5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting book
It has a very good approach about how to plan a marketing strategy in high tech enviroments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well balanced book
What impressed me the most about this book is the right balance of theoretical discussions and practical examples. The idea of including "views from the trenches" is just way too good. This book helped me conceptualize all the experiences that I have gathered in the past five years in the high-tech industry. This is an excellent read for people who are exclusively focused on marketing (product marketing / product management, etc) or for people who are in other functions, but want to understand the basics of high-tech marketing

5-0 out of 5 stars The best text on the marketing of high technology
Mohr's text is a good overview of industry practice, mixed with theory on marketing and the diffusion of innovations. This text is a huge step forward for the discipline. As I see the field of electronic marketing evolving, I think we will see material about the Internet moving into mainstream marketing courses. What will remain in the specialized electronic marketing course is the intersection of marketing with the cutting edge of technology.Mohr's text makes me feel much better prepared for this evolution. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not a coffee table book
This is a bit of a rough effort, and won't be making the Best Seller List, but how many books on this subject do? It seems like a must-have. I would only urge that unless you already know 3/4 of the material, you go through something smoother, such as Power System Analysis by Gross, to get yourself up to that point, because you're likely to be needlessly uncomfortable otherwise. Aside from that, this book will be greatly valued by anyone with serious interest.

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding book
In order to appreciate this book, one must understand the history behind power system protective relaying. As the previous reviewers have mentioned, the two classic bibles in protective relaying is the Westinghouse Protective Relaying book and the Westinghouse T & D book.Lewis Blackburn put the former book together while he worked at Westinghouse and he had a hand in the second book as well.My father attended the Westinghouse training courses in the 1950's and his instructor was Lew Blackburn.Over time, Mr. Blackburn became a family friend and I grew up listening to them talk about the electric power industry and learned about the subject at the feet of the master.Even though I went into motors instead of relaying, I still enjoyed reading this book.4-0 out of 5 stars Second edition has less detailed examples than the first
In working through the examples, I found that Blackburn decided to remove the details for the solutions of the example problems and just state that intermediate steps are "easily calculated."The answers arestill given, but this caused me a problem when I was working the examplesand didn't get the answer he presented.I had to refer back to the firstedition to catch my error.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular!
As a designer in the New York metropolitan area, I thoroughly appreciate the effort that must have gone into making this book, and in particular its illustrations. They are detailed, accurate (as far as I can tell), and above all informative in a way that infrastructure diagrams from other books are not. It is noted that TW:AOAC's lead designer found inspiration in a chance encounter with famed statistician/graphic artist Edward Tufte - a credible claim, if this book is any indicator. Conveying so much about the city yet basking in white space, these spreads are consistently excellent. Ascher's writing, too, is impeccable, and while a free-market standpoint is appropriately engaged in her commentary, the invaluabity of New York's public bureaus is not given short shrift.Indeed, where politics have clouded issues of development for the city, Ms. Ascher has deftly surmised the issue and given it full and fair treatment. As a major in economics and a professional graphic designer, I am happily forced to recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read, esp. for New Yorkers
This is one of the most fascinating and enlightening books I've read in a while. It explains everything that goes on behind the scenes of modern life that allow us to live the way we do.As expected, we find that there is a complex network of infrastructure and laborers that keep cities running. This book shows how each of these moving parts works and ties them all together with brilliant illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you've always wanted to know
I've just started reading this fascinating book about the infrastructure of New York City. I have always had an interest in civil engineering -- and so far have been impressed by the discussions about water delivery and waste removal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for the GA Instrument pilot
As a CFI I have numerous books in my aviation library. This book details flying in weather and the mindset required to be a safe and competent instrument pilot.
4-0 out of 5 stars Dealing with the weather
Not a lesson on meteorology; more of a lesson on judgment and decision-making. In other words, how does one deal with the weather? What does one do with the information one has?
5-0 out of 5 stars "The sky is my office"
It is hard to imagine a pilot with more weather flying experience than Captain Robert Buck. And much of this flying was in the old days: in the early years of the Army Air Corp and a young company called TWA. Much of this flying was accomplished without the assistance of modern instrumentation. Captain Buck travelled the world seeking the most ornery weather he could find, and then flew into it time and time again, compiling the experience and collecting the data that no one else had at the time. Captain Buck shares that experience here. This book is interesting and engaging to the flying enthusiast, essential to the VFR pilot, and absolutely priceless to the aspiring instrument pilot. Every discipline and every pastime has its classics, and WEATHER FLYING is, without a doubt, one of the classics of aviation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference but dated
Not a bad reference for most users. It is a little basic and some of the info is dated. It's a little weak in more advanced areas like indiredt addressing, use and construction of subroutines, but otherwise this is a good book to keep in a general library for technicians responsible for supporting PLC based systems.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for AB users
I have used this text in our PLC class for three years. I really like that it is specific to Allan Bradley products. The workbook that goes with this text has programming assignments to reinforce the concepts. As I train on AB SLC500s exclusively, it is almost ideal. I say almost becaue there are many references to obsolete instructions used with a PLC no longer manufactured. It is due for a new edition. But until then, it remains a very good text to teach from, or if you simply want to know more about the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Electrical Engineers
Great book as it is very clear, methodical, and gives great examples in which you can actually follow unlike some others.I would also recommend going through the problem sets from the authors website online as it really helps solidify the concepts taught in this book. This book is highly recommended for budding VLSI designers or engineers who just want to learn a little bit about VLSI design!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good book for mechanical engineering, I recomnend it to my students
This book covers most of the fundamental topics in fracture mechanics. I recommend it to my undergraduate students. It is very easy to understand. This book is a fundamental source in fracture mechanics. It is a classic book recommended by numerous bibliographies regarding this field of study.

