Definitive reference book
Everything you ever wanted to know - and more - about clays and glazes.If you just want a quick introduction to the topic, you should skip this book.If you want a well-written, very thorough, and very clear explanation of basic ceramic principles, this is it.If you want to go even further, delving into the intricate complexities of specific clay and glaze formulations, that's all here too.

this book is quite informative ofclays, glazes, colorants, temperatures and many little details that a ceramicists needs in order to experiment and produce different effects with various materials.this books is very helpful and easy to read..

Average...but can find same on internet
I was disappointed in this book as most of what is in it, you can find on the internet, and usually better information.It will make a pretty edition to my pottery library but I had hoped for more.

Alternative Firing Techniques
What a wonderful book.As a ceramic sculptor, I appreciate the Raku, Pit, Barrel and Saggar firing methods.It gives one enough of the technical details of the how-to's of each of the firing methods (and how to build a raku kiln, and barrel and pit kilns) to get one started.It also "fires" up one's imagination to expand the contents of the book and to push your work to another level.This book presents beautiful examples of what "Alternative Firing Techniques" can produce.

Practicing the craft....
Generally, I collect ceramics, I don't make them anymore. I was never very adept with the potting wheel where my projects too often became lost in space, but I used to make very nice ceramics. In the process of dabbling with molds, slip and glaze I wondered about other aspects of the craft and over the years I have read and studied the subject informally. This wonderful book is a valuable resource whether you are starting out and want to experiment with different clay projects or want to refresh your memory. Definitely one to have.
This book has a wonderful overview of ceramics for the studio potter.It has wealth of useful information for all skill levels and is one of the best reference books that I have in my collection.Top artists in thefield are represented with lotsof pictures and glaze recipes. Ages like fine wine!
Having received a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, I have read most, if not all, of the required reading at the graduate and undergraduate levels.This book is one of a few that remain on my bookshelf and that I continually refer to.
Better than stock
This is one of classic textbooks in materials science courses throughout the US.Used and taught in ceramics classes at both the undergrad and grad level, it covers all the major topics in the field: thermodynamics, crystal structures and defects, different properties of ceramics such as superconduction, piezoelectricity, ferromagnetism, etc...Each chapter includes a few homework problems that can be worked out by hand.
The Ceramics Bible
This is a tour-de-force textbook that covers the fundamental science behind ceramics and glass.And to the extent that the same energy equations (for kinetics, thermodynamics, stress and strain, defects, light transmission, grain boundaries, etc) apply to other inorganic materials, this book is an understandable reference for them too.It was the bible at MIT for Ceramics Mat Sci BS and MS students.Well indexed, a usable teaching and reference book. ... A Very informative book.
This book is jam packed with pottery marks, a great value for the price.I had no idea that there were so many. It is extremely informative, giving a brief history, manufacture dates and much more information for each company listed. I would definately recommend this to anyone with an interest in collecting or selling pottery.

Extensive?BUT Not Easy to Use!
This book has a LOT of information! When you do find what you are trying to research there is extensive information about the company. HOWEVER, the book is not indexed well. The index is down right skimpy. When trying to look-up certain words or wording found in a mark there is no reference to these things in the index. So a tedious process of looking through each page many times insues. And So It Was Done
Years ago I hunted high and low for a book on American ceramic wares, agenre who's time I saw closing fast. It was suggested once that I writeone. I am glad I didn't take the challenge as my work would surly havepaled severely in contrast to this marvelous, all inclusive work.LoisLehner gives the subject the depth, scope and respect it deserves. Excellent casting and pate de verre resource
This is the best book I have seen for anyone who wants to learn the basics of glass casting and pate de verre using a kiln. It's more focused thanLundstrom's 3rd book, better written, with more coherent step-by-stepinstructions and lots of suggestions that will be useful to both the noviceand the more experienced kiln caster.Highly recommended. Incredible Book!
This book was awesome.It had everyhing I needed to know to get started with pate de vere.It was the only book I could find which talked about safety in my workshop.I liked it because it was not the visual flufffound in all the other books.

Sea Glass Chronicles
Nice book with some pretty pictures but does not really contain much useful information about sea glass. The book "Pure Sea Glass: Discovering Nature's Vanishing Gems" contains much more information about the possible origins of sea glass for the novice collector.

Glass from the Past
What a wonderful book.The photography is great and the information on sea glass, the history and hunting, of this hobby is fantastic.Through this book I've interested both my daughter and husband in the searching of sea glass. Now we all comb the beaches of Southwestern Wisconsin (Lake Michigan)in search of a prize.I leave this book on my coffe table and even had my daughter's friends (20years and older) go out looking.
