5-0 out of 5 stars Nondestructive Evaluation 101 and why I like it so much!
It takes a village to raze a barn, and Mr. Shull proves it!I've be destroying things for the majority of my life and Mr. Shulls' techniques have been invaluable.I almost broke my keyboard while typing this review.Luckily his book is holding up half my computer table. The lush illustrations remind me of a warm, wet forest caught between two antlers.I couldn't remember. This story provides the impetus for supplying every 4-year old with razor/hammer/screwdrivers for building a special place beyond the magic world of the abandoned refrigerator.Aboriginally speaking, Nondestructive Evaluation: Theory, Techniques, and Applications is worth every penny of... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good text book
This book approaches the subject from a scientific point of view rather than an industrial one, which is typical of such a book. The discussions are based on research literature published by well known people in the field of cemented carbides. This book will be helpful for advanced students, and researchers. However, some more data on commercial brands of cemented carbides (a more elaborate discussion in Chapter 14, and 16 on how to select grades for a particular application) would make it better.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent view of materials in practice
This text gives an introduction to the properties and traits of materials as they will be used in manufacturing and the field. As a mechanical engineer, it was a pleasure to see the equipment and the methods of testing. This book gives a descriptive approach to the subject, which I feel packs a lot more punch than the quantitative methods most materials science coursework gives. The author clearly loves his subject, as shown in the incredible research and documentation he has assembled. An excellent source for self-study!

1-0 out of 5 stars modern welding "paperback" version
I purchased Modern Welding- the "paperback" version, used off of Amazon, however, when it arrived today I was dismayed to discover that the "paperback" edtion is a Lab Manual, that is, a quiz that accompanies the text book.Well, I am out some cash and back at square one- I still need a copy of Modern Welding, too bad Amzon did not state that there is no Paperback version of Modern Welding.

5-0 out of 5 stars Want to be a better welder? You NEED this book.
Get started SAFELY in any type of welding: Gas, Mig, Tig, or Stick.Use this book to fill in any gaps in basic formal training (such as from a local Community College, which is highly recommended for learning proper techniques) or knowledge. The book is filled with outstandingly detailed illustrations, tables and pictures that cover the different machine particulars, proper set ups and hand movement techniques that will allow anyone to produce consistantly strong welds on just about any material. Check it out: this book has so much information, and is layed out in such a way that it is easily worth twice the asking price! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This book leaves something to be desired
I have been reading this book for a class. I must say that this book is not as detailed as I would like it to be. I am new to the study of locksmithing. I have worked a lot with locks and have always wanted to learn more. I read this book from cover to cover and found it very informative. 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a best one.
Cold formed steel is cheap and widely supply in some country. By using the code in this book, I can reduce so much material cost from expensive imported wide flange into a self made double I beam by using 2 C light lip. This book is practical can be use in real construction by following detailed example.5-0 out of 5 stars Extensive discussion on physical behavior of steel members
Writen as a text book, this work looks at in particular the behavior of cold formed steel members. It gives complete and useful information regarding the strength of thin elements common to cold formed steel and a guide to design. The information is also very applicable to larger hot rolled steel member design in that it illustrates what design assumptions are taken for granted when designing with thicker members. Subjects included are flexural and compression members, cylindrical tubular members, connections, diaphragms, shell roofs structures, corrugated sheet, and composite design.Overall a very useful resource. ... I still remember vividly the experience of reading, and being greatly impressed by, the first edition of this book when I was a PhD student at Swansea in the late 1980's.It was the first book of its kind, despite themany available texts on groundwater flow in porous media. Even today, therestill exists no other book which covers all the mechanical and numericalaspects of flow in deforming porous media in such detail.
