5-0 out of 5 stars A holistic approach to technology innovation
Why do technology initiatives fail? Everyone in the company has an answer, but the IT personnel in charge of implementing the new systems are probably closest to the mark. Unfortunately, most of our great engineers are not great communicators. Mark Dangelo is the exception. His experience is impressive. His command of the language is quite sufficient to provide us with a step-by-step guidebook for making innovation work in the American enterprise. Filled with real world examples, descriptive graphics, checklists and do-it-yourself assessments, this book is destined for the must-read list for all executives charged with changing their organizations. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding addition to the field of restaurant management
Ninemeier and Hayes' book does an excellent job of providing the detailed information managers need to profitably operate a restaurant, but does it in a very simple, highly readable manner. I believe students will find the book to be most enjoyable. As an Instructor, I really like the ease in which my students will learn and retain the information. I think it is absolutely the best text on the subject and its recent copyright means it is also the most up-to-date. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for those interested in the topic
Shapiros book is really an interesting introduction to modeling the Supply Chain. After an easy to follow overview on the tools: Linear Programming (Simplex) and Mixed Integer Programming (with an appendix over the Branch and Bound method), these fundamentals are applied to strategic and tactical issues related to modeling the SC. Some actual applications together with their outcomes make examples more credible and dowm to earth. Examples run on excels solver are strightforward and useful to get a basic handle on the topic.4-0 out of 5 stars Práctico, Nivel Táctico - Operativo, Muy Útil

5-0 out of 5 stars You have NO EXCUSE not to get it -period!
This book is about math-modeling of Supply Chain Management(SCM). While only few analytical SCM books in market, this book is still different. The presentation of math-modeling does not forbid your curiousity in model by giving a proof, theory, lemma; this book shows you the modeling method to capture the complex SCM problem. I like this book over Simchi-Levi (logic of logistics) for its description, practical aspect and future direction. Also, I prefer this book over Chopra (SCM) and Simchi-levi (SCM) for its higher and better modeling issues. This book takes care the readers well since the solution technique is also given, e.g., Linear Programming, Mixed Integer Programming, Unified Optimization, even simulation. While this book is more on quantitative, the interaction between qualitative and quantitative is given -both basic and advanced level. Suggestion to adapt modeling technique to organization is well presented also. The information technology (IT) section covers most SCM issues as well as the implementation and database for SCM.If you're in this area (either academia or practitioner), you have NO EXCUSE not to get this book seriously. For its uniqueness, this book is not supplementary or option, but it's a requirement for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A "howto" book for CEOs - Beverly T. Bortz, C.P.M., Material Control Manager, Powerex, Inc.
Straight to the Bottom Line is an actual "how to" book for CEOs as well as a great tool for management to sell the value of Purchasing / Supply Chain to the CEO's.This book is a "must have" for the corporate library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Supply Chain Management in a "Flat" World
In today's world where "outsourcing" and a "flat" world are becoming commonplace, it is essential that companies recognize the strategic nature of their procurement and supply organizations and taylor them to manage their external/purchased assets. This book provides examples of supply chain management experiences, both good and bad, and practical tools for implementing effective supply chain management processes. An important book for supply chain specialists, it also should be read by every CEO, CFO and COO, so that they can take benefit from supply chain management in their companies, before they are confronted by competitors who have preempted them in the implementaton of modern supply chain management practices.
5-0 out of 5 stars Complexity Made Easy
Straight to the Bottom Line explains well to the layman why Western companies need a new strategy to cope with the massive shift to outsourcing and Asian manufacturers.I particularly enjoyed the chapter ("A Tale of Two Spenders") describing the lack of collaboration in the American automotive industry in the past 15 years and how that approach impacted Detroit's inability to establish an electronic communications and transactions platform (Covisint). It's a good business book. Very clearly written. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on ISO 9000

