Best textbook I've ever had
Simple, concise, great examples, great illustrations, great problems.The style is: present a topic briefly, derive equation(s) quickly, show 3-4 examples of using said equation(s), give a couple dozen problems, and move right on to the next topic.Thanks Mr. Hibbeler, for making engineering students' lives just a bit easier.

Hibbeler - Best man ever
If it wasn't for Hibbeler, and his awesome text books, engineering would be much more difficult. If you take a course that has a Hibbeler text book, you learn more from reading the text than what you do going to class

a first course in mechanics
Hibbeler offers an undergraduate text for the mechanical engineering student. The materials studied are solids, not fluids. The discussion starts with the simplest case of treating the bodies as totally rigid. Then we see a development of Newtonian mechanics, commencing with statics. No net velocities, in some obvious reference frame.

n a world of sequels, and cruising off the success of Petroleum Refining for the Non-technical Person, we thought people in and around the petrochemicals industry could use a simpler description of their products and processes. For a target audience, we had in mind not the engineers and chemists but the marketers, the transporters, the suppliers, the finance people, the support people, and those bungie managers that seem to be in perpetual motion through various jobs in the business. We do,however, see copies of our book on the shelves of many of our technical friends.

We wrote the first edition of this book in 1983. Our intent was to create something to allow people outside the business to be able to talk knowledgeably and cogently to people inside petrochemicals. Good portable reference for professionals or graduate students
This is a pretty helpful Schaum's outline, in that most of the mathematical tables and formulas that an undergraduate math student would need are included. Material from geometry, calculus, differential equations, numerical methods, special functions and transforms, and probability and statistics are included. Plus, there are some examples of how to perform some types of calculations. There is even a section on calculating compound interest and the value of an annuity for those students of financial mathematics. Also, it is much easier than lugging around the infamous 2600 page "CRC Handbook of Mathematics and Physics." Of course, there are tradeoffs. This book has mathematical tables and formulas only, there are no physics equations.
Schaum's Mathematical Handbook Review
The book has many differential and integrals that are not in my Calculus Textbook.Plus, it has formulas and equations from algebra, geometry, trignometry, and much more.I wish I had had this when I was in high school.

Invaluable Reference!
If you're as big a fan of the Schaum's "Outline Series" as I am, and are a science/math student (or a working professional), you REALLY need to add this one to your library! Just as one should have a good one-volume encyclopedia (hint: The New Columbia Encyclopedia), and a good dictionary that doesn't require a fork-lift (hint: Oxford Encyclopedic English Dictionary). All those arcane, mind-emulsifying formulas and identities and equalities from geometry, trigonometry, calculus, probability & statistics that your professors blithely expected you to memorize (and which you just-as-blithely FORGOT when the semester ended!) are ALL collected here. About a half-inch thick (278pp, including an index!), and VERY comprehensive. More than just a compendium of formulas and tables, it offers many terrific explanations and illustrations. No more digging through your old textbooks (you DID keep them, didn't you? Yeah, right). Quick! What's the Euler-Maclaurin Summation formula? How do you determine the area of an ellipse? You DO remember those special indefinite integrals involving a(x^2)+ bx + c, don't you?

Random data and Coherent content
My major is meteorology and deal with time series data, which have huge amount of data number. This book is very helpful to me. I have to determine the statistical significance of my data and check up the assumptions bothin time and frequency domain, before deciding the statistical tests. I reada few this kinds of books but they were only concentrated on theexplanation of simple statistics theory and then came to stop after showingonly a few simple examples. So it is difficult to apply to my raw databecause the assumptions that were applied to the theory were invalid inreal situation. For example, ��Introduction to probability and statisticsfor engineers and scientist, by Sheldon M. Ross�� is too theoretical to meand the application of theories is biased to the persons who are interestedin small data set. Additionally, many books assumed the normal distributionand did not refer how we could test these assumptions. In analyzing thetime series, not only is important the data analysis in time domain, butalso the analysis in frequency domain. ��Applied Statistical time seriesanalysis by Shumway�� dealt with it. helping me understand how a car operates
I changed jobs and became a parts delivery person.The knowledge I have received from the book as helped me in knowing what my customers are talking about and thus can relate messages to the sales staff.For my job and personally, I like knowing what the function of the parts are and where they are located. I am so glad to have the book. It was well written and made learning easy.

