Sand Casting condensed
I'm using this book as a textbook for my metal casting class. There is much more to learn about casting than this book covers but it's still a great introduction to the basics of sandcasting.

Even easier than he makes it seem
This is Book 1 of a seven book series.I've only completed this one so far and it was even easier than I thought it would be.Gingery is obviously a hands-on type person and, while very knowledgeable, not very clear in some of his instructions and in the overall structure of the book.For instance, it took me two tries to fire the lid of my furnace because the difference between "curing" and "vitrifying" were not made sufficiently clear (fortunately it was just a matter of crumbling the first try up and adding more water).He also talks several times about "hair dryer hoses" and it took me a couple weeks to realize he was talking about an obsolete type of dryer that was available when he first wrote the book, back in the early 80s. Almost perfect book for beginner
This is a wonderful book that is the first in the "Build a Metal Working Shop From Scrap" series. It goes over basic foundry processes and materials and finally the building and operation of a Charcoal fired furnace for melting aluminum. I built a furnace out of a garbage can from this book, but I haven't fired it yet. Unfortunately, the charcoal burns with a lot of smoke and there are alot of ashes left over when you are done. This is a keeper!
This book along with, "The Gun Digest Book of Exploded Gun Drawings" was given as a gift to my son who, with his brother, is a novice hunter, with a beginning interest in gunsmithing. They have acquired a number of shot guns and rifles and found this book matched their needs exactly. They found this book fascinating and were so excited. Clear, helpful, detailed and would appear to be valuable for both the beginner and serious firearm enthusiasts. They have put it to practical use - so easy to use! These books have not been relegated to the library or reference shelf yet and as reluctant as I am to say it, they remain in the bathroom, so are read and reviewed almost daily and I don't see that changing anytime soon. They can't say enough good things about the book -
Good Shotgun reading
Yet another good reading for the beginner, or for someone who specifically onws one of the shotguns in the book.As I have said in another review, I would like to see Gun Digest publish another volume with newer production shotguns in addition to this book.All in all, very good, worth reading.

This reference book contained the information I was looking for and will be a book that I can rely on for many years. The only problem I found was that some pages were almost to dark to see breakdown components. A better breakdown sequence would be helpful. The Perfect Reference
I am a plant metallurgist for a company and I constantly use this book to look at properties for various materials.The book is relatively small (unlike ASM books) and contains loads of hard to find information.

More useful data than a dozen handbooks

ok, not great
Used this book for a graduate level class on mechanics of materials.I found that it was ok, but very concise and hard to understand at times.I was usually able to figure out solutions to the problems from reading the chapters but I really had to dig. Definatly could have been better written but a good professor will make up for the deficiencies of the text.

Very reader un-friendly
This book is perhaps the only text book in the market which deals with this particular subject. This is perhaps the only reason why the book is still being sold. The book is very difficult to understand. The language is often cryptic and the most critical mathematical steps are ommitted during derivations which makes this book practically useless. However, if you are already familiar with the principles of Advanced Solid Mechanics, you may find this book relatively useful. Until someone writes a better book, I guess we are stuck with this.

As a university professor, I chose this book for a graduate course because it seemed to cover the same topics that I wanted to cover.Read more

Great book about Poly
This is the essential book about poly if your life, like mine, revolves entirely around poly. This well-written book contains basic information on the deposition, film properties, and electrical characteristics of poly-Si, as well as the techniques used to analyze poly-Si. The references are invaluable.There has been substantial development on the application of poly, like logic gate electrode, and on single-wafer deposition since this book was published, but I would not start reading the latest literature without reading Kamins first. I wish every step in the chip manufacturing process had as thurough a treatment as poly-Si gets here. ... Read more