3-0 out of 5 stars Broad overview with not much rigor
This book covers most of the fundamental topics in fracture mechanics. However, it lacks derivations of the equations, and the illustrations are a very crude. This book is probably appropriate for undergraduate level work, but not for graduate level.

5-0 out of 5 stars The true value of this book . . .
I can only speculate that this book is, as was one of the previous editions I've read, used and loved, is bound to provide an exceptional foundational education in the skill of technical (engineering design) drawing/drafting for those with the natural aptitude for freehand drawing. Readers will indeed learn about and develop precision drawing skills--whether drawing with instruments or computer.
1-0 out of 5 stars Profoundly Frustrating
As a freshman engineering major, I have been compelled to use Technical Drawing for a graphics course. This has been a profoundly frustrating experience. It seems that the authors, in their zeal to attain unto the dry, lifeless style characteristic of most professional engineering publications, also unintentionally created a text which is superlatively unclear.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as some claim, but not as good either
I have used this book effectively for the past three years of my Nuclear Engineering Graduate degree and have a fond place for it in my heart. Admittedly there are better texts out there and the book has many typos and errors, but the advantage it has is the text is written so straight forward and plainly that most, if not all of the errors, can be found readily by the reader.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it.
I took my undergrad fluid mechanics course using Crowe's lightweight doorstop. I took the course from Dr. Crowe himself. He certainly knows his fluid mechanics but if you go by his course and this book then he does not seem the least bit interested in handing down his knowledge to his students. At the time, about 2 years ago I gave this a 3/5 rating based upon my own naive assumption that I had a solid undergraduate background in fluid mechanics thanks to diligently studying and reading everything in this text. But it really took a graduate level fluids course to make me realize the serious deficiencies in this textbook. Save your hard earned money this book deserves zero stars and here's why:
3-0 out of 5 stars Okay reference book
This text was used in a class where I was the teaching assistant. There were numerous complaints from students about how the text was difficult to follow, and in some cases the examples were even incomplete. This was a class for junior engineering students as a first thorough course in fluids, the text was not helpful. As a graduate student I found it to be a good reference of basic concepts (although, it was hard for me to follow some of the examples). It even goes in depth with many concepts. All in all it is a good basic reference, but totally inadequate for beginning instruction.
4-0 out of 5 stars Undergrad Masterpiece

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Text For Environmental Design Management ! Flawless!
I live, study and work in the New York Tri-State region and this book is pretty great because the author also lived, worked and studied in the same region. Whats good about that? The Human Development and Expliotation is our region is very diverse and often connects directly with other prominent regions around the globe. The author basically covers alot of legalities, origins, design principles, and field work analysis really well.