5-0 out of 5 stars ISO9001 deeply explained
If you consider ISO9001 more than a paper on the wall then you should read this book. The author tells you what to do rather than a detailed prescription of how to do it. But more important he explains the reason of each ISO9001 requirement. This helps anybody that works with this standard to think about what the rational behind and how does this fit in each business. 5-0 out of 5 stars ISO 9000 Quality Systems Handbook 4th Edition - David Hoyle
With the introduction of the ISO 9001:2000 standard, a number of publications offering ideas, advice and assistance to anyone who have been charged with implementing quality systems, have made their appearance on the bookshelves. The ISO 9000 Quality Systems Handbook 4th Edition, by David Hoyle is one of the best I have read on this subject. In this 4th edition, David analyzes each section, clause and requirement of the ISO 9001:2000 standard in detail.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Land Power Military Operations Research
Jaiswal provides the most recent land power-focused military operations research volume. He provides a basic survey of the field, beginning with a very brief discussion of the origins of OR in the military. His topics include search and detection, military simulation, cost effectiveness analysis, optimization, the Analytic Hierarchy Process, Lanchester equations, and a quantified approach to intelligence analysis. The reader should be aware that his coverage of various specific military simulation models is a bit dated, as one should expect in a book, and limited in scope.Beyond that topic, his treatment is broad and therefore less sensitive to the passage of time. The book is a survey, so depth of treatment is not present. But it fills the intended role of pulling together disparate topics of land-based military OR.It also provides some perspective on non NATO defense issues. It must be challenging to decide what to exclude, but surprisingly there is no coverage of network flows, queuing theory, decision analysis, or game theory which have clear military applications. The focus is also on operations rather than the logistics of military analysis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Only Text on Military OR
This book is by far the only book that comprehensively deals with Military Operations Research (MOR). The OR/SA field despite its origins in Military Operations has not seen as many books and texts as the business OR or Theory of OR. This can be attributed to the confidential nature of work the practitioners of MOR carry out.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This book was a big help
Thanks for the help!We have been doing a lot of research on the subject of Preventive Maintenance Scheduling. This gave us some good insight. Good stuff.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction
I am half-way through this book and realize that I have used Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) for years. This was the approach we used because of HAZOP studies. If you look at the methodology, they are the same. It is an excellent book for first-pass economics of preventive maintenance (PM). Through numerous examples, he shows when to PM, when you are spending too much for PM, and when to just run the damn thing 'til it breaks. As I said, it is a great introduction. I have picked up Doc Palmer's book and can see I would be lost without preparation. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book

5-0 out of 5 stars Toward A Compassionate Corporation
Corporate social responsibility (CSR)-how well businesses behave in the marketplace as citizens and what they contribute, beyond how they actually run their businesses-has been on the corporate agenda for several decades, and served as a proactive way for corporations to demonstrate core `values' beyond the profit incentive. Some companies, such banking institutions, came to table reluctantly, and only after being coerced by the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act, which mandated that banks increase lending broadly in inner-city (and often impoverished) communities where they did business. Other international companies, such as Anita Ruddick's worldwide chain, The Body Shop, took it upon themselves to aggressively do business in a principled, values-defined way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the only book detailed book about the theme
Following Lean Assembly Lean Logistics is a natural continuation. The style is the same and the information as valuable as Lean Assembly. A must have for any Kaizen and Lean implementer. Lots of details and usefull information.

5-0 out of 5 stars At last, a practical, easy-to-read Logistics book
Michel's obvious hands-on experience and his exceptionally clear writing style makes this book a joy to read as well as an excellent reference resource. Every aspect of logistics from the supplier to the end customer is covered in detail with a strong focus on Lean. The author's use of real life examples and his wonderful graphics makes this book stand out.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and real solutions for real challenges
Lean Thinking originated from TPS and is well spread in the manufacturing world, with a lot of information on how to improve manufacturing. For logistics however, many Lean tools don't apply; on the other hand there are aspects more specific to logistics, which are not well addressed by the manufacturing-oriented Lean literature.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better hands-on experience
You can find a lot of written stuff about RFID on the Internet for free. When you try playing with the real readers and tags and try to write your own RFID application it becomes clear that the practice is far behind the theory. A narrow (and inexpensive) shortcut for matching both is so called "PIRF" (platform independent radio frequency API). It is Java based and runs on both Windows and Linux platforms. The Lite version comes with some ofTI developers Kits. There are some examples on how to use it and it works fine with a number of RFID readers (mostly TI ). Anyways, it is useful for you first clash with RFID to have it on your side.

