Wow !
Informal is an extraordinary work. I guess the reason why it's so shocking is that the content of the book is not like those static structural forms or solutions that we see in structural class. The case studies that Balmond brings to the table are very recent and genuine by star architects. I guess I was shocked by the fact that all these architects are not structurally oriented architects such as Foster/ Piano/ Calatrava/ Hopkins. Rather, they are theoretically approaching architects such as Koolhaas/ Liebskind; or, tectonically approaching architects such as Siza. I never thought projects by them had anything to do with structural or mathmatical innovation. Reading Informal, one can easily detect where the originality lie in each project. Sometimes it's in the irregularity of geometry or sometimes it's in mathmatical mystery. Balmond contends that they are all in mother nature. Unlike a formal structural engineering (e.g. Peter Rice) Balmond's originality comes from the informal networks. In High-tech, the ingenuity of structural entity was condensed into joinery. Informal networks is much more diverse and complex than that. It is against the conventional formal structural idea of hierarchy/center/symmetry. Balmond argues, formal approach is defining a problem in a "fixed" or "contained" manner; hence, leading to a same old idea of solution/ detailing. In Informal, Balmond redefines it in a more active/dynamic geometry, to bring about unexpected realities. Sometimes through structural innovation and sometimes through special surface treatment, Balmond promoted and realized the ideas of star architects. Overall, he has freed architecture from the "Cartesian Cage".

Good Intro to Vehicle Dynamics
Most dynamics books are kinda hard to read or dont give adequate examples/problems.I found this book to be useful and easy to read.It covers nearly every topic of the automobile from tires to ride and handling, braking conditions and aerodynamics.All pretty concise but worthwhile.The $100 or so will definitely be worth it.Makes a great reference book for any basic auto dynamics needs.

Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics
Thomas Gillespie is able to explain the fundamental principles of vehicle dynamics in his book.For those new to the subject of vehicle dynamics, this work will lay the foundation for more advanced reading.Those with science, math and engineering degrees, or those familiar with technical literature, will find the reading easy to understand in comparison to some other works.This allows the reader to focus their attention on understanding the "big picture," and not getting lost in particular formulae.However, for those doing research in the field or pursuing this as a career, there are more advanced texts available.

Moisture Control Handbook review
This book is great for explaining to our clients the challeges they are having, the way to prevent and a great picture how it should have been done.
An excellent practical reference

Not bad as a reference
This books deals with all kinds of manipulators. It has a good amount of math but looks not enough and not easy to understand (I did not go into the math details). I think this book would be a good reference in your library where it has a good amount of advanced information about manipulators.

a branch of applied maths
For decades, physics and engineering undergraduates have used texts on classical mechanics that often contained what some students might consider to be abstruse ideas, with little everyday usage. But this book on robotics is a worthy rejoinder. It can be regarded as an advanced text in classical mechanics.

So much information in such a small space. Best of its Kind.
Belden is the king of cables and Stephen Lampen is a Belden Kingpin. This book is one-of-a-kind and is a must for anyone working with, or even remotely interested in audio, video, data and/or CATV cabling. It is essential, fundamental knowledge about using cables.
Not for the novis.
I purchased this product with a novis knowledge of electronics. I could not understand one page. If you are a novis this is not the book for you.

A First Rate Guide
Within its sphere of discussion, this is the best reference manual of its type. There is a lot not here concerning RF and power, but it's not an RF or power book. Airport planner and engineer's viewpoint - updated
The best of its kind for the technical detail. We have most of the other airport and terminal design books on the bookshelf (up to 2005 publication date), but every time we come back to using Horonjeff for the serious design ofnew airports and extensions. It is also good for layout design by theengineer for terminals - although the architects may want more books. But there is another book - the 2003 book titled Airport Systems - Planning, Design and Management by Richard de Neufville and Amedeo Odoni - that will become the definitive text on airport design for the first part of the 21st century. So you'll need both, especially if you have to deal with the complexity of systems and stakeholders that are part of medium to large size airports.