5-0 out of 5 stars 94 S: Excellent Resource, Environmental Health professionals
I have just reviewed the ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND SANITATION 1994SUPPLEMENT, by Joseph A. Salvato and Joe E. Beck. It's a great resourcefor professionals seeking a broader vision of environmental health practiceareas and where we are heading.Prof. Beck obviously put a lot of workinto conceptualizing this volume and working with the distinguishedcontributors. It shows. In particular, I found the first chapter,Stakeholder Focused Interactive Planning (SFIP)by Joe Beck and Steven Isonto be a brilliant piece on the desirability of (indeed, the imperative forour profession to) include the public in problem-solving and planning.Ihave used this process and mediated disputes ranging from sitingcontroversies (haz. waste facility siting in Massachusetts) to determiningfuture land use options at Hanford in the nuclear weapons complex.Icommend both Beck and Ison for their clear portrayal of the paradigm aswell as the steps one undertakes in conducting such planning.Federalgovernment engineers and planners have been learning the hard way aboutwhat happens when decisions are made without public input and withoutregard to the values, interests, and expectations of so-calledstakeholders.At Hanford, more than $20 billion in appropriations hasyielded preciously little in terms of actual cleanup:one may wonder ifCongress will continue to appropriate the substantial $6 billion a year forthe Dept. of Energy's Environmental Management Program without consensus ofthe public on #1) the benefits or #2) the ameliorated risks from presentexpenditures.Current stakeholders come from a wide range of publicinterest groups and they do not get along particularly well. They do nothave current programs or projects that reflect the use of the SFIP andresearchers should be asking themselves, "Why not?" (Resourcesfor the Future [RFF] has an on-going research project that tackles publicparticipation in environmental decision making).Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a very useful book
This book tries to cover so many subjects that it covers none of them well. Most chapters are full of generalities rather than the details needed by a practicing engineer or student. The worst feature of the handbook isthe index, which contains so few entries that it is very difficult to findinformation on a topic or determine if the book even mentions it, whichoften it doesn't. Rather than buy this expensive handbook, I would suggestinvesting in standard references for the individual topics (e.g. wastewatertreatment, solids waste) in which you are interested. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Compendious Discussion of Groundwater Development
The author does a great job discussing aquifer properties, the hydrologic cycle, movement of groundwater, exploration, well hydraulics etc..The book presents information on transmissivity, well yield, storage, time-drawdown, and distance draw-down graphs for confined and unconfined conditions and how to use them. Also the sections on different drilling methods, well design and development I have found useful.Graphs, charts, and pictures are in color which is a nice change from black and white.I would recommend this book to any pofessional interested in groundwater exploration and movement.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fundamental reference for groundwater development
Originally published in 1966, this large book (almost 1100 pages) is acomprehensive reference for all aspects of the development of groundwaterresources, with a particular strength in the subjects of water well design, construction, and testing. An essential reference, interesting reading, and the retail price is a bargain. The book is published by JohnsonFiltration (now U.S. Filter / Vivende) and may have a bias toward the wellscreeen design originated by Johnson, but that does not detract from thevalue of the book.

Like the previous two reviews stated...the book is way overpriced and I had to buy a solution manual from Amazon.uk because apparently they dont sell it here??If your teacher doesn't assign homework get a previous edition because the examples and explanation are the same... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Detailed info on techniques and processes
This book is uniquely geared to the sales engineer role, not to general sales reps. Yet anyone selling technology products will learn from the detailed info on techniques and step-by-step processes for the technical sales cycle. Case studies and exercises supplement the book's discussion with real-world perspective. However, the book gives only a brief, passing reference to the role of marketing to support sales activity--an understanding that is valuable to every SE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I'm new to the Sales Role and this book is helping me a lot understand not only the process sales but how to deal with politics and things that make the technical sale.
5-0 out of 5 stars Essential tool that any SE be they new, experienced, or a manager should read cover to cover.
I was challenged a few months ago to explain in detail what makes up a Sales Engineer/Solutions Consultant? What does the role entail and what do you need to know to be successful? Well, if I'd read this book before that exercise then I'd have simply asked the technical trainer I was briefing to read this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars a Lean approach to machinery maintenance processes
Provides the insight that as an organization leans its manufacturing processes, it must also address machinery maintenance processes or reliability suffers. It gives a good background on Lean Manufacturing and rationale for using a lean approach on maintenance processes, along with an excellent "how to" guide for implementing.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great "How To" Text
The book provided an interesting background and history. Once it got into the actual elements of Lean Maintenenance, the text was very comprehensive. It provided a step-by-step process for setting up a lean maintenance program -- a cook-book approach.2-0 out of 5 stars Missed the Lean point
Good maintenance book, but it missed the point on lean by a mile.If you just what some of the lean ideas, but not how they relate to maintenance it may be for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More than just symmetrical components:
With the passing of Lew the industry has lost a great giant.Fortunately his great knowledge has been captured and preserved in this book. After explaining in great detail the system of symmetrical components, the book explains through practical examples how to use symmetrical components to solve problems. The book is an excellent text and reference book.Items covered include line impedances, machines, and transformers.Underground and overhead line impedances and mutuals are covered extensibly. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The Most Confusing Mechanics Book Around!
This book is awful. The writing style is terrible. I think the author needs to learn how to speak english. Here's a quote from the book:
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Understand
This book is very well written, it is easy to follow and each of the examples are explained in good detail. I would say that overall this is one of the better text books that I have used in my academic career.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great introductory text for strength of materials
I was surprised at how clear and thorough this book was.I read almost the entire book (left out just a number of sections), and if you're like me and need to know the proofs for the engineering models, then this is great. It explained derivations, equation limitations, and problem-solving methods in a very satisfying way - I can honestly say that, because of this book, I have a better appreciation for how engineering methods are developed.Assuming you've studied differential equations and statics, then this book will be just right for you.Read more
