Great text for learning and reference
As a student in materials science, this is one of best books I have ever read in materials science.The text is kept to a minimum and is easy to read.The figures are large and easy to understand, and the equations are all well explained.Just about every topic in friction and wear is given at least a cursory glance along with listings of more focused literature.This book should be read by all who deal with friction and wear as part of their work or education. ... Steel Construction Manual
The title of this book, in my mind, is a misnomer. If you're looking for a true manual of steel construction, meaning a how-to book, this isn't the book to buy. This book is centered around architecture, not down and dirty steel construction techniques. There are no methods included in the book for such things as calculating loads, yield, tensile, etc. If you want a world wide sampling of connecting means, truss designs, etc. with no dimensions in the examples then this is the book for you. In short I am very disappointed in my purchase as it doesn't suit my needs.

Ideal for architects and engineers
This book gives an overview of steel in building construction, mostly its structural uses. It differs from the Concrete and Masonry versions, which lean more towards a summary of the building codes, and the Glass version, which goes on at length about solar effects, in its more lengthy review of the engineering basics involved. (But perhaps the subject lends itself to this approach, being more specialized.) The text is also the easiest to read of all the books, more than compensating for the lack of color pictures anywhere. The middle technical section covers the subject in a very orderly way, beginning with the structural properties of small components and proceeding on to the assembled skyscraper. The last sections will leave you scratching your head unless you're a structural engineer though.

Very good elementary representations of dislocation theory.

Okay book for a niche subject
Wetting of materials at elevated temperatures is a niche subject that most engineers and scientists do not encounter.As such there is a dearth of appropriate texts.This text attempts to cover the subject with a mix of science, theory, and applications, with a handy list of references.It is a decent text; easy enough to read for the undergraduate engineering student, yet covers all the related topics.Read more

great reference
This book is a very good general reference on aluminum alloys.Some of the material is a little outdated, but for the most part it's a good background book on characteristics of most aluminum alloys, mechanicalproperties, and physical metallurgy - pretty much just what the title says. There's not a whole lot of detail on mechanical behavior, but there aresweeping generalizations (I mean that in a useful way) that are usuallyenough to get you started on whatever you are investigating. ... A treasure!
Viscoelastic properties of polymers includes a very detailed description of polymer rheology, covering both the mechanical aspects of rheometers, as well as the description of molecular basis of viscoelasticity. The book is highly recommended to everyone embarking on a career in polymer viscoelasticity. Ferry has essentially compiled all the important material relevant to polymer viscoelasticity, and hence the chapters serve as excellent reviews of respective fields. Since the last edition is well over 20 years old, many recent aspects of viscoelaticity are not present in the book (quite understandable:))! A collection of techniques for metalsmiths
Wow-this book was a treat!Are you ready to add another dimension to your jewelry making?
Metals Technic
This is a great book for advanced metalwork.It is a guide of decorative techniques and some forming of metal.I would recommend this book for anyone who is interested in learning some interesting and fun techniques for decorating and creating their jewellery.It also includes a short history of where some of the techniques evoloved.The instructions are clear and include drawings and diagrams.I wouldn't recommend this book for beginners because having some prior working knowledge of the metals is definately needed for using this book.A Great book and reference!

A good look at several metalworking methods
Each chapter in the book provides a short lesson on a different technique in decorative metalworking.There is a lot of good detailed information; enough to get you interested and started with some ideas.The chapters range from patina recipes and application methods to anticlastic raising tomaking your own tools (and several things in between!).As a beginner inthe metalworking field, I found the subject matter fairly accessible, anddefinitely tantalizing.I want to get in there and start hammering away! Lacking...
This book is terrible.Examples are very poorly written, shows example and then solution with no work to show how answer was obtained.The answer key only provides answers to even problems, and only even numbered problems that have solely numerical answers (no graphs, words, etc.)No other answer key available for purchase.You would think by the Sixth Edition the author's would have perfected a student friendly text.

Poorly written textbook
I find it hard to believe that whoever gave this book five stars has actually read it and gone through the problems. The solutions in the back are often wrong. At first, I thought I was making mistakes in solving the systems, but after I approached my instructor and solved them together, we found that a lot of the author's solutions are incorrect. The text also lacks continuity and quality examples. After going through my statics and strengths class, I have a sneaking suspicion that the author had an undergrad formulate the problems. One star is too generous.

Poorly written
Although many of the examples in the book were sufficient, there were so many mistakes that it was easy to lose confidence in the material (especially the first time through it). There were problems in some of the chapters that included concepts not covered until later chapters, and there is no student solutions manual available. Overall, I'd say thanks but no thanks. ... Cleaning 101 and Extras
I requested this book through my company's resources.As an engineer with limited experience in the critical cleaning field, I used this book as a quick reference for available cleaning technologies.In addition, I found the reference well organized, with adequate detail provided in individual sections.I have also circulated this book throughout my organization to bring junior employees "up to speed" with cleaning technologies and associated chemistry. It's the ONLY book on Critical Cleaning
In my opinion, it's not just the BEST book on critical cleaning, it's the ONLY objective, scientific book on critical cleaning, emphasizing studies, testing and data.Also includes anecdotal information with proper discussion and evaluation, putting one of its feet in the "Handbook" category.In the spacecraft technologies area, Tribble's book "Fundamental's of Contamination Control," is receiving increased attention because it, too, is the ONLY book out there in the field. But while Tribble discusses terminologies, definitions and contamination effects, it really says little about contamination CONTROL...meaning the cleaning, protection and maintenance of critical products. You spacecraft contamination control engineers know what I'm talking about."Clean with isopropyl alcohol and bag with approved film."That's all we have in this "Green" era.The Kanegsberg's book will take you well beyond that. If Tribble is on your desk, Kanegsberg should be right there next to it.

"Must have" for manufacturing people
Only thing that disappointed me is the information about plasma cleaning which is too short, not clear and said nothing about the varieties of this new and exciting technology.Read more