Skimming the Surface
This book is a very general view from a very British perspective.I don't think it belongs in Embry-Riddle's graduate programs because it does not meet the needs of experienced professionals.As an undergraduate overview of the systems design process, it is good.However, the author does not even touch helicopters, seaplanes, or lighter-than-air-technology.So, the book would be more aptly named "Introduction to Airplane Design."
No substance
I consider this book to be a rough draft for a much larger book to come (I hope).The author just skims lightly through vast numbers of subjects, so that anyone who knows anything about airplanes will learn nothing new.Yet it isn't written on a basic enough level to have much to offer someone who knows nothing. Excellent Introduction
This book is easy to read and covers most topics in a logical easy to follow format. I am a architect and needed a good starting point for understanding cabling installation and various types of low voltage wiring systems (voice, data, CCTV, security). The author emphasizes that this book is meant for practical application, but he does provides good coverage of basic theories without being like an engineering textbook. The discussion of how fiber-optics are transmitted was very helpful. If one already knows the basics, this book may not be useful but I found it a good overview of the subject.

Data, Voice, and Video Cabling
Very dissappointing.The video cabling section didn't discusssplitters, taps, attenuators, modulators,signal loss and many other areas of video installation.The other sections were somewhat better but also lacking in depth.I've learned more from reading the appendixes in the Leviton Catalog.

Excellently Writtten
I found this book to be written in a way that can be understood easily by the common "Joe". I've read many books on this subject and found that I wish I would have started with this one to begin with. This book is a table of contents for further reading.
This is a great first book on the subject of reliability.Every reliability engineer should have a copy as well as engineering managers concerned about warranty costs.But the other reviewers wrote much the same.I have used this book even further.
Great introduction to the subject
For students and engineers starting in the reliability field, this is a really good first book to have on your shelf.It covers most of the basic concepts in way that is easy to read and understand, at a reasonable price.

A good introduction with antiquated economics
RAILROAD ENGINEERING is somewhat pricey for a simple update of a book originally published in the early 1950's.A good introduction to the engineering aspects of railroading but with grossly obsolete economics and operating concepts.This critic, a onetime trackman on the Erie Lackawanna (Local 1502 MOW Employees) and now licensed professional engineer, found the author's suggestion to hire vagrants as gandy dancers somewhat amusing. pity it's not metric
The book gives a construction engineer the latest recommended ideas for piping systems. Directed purely at an American reader. Many of the tables and values given are in USCS units, which nobody else in the world uses these days. I mean, come on, pressure measured in pounds per square inch?!

Book poorly written 3rd edition
Many of the example problems take short cuts while trying to explain the material through practical problems.When reading the book one is forced to constantly, turn the pages backward for previous references in order to understand the short cuts.The book is in need of some serious editing.Nevertheless, not all engineering books get better with editing.Spotts, machine design, for example in the 6th edition is a Great Book! In the 8th edition, it is useless.This book has the potential to be a good textbook. However, in this form it is just about 3 pounds of paper and cardboard with a fancy cover.Not the worst textbook ever, but it made the list.

Typo ridden clunker...
The textbook attempts to cover basic kinematics, forward and backward chaining through the Euclidean approach to describe DH conventions, torque, and so forth.The first three chapters would lead one to expect an excellent textbook, and then the textbook descends into a nightmare.

Air Pollution Control by Cooper and Alley, presents a clearly written overview of air pollution and the control processes available for the engineer to choose from.

Im a little worried
I just finished reading chapter one.I know it is quite early to make judgements, but already I'm starting to feel uneasy. As someone who has always enjoyed physics and math(and done well) I feel a little more insight into what is trying to be explained would be great.Im a student at the authors institution so I think thats why we have to use this book.I agree with others that there is a lot of waisted commentary so far, but it may prove to be usefull later.It just seems like a lot is thrown into one chapter and doesn't really mix well.More time, or more explanation about what is trying to be explained would greatly benefit the first chapter.

Pretty Good Overall
I'm an undergrad physics/engineering student.I thought this book was reasonably well written and clear.It could benefit from more example problems, and some solution techniques.
Wordy, some explanations are not clear, can be better.
I finished chapter 7. The authors do not show each step how to get the equations. Instead, a lot of math steps are missing. Unless you are good at math and recall all the fundamental physics equations, you will spend a lot of time to derive the equations by yourself. Without derive the equations, you can only accept the results without any insight. This book tries to cover introduction materials and more advanced materials.
