5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and Simple
This information in this book is simply presented and very easy to apply.
5-0 out of 5 stars Information packed
Most texts on software testing have a chapter or two which describe test design techniques. This is the first text that is devoted exclusively to this subject. There is little in the way of theory. The text is practical and provides the software test professional with clear explanations and examples of test techniques that have been proven to be effective.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Critically Important Read for Software Test Engineers
Lee Copeland's book, "A Practitioner's Guide to Software Test Design" provides an easily read introduction into a critical but often ignored subject. As those familiar with the IEEE Standard for Software Test Documentation (IEEE-Std-829) know, Test Design is the first step in turning the "What" of the Test Plan into the "How" of test execution. The IEEE Test Documentation lifecycle is Test Plan - Test Design - Test Case Development - Test Procedure Development - (Test Execution) - Test Summary Report creation. Many test engineers proceed directly from Test Planning into Test Procedure creation, and do Test Design implicitly as opposed to explicitly. This can have a negative impact on an effective test program. This book clearly shows how to implement the test design process described in Drabick's book "Best Practices for the Formal Software Testing Process".

5-0 out of 5 stars THANK YOU SCHAUM"S!
This book is a GOD SEND. I have been utterly confused in my upper division probability course, but this book has so many great worked out problems that it worked out all my problems understanding the subject material. I thought I would fail the class, but I will probably get a B!

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential supplement for any course in random processes
I used this book in conjunction with "Probability and Random Processes with Applications to Signal Processing" by Stark & Woods, and I would have to say that this Schaum's outline filled in the gaps nicely. Stark & Woods has a nice selection of exercises, but unfortunately there are no solutions to any of the problems in the book, so you have no way of knowing whether or not you have grasped the material. That is where this outline came in handy. It manages to cover all of the issues in random processes, including basic probability, random variables and multiple random variables, functions of random variables, convolution, estimation and decision theory, and queueing theory.Chapters five and six on the processing and analysis of random processes are particularly useful to those readers who are interested in applications to signal processing and communications theory. Each chapter has an excellent selection of exercises with solutions to test your knowledge. The only possible drawback of this text is that it often approaches the material from a mathematician's viewpoint more than that of an engineer. Therefore, there are quite a few proofs included as exercises that probably won't be that helpful for students of the applied sciences. The reader should already be comfortable with multivariable calculus as well as linear algebra to get the most from this book. Also, though chapter one reviews probability quite well, this should probably not be your first excursion into the subject. The only difficult part of random processes that I found this book a bit weak on was on the subject of functions of random variables. Again, this is probably because this text takes more of a mathematician's point of view and functions of random variables is more of an engineering subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great exercise book
This book has many exercises with answers/solutions to each and every exercise covering a wide range of topics from probability. The book, however, should be used along with an appropriate probability textbook. An excellent companion to Hsu's book is the introductory text by Henk Tijms. This book contains many worked-out examples and exercises as well, but also explains why probability works and how it can be applied in practice. As engineering student, I learned a lot by using both books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book to Learn Natural Gas Trading
Even if you do not have a solid understanding of derivatives, this book is really good explaining step by step how the different derivatives are used for hedging natural gas; regardless if you are the producer, trader, or end user. The author gives many examples of how each derivative works.I highly recommend this book if you are starting out as a junior trader, risk products trader, supply planner, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars educational sources for practical trading purposes
I have not seen any book that describes its domain with such generous detail and is geared for real life trading. The contents may not be enough for those who trade only financial energy instruments, but it is indeed a good course material for the market makers, and hedgers, namely end users and producers. I highly recommend this book to those who are involved in natural gas industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Natural Gas Traders
Was very pleased with the material contained in this book.Although I am a beginner in the natural gas trading field, I found Sturm's book both easy to understand yet challenging in its scope.A great deal of emphasis isplaced upon various hedging techniques and many helpful diagrams areincluded to portray the trading flow.Overall a very unique and insightfulbook for beginners and for those with years of experience in tradingnatural gas. ... Roark's has been and remains an excellent resource for the structural engineer and designer regardless of the edition. This is a referance I use on a daily basis.Typically the first book I reach for.

