Excellent book for beginners and pros
This is an excellent book. Very well written and with very explicit examples for a beginner or a pro.
Strength of Materials
I found the book to be very useful in that it summarizes my class textbook and offers many worked out example problems. I have since purchased Schaum's for my other classes and I find them equally useful

Well written book
I have already finished courses in strength of materials etc., and am using this book as a reference, instead of those voluminous handbooks. The book is very well written and William Nash has an excellent, straightforward way of putting forth the key points. The book has all theinformation you might need for a first course in strength of materials. Ialso use this book in conjunction with a finite element text to give me thetheoretical values for comparison. Incomparable. A work entitled to great respect.
This author wrote a book on this subject on or about 1971 and I was somewhat disappointed in that edition at that time. This book is another world. You would not think this was the same writer. It may have taken thirty years or so but it was well worth the wait. I do not think there is another book available on this subject that caneven begin to compare with this creation.Read more

Great book for beginners
This book is great for newbies to Metal casting, it provides great details in creating molds, furnaces, and the do's and don'ts.

This text is great for the sand molder.There is a depth of knowledge that few others can illustrate in a clear manner.Also notable is the glossary of casting terms that takes up the last half of the book with drawings and clear language.I would recommend that every beginning metal caster buy this item, and every experienced caster peek at it when nobody is looking.Thumbs Up!
Metalcasting
This is a big thick paperback book, that you might think goes into great detail and has a lot of descriptions. Unfortunatly, there is just some background and and brief descriptions of different things. Also, almost half the book is devoted to a glossary. If you want to find out about sand casting, "The complete Sand Casting Manual" also written by him though still not complete, is the book for you. ... Read more

great reference
This book is a very good general reference on aluminum alloys.Some of the material is a little outdated, but for the most part it's a good background book on characteristics of most aluminum alloys, mechanicalproperties, and physical metallurgy - pretty much just what the title says. There's not a whole lot of detail on mechanical behavior, but there aresweeping generalizations (I mean that in a useful way) that are usuallyenough to get you started on whatever you are investigating. ... Lacking...
This book is terrible.Examples are very poorly written, shows example and then solution with no work to show how answer was obtained.The answer key only provides answers to even problems, and only even numbered problems that have solely numerical answers (no graphs, words, etc.)No other answer key available for purchase.You would think by the Sixth Edition the author's would have perfected a student friendly text.

Poorly written textbook
I find it hard to believe that whoever gave this book five stars has actually read it and gone through the problems. The solutions in the back are often wrong. At first, I thought I was making mistakes in solving the systems, but after I approached my instructor and solved them together, we found that a lot of the author's solutions are incorrect. The text also lacks continuity and quality examples. After going through my statics and strengths class, I have a sneaking suspicion that the author had an undergrad formulate the problems. One star is too generous.

Poorly written
Although many of the examples in the book were sufficient, there were so many mistakes that it was easy to lose confidence in the material (especially the first time through it). There were problems in some of the chapters that included concepts not covered until later chapters, and there is no student solutions manual available. Overall, I'd say thanks but no thanks. ... Superbly Simple!
This book is written in a simplistic, easy to follow way.It is a delight to read and an invaluable reference to the piping designer. If you do CAD work then use the Hercule Design library with this book and you will be able to achieve anything!

Great technical depth and detail, yet very easy and simple t
This was the recommended textbook for my undergraduate program in civil engineering in Pakistan for the course titled, guess what "Properties of Concrete".I am now a practising water and wastewater engineer,and my main focus is not concrete.However, I have very good memories ofthe ease with which I could follow the text even at the undergraduatelevel, and also how the book was comprehensive enough to give almost allthe answers as far as I was concerned.Excellent book, and very wellwritten.

Only if you are a complete newbie
I bought this book based on rave reviews on Amazon.com. However, I pretty disappointed. It's nicely produced and has lots of pretty good pictures, but it should be considered only a bare-bones introduction to sheet metal work for beginners. It very briefly covers all the basic topics related to making sheet metal items for car bodies, aircraft, etc. But it does not go into nearly enough detail to cover any of these topics. It's more like an overview of basic tools and techniques. You could find all this information just by surfing the web. I give it a thumbs down.

I found this book the very best covering creating complex metal forms out of flat metal sheet. Anyone interestaed in forming unique parts or limited series sheet metal products will find a wealth of information.
