. It comes VERY close though. My complaint (which prevents me from buying my own copy) is that far too many important concepts are mentioned in passing with the reader sent to the literature for the details. For $130, a bit more completeness would be nice. I realize "serious" workers in the field will call me lazy for wanting a $130 book to be as self-contained as possible. So be it... ... Read more

Good but sometimes confusing
The theory is presented good enough and basic principles are clear. Appendix on the end of each chapter are helpful in understanding what is really going on in physics view. However, A nice book about Solid State Physics
I have found this book very very nice. It is a book devoted to the explanation of Solid State Physics. The languague is clear and essential but, in the same time, complete. The main physical idea are outlined in an very impressive way. It is interesting that each chapter is self-consistentso you can use it as text-book on the subject or for some specific topicrelated to your research interest. Niu, Airframe Structural Design, 2nd Ed. - Review
Micahael Niu has filled a void that has existed since E.F. Bruhn last published his book thirty years ago.I recommend all of Niu's books, and this one is no exception.It is full of design details and recommendations that are difficult if not impossible to obtain without extensive experience in many companies.It is a book to be studied, however, not simply glanced at.The practicing designer should do well to periodically re-visit this book before undertaking a new assignment.
This book creates a vacuum

highly recommend it
Okay we followed this book for our lecture in thin films given by the first author of the book LB Freund, one of the best instructors i ever had. i will try not to be biased by his teaching skills while writing this review. i would say that its a must reference who are working in thin film area be it experimental or modeling. but i believe that you need to have a sound background atleast in continuum mechanics and elasticity to fully follow the mechanics (of deformation) part of the thin film on your own. the best thing i liked about this book is its methodical structure for e.g. deriving the basic Stoney's relation by minimizing the energy, then talk about its assumption in detail and then removing those assumptions one by one to make the relation more realistic (and offcourse more complicated). there are other things like material properties of common thin film materials used in microelectronics, topics on surface morphology etc. his writing style is very clear... again not for someone who doesnt have necessary background.

Outstanding Desktop Reference
I looked long and hard for a book this thorough.A buddy of mine had Crevelings tolerancing book and I thought that was excellent.As I finished my masters degree, I needed a thorough desktop reference that I thought represented best in class.That's exactly what this book is.Since each chapter is written by the major players in these areas, this book is much more than one authors views on the topics.Rather, it is a best in class compilation from some of the sharper folks here in the US doing dimensioning and tolerancing.Paul's chapters themselves are excellent and very thorough.His discussion on how to incorporate the geometric controls into stackup analyses is excellent.Overall, this book should be on every mechanical engineers desktop along with the ASME GD&T standard and Montgomery's books on Quality Control and Design of Experiments.Hats off to Paul and all the other authors for their excellent work!

I would say the first 1/2 is GD&T. The 2nd 1/2 covers tolerancing methods. I have learned a lot from the 2nd half. It covered a lot of new information, in clear terms. I have been through six sigma certification. This is a valuable book in my toolbox.

Thorough!
This book is a great place to learn the basics of Gallium Nitride and related semiconductors. I have been looking around for awhile for such a book and I thought I would never find such a book!