Too much old crap and unnecessary info!
The diagrams in the book where nice, but man this guy isn't an author. You can tell he knows what he is talking about but he just uses a lot of lingo. Thankfully, there is a glossary, but it takes too long to look up every word. He just tells you the different parts in mechanisms. He doesn't really explain how anything works. By the way, he has like 5 nicknames for every part. If you are a beginner too complex, if your an expert you probably know this stuff. If you have the money and your an amateur go ahead. If none of the above I wouldn't suggest this book.

No good
The author is an owner and operator of a tutoring center. He is not an expert in auto mechanics.As he points out on the back cover the pictures and the concepts were for teenage boys and the accompanying graphics are of poor quality.

Best Reference Book Ever for Polymer Science
This book is organized in such a clear fashion that you will find virtually any fundamental polymer property, its origin and related theories in it.Most importantly, this book collects so many property tables that you will be amazed by how useful it is in your research. It is no doubt one of the most cited refrence in publications.A wonderful reference book for graduate students.

Never miss this handbook!!
I am working in Polymer relative field, and I need to know variousproperties of dozens of polymers. I am not a computer, so I could known allof them. Sometime I want to find a handbook for polymer properties, butmost of handbook only summerizes some common polymers. Thus, I can't findthe information through th handbook, but this book gives more than onehundres types of polymers with broad fields such as thermodynamic,mechanical, electrical, etc.. If you are a person who work in the polymerrelative fields, it is definately a handbook you need to have. Trust me,you can make it.

yes, some errors, but overall great text
I give this book a 5, despite the errors, because of how well it covered such a broad topic.The reviewer above mentioned the chapter on RF implementation issues, which was very good.The chapter on smart antennas is pretty good also.I think that it is included because the "software" part of a software defined radio is where beam-steering and space-diversity algorithms are implmented.It's not totally out of place and provides for some breadth.All of these VT profs (Reed, Durgin, Rappaport) tend to put out books that facilitate understanding and then, when you are ready for the underlying mathematics, they'll cite you the places to go for that.IMHO, that's a good approach- otherwise, they might as well not write books and just slap together a bunch of papers, bind 'em and call that a rigorous text.

Good book with many errors!
This book is a one-stop source for everything you need to know about Software Radio. So, this is an excellent text-book for a 1-semester course on software radio. Some of the concepts such as analog-to-digital conversion are discussed in detail, although the relevance of a 70 page chapter on smart antennas in a Software Radio book still eludes me. A good introduction to RF implementation issues is provided. There isn't too much Math in this book, which is both good and bad. My only complaint is that there are lot of errors, both conceptual and typographical, in this book and many of these errors are not addressed in the webpage maintained by the author. Great Book
A must for all Pilots.
We fly the way we train...
I first read of Rich Stowell in AOPA's Flight Training August 2001 issue, ordered the book, then found his friend's [...] flight school, where I spent an intense five weeks of dual instruction toward my private certificate (winter 2004).As Wolfgang Langewiesche points out in his classic, "Stick and Rudder", airplanes depend more on airflow in whatever direction, and forget about the ground.Rich (and Tim) point this out in discussion of control inputs and outputs, which don't necessarily mesh with the book answers in ground school.Use the latter for the written test, and what is real for the flying.I flew about 26 spin recoveries, 180 landings, and who knows how many stalls and other maneuvers, to the point where I could fly a slip straight ahead, slowly feed in rudder and feel the airplane depart toward a spin, and bring it back from that edge.My Aeronca Champ feels like a completely different airplane after all that Super Decathlon training.Buy the book, but fly the training, too.

Great Primer
If you have no knowledge of semiconductors and you want to learn this is THE book. Currently I am using it for my undergraduate course in semiconductor devices and its explanations and presentation of material is wonderful.

As a junior in college studying semiconductors, I can attest that this book has been enormously helpful in my studies, and much better than the required text.

Good Review
This book provides a good overview of problems, but bring extra reference material to the exam.This book only shows one way of doing problems and there are easier methods out there.However, this book does provide a good general reference.

Absolute must have for Exam Review and for Everyday Engineering
This book is the absolute very best to study Hydrology and Hydraullics for classroon study. After graduation this book was used for my exam review and I reference the manual in everyday actual applications. You will find there are many books to study hydrology and hydraullics but none that is more fundamentally rich with extensive examples of real life situations. This book is the most used reference book I have used.

An excellent book for hydrology and hydraulics
I have recently graduated and am currently working as a Civil/Transportation Engineer for a consulting company.I have used the book in my Water Resources course and worked on it in my Advanced Hydrology class.The strength of the book is all the examples.Many of these are conveniently set up in Table form with a key provided at the bottom of each table.It is an excellent resource that I am using as a reference material now.
Coming from someone who knows this book inside and out...