4-0 out of 5 stars discusses business issues; especially concerning privacy
As Sun gropes around for a next Big Thing in technology, this book tries to suggest that RFID might be it. The text is written at a management level of discussion. You do not need to be in IT hardware or software to benefit from the book's explanations.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
The information presented in this book is very basic and entry level for those who have not a clue about RFID. All information are available almost every where on the internet, they just gathered them in a book form. The book explains stuff that every body knows when implementing a technical project, likeselecting vendors, implementing projects, etc.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best in my personal reference library
This is one of a handful of books on performance metrics I recommend to peers and clients. The author starts with one of the most cogent set of reasons for measuring performance that I've read. These reasons are compelling, reinforced with realistic examples, and clearly articulated. He then briefly discusses the art and science of measurement, and associated standards, techniques and methods. I especially liked his "Measuring the Unmeasurable" advice, which knocks down mental barriers and shows how you can, indeed, measure indicators that you may think are unmeasurable.4-0 out of 5 stars Useful guide
The book features procedures for identifying what to measure and specific steps readers can take to determine what to measure. It's a useful guide for figuring out what to measure for a specific organizational need, but requires some knowledge of measurement terminology. While I found it a useful guide as a performance and scorecard consultant, some of my clients found it a bit daunting. Good models and examples throughout.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent approach for those who wish to start OPM
Will Kaydos did actually a very good work. This book addresses to top management officers who wish to change to a more customer orientated approach and implement Performance Measurement in every aspect of their business. Well structured and easy to read with significant information on effective management. There are no equations or weird stuff in this book, because the author wishes to explain the core of this subject: how to implement performance measurementeverywhere. This is a great book for industrial engineers, CEO's, Sales Managers, HR managers, Quality assurance officers and anyone involving with performance. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not use!
It is full of errors. The explanations are difficult to follow. There are few highlights in the text which makes scanning for a quick review impossible. There is no chapter summary. The book presumes a thourough knowledge of Excel which many students do not have. Stay away!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as described
Previous reviews inspired me for the purchase. This book is NOT MBA material. I would rate it at Business 101 book. Most spreadsheet models are basically the same using the SOLVER function in excel. There are better tutorials online.

5-0 out of 5 stars Management Science made understandable
By incorporating Microsoft Excel spreadsheet examples of the problems, the authors have managed to make self-study management science possible. I'm absolutely convinced this is the best way to learn MS.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Developed Characters, Thin Plot
If you buy this book expecting a corporate thriller, filled with larger-than-life characters and exciting tales of industrial espionage, you will be disappointed.TPM Manager is a tiresome main character---imagine a dumbed-down, cliche-filled John Galt from "Atlas Shrugged."Many times I shouted:Shut the F--- up! as I read TPM Manager spew drivel on the wonders of TPM. Initially, I wondered if Suzuki's book was purely ironic.Alas, the author really believes this nonsense. Here's some free advice:save the money, skip the reorg, don't hire the consultant, refrain from making people "take ownership" over a language that no one really takes seriously and instead show re-runs of the "Love Boat" once a week.It is guaranteed to make your employees run back to their cubicles and do some work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the BIBLE of TPM
Three years ago I used to work for a corporation that used absorbed the TPM (Total Prodictive Maintenance) methodology and made it its own with certain in-house touches. 5-0 out of 5 stars TPM in Process Industries
I have worked widely using TPM as a practitioner and a consultant. For me this work represents the "bible" that I use to base my work from. The tools apply equally well to high speed lines as well as to processequipment. ... Read more
