There may be useful information in this text, but it's hard to trust anything that's so poorly written.
Very Good.
This is an excellent text for an engineering economics class. It concisely explains and demonstrates basic ideas and financial concepts in a logical manner. The only draw back I could detect was the author's nomemclature, which he introduces at the first of the text. If you don't memorize it early on, it becomes difficult to understand quickly. The professor who taught the Engineering Economics class I took was none other than Chan Park himself (guess what the required text was!). ... Read more

Most impressive extension of the term
The term financial engineering is appearing increasingly in the title of various works. What it actually means remains nebulous, for even natural sciences and engineering remain irresolvable at their respective cores. This is evidently addressing another boon of the digital age, where equations and approximations can be done both automatically, and with extreme rapidity. It is only natural for the advantages of this to trickle into research of finance and economics, only now it is becoming a steady stream, and, with the inclusion of this work, a most sound one at that. Helped me earn an A
I don't understand where all of the negative reviews are coming from.The 6th edition of this textbook was used in my Financial Aspects of Engineering class my final semester.Officially it is a 400 level course, but in reality it is more like a 200 level course.I literally skipped half of the lectures (remember, it was my final semester) and still earned an A in the class.I think grades were based on a bell curve like most engineering courses, so it's not like everyone received an A.Since I missed so many lectures, I had to rely very heavily on the textbook to learn the material.
"How to make a good student want to drop out of college"
As someone who loves to learn, this is the most incomplete, illogically written textbook I've ever encountered. As a disclaimer, usually I have better things to do than review books online for complete strangers, but thankfully I can vent here, or I may have been compelled to use it to shatter my living room window, which wouldn't be good.
Horrible Book

this was an average book on the subject with good sample problems. a good resource for a student

Good supplement of an engineering economics book
This is a good compendium of pills and problems useful for practicing and for quick reviewing engineering economics concepts. It does not, however, stands alone as a book on the subject because it lacks unity and completeness in its treatment. The book was helpful for me to revisit some points and to clarify a few others, and I think that was the main purpose of the authors. For the price it is a very good deal.

Provides the best examples in the industry
This book presents clear examples of the critical practices of project management. Ursula makes complex work breakdown structure (WBS) and scheduling techniques easy. Her experience as a practitioner and instructor shines through this work. If you want a dry, academic book...go elsewhere. This is a dynamic presentation of important cost and scheduling practices for those of us who really need to apply them on projects. There is no other book out there in its class.

Excellent Concepts
While there is no disagreeing that this book is written at an advanced level, it does clearly present key concepts that are often difficult to understand apart from each other.I used a newer version of this book in Merino's class, and it really is the best book in its class. This book does not live up to its name!
Having used the book in the course taught by Merino, I have noticed that the examples given at the end of each chapter are erroneous in nature.Many a time, I have found that the book lacks the basic elements of engineering economics.This book is definitely not for undergraduates. ... Read more

The Source on Engineering Economic Analysis
This book came highly recommended by an old professor and friend: John Eastman. John taught from this text for 5 or so years and corrected a few of the minor mistakes in the text. Although the problems are dated and it is generally used as a text for civil engineers, it is an outstanding text for comparing options. It begins in the basics, specifically developing in the student an understanding of the graphics. These graphics are an excellent tool to comprehending more advanced concepts of comparisons between options. Later as the text progresses, the author presents methods for handling inflation and depression and other difficult concepts. There are no flashy solutions here. The text is methodical and slow with a great number of problems and examples. As a chemical engineer, I found this to be an excellent text, even for the experienced professional looking for quick answers. You need this text on your shelf because there are few really good textbooks on economics for engineers
Miserable
This book is very difficult to follow. The format makes learning the material extremely difficult and the few examples they give are not very helpful. It is a great struggle to try and grasp the relatively easy concepts the way this book presents these concepts. ... Read more

Don't buy this book...get "Math into Latex" instead
This is basically just a subset of Gratzer's larger book. Not to say this book isn't good, but it's worth spending a few extra dollars to get the complete book.

Good Start
I found LaTeX produces documents with a quality that is at least an order of magnitude greater than MS Word. This book gave me a fine start and helped in discovering that realization.

Definitely very helpful booklet for starting up in LaTeX and this book teaches you how to write LaTeX document in very efficient and neat way, while the book is less than 100 pages (excluding appendixes and indexes)!!Read more

many practical details for estimating
The book is now 11 years old, but scarcely outdated. The authors write for an engineering manager, who has to estimate the myriad costs in a project. The fundamentals are still unchanged, needless to say. The first chapter gives a recap of these fundamentals. Including estimating labour and materials. And then being able to factor in an overhead for administrative costs.