2-0 out of 5 stars Concise, but Too Simplified
Come on, you need to know much more than what was in this book to be a structural engineer.I bought the 3rd edition right when it was fresh off the press to prepare for the NCEES Structural II exam in April 2006.I didn't take the Structural I exam so I can't say if this book is more tailored to that. However, I have to say I passed in spite of this book. The examples in the book are easy to follow, but for a good portion of them they only cover the easy special cases, not the more elaborate, more complicated variations. For how thin this book is, I think it is outrageously expensive.I was also disappointed that the concrete design aids are not updated to the current code with the revised factors.
2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new in the 2nd Edition
This book is good to give a quick start on your exam review. However, it is unbelievable that the new Dec 2004 version, or 2nd Edition, is still not updated to ACI-02, IBC-03, .... It is really of no big difference from its 1st edition. To those who expect to use this for your 2005 Structural I exam, be cautious about the code reference. I have so far gone through concrete, footing, prestressed concrete, and seismic. Many equations, load factors, code Equation and Section numbers are not updated. I have to say that LOTS of them are obsolete. It would be a very good reference if the author had taken time to do his homework in revising the materials. I am extremely disappointed for what turned out to be in this 2nd Edition. It does not worth the money you pay, and in many places, it leads you to obsolete code information which either wastes your time in review or affects your score in the PE/SE exam.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but a ways to go...
While there are several good sources for worked sample problems available, as far as I know this is the first true review manual for the NCEES Structural Engineering Exams.I for one am glad someone finally brought book like this to market.Having worked with it for several months now, I must say my impression is that while quite good, it may have been rushed to market a bit prematurely. In light of therelatively hefty price tag, it seems like there should be a bit more depth.Concise is one thing, but Williams typically launches into a subject with little or no commentary, opting instead to let the equations do the talking. If you have a question about assumptions or how to apply an equation you're left scrambling for other references.I may be a bit spoiled having just used PPI's Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual to earn my Mechanical PE license. This is the model Williams should follow for future revisions to his work. The MERM is a stand-alone document that both teaches you the basics of a subject and documents all the required data and formulas.I would imagine by the time this book has been revised to include all it should it will have roughly doubled in thickness.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool
Great introductory book. It built upon many of the concepts I had learned in my General Chemistry couses. Having previously worked in metal fabrication, I now learned what the metal specification numbers meant and why some types of metals are harder or softer than others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very easy to understand
Although i found it to be mundane at times, it was a great book when it came to teaching the material.the examples are made very clear and the text cleanly explains anything that you may find confusing.very highly recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars an introduction
The depth, clarity with which he surveys materials science concepts will make this text indispensable for both studying and practicing engineers for years to come. Without a doubt, this is one of the most well written textbooks I have ever had the pleasure of reading. All the figures are well drawn, the green fonts here and there seem quiet. All the tough theories, concepts just jump out of the line and hit my forehead. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Shop Manuals...
Even if you just do basic repairs or routine service to your car, the Bentley manuals are the only real game in town. They are copied directly from BMW original manuals and are very detailed. When I first got my 528, one of the cup holders failed in the back seat. The manual showed me an easy way to remove them. I also chose to replace the center arm rest and trying to figure that out without the manual would have been impossible. With the manual it was a 10 minutes affair. These two items paid for the cost of the manuals and the manuals add to the value of my car when and if I sell it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but lacks detail
Needed to replace water pump, thermostat, belts and hoses on E39 530, details are lacking. Good source for general information, but most of that is available on the Net.

4-0 out of 5 stars BMW 5 Series (E39) Service Manual: 1997-2002 (BMW 5 Series (E39) (2 Volume Set) (BMW 5 Series (E39))
It's a pity that the technical manual doesn't cover the BMW 525TDS or TD (Diesel versions). These Diesel-engine equipped E39-versions differ of course in the engine mechanics (i.e. a M51TU motor engine), but has also differences in the electrical wiring, hence making the details of the Electrical Diagrams almost useless (when it comes to the details of the connections).

A true introductory book on Control Engineering
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This book helped me a lot while I was studing Control Theory at college. It has very clear examples and it is well written.

4-0 out of 5 stars For whom want to master the subject!
This text is not just thorough in its covered material. It covers more material than all other undergrad. level control texts I've ever seen. It treats thoroughly both state-space and the transform approaches which makes this text somehow unique. The text opens your eyes to the P,PI,PD and PID controllers in the very beginning which is thrilling for first time control students. As a matter of fact, the text is more focused on mechanical engineers interests than those of the electrical engineers. I consider the concept itself neutral :) which ECS/EE majors might share with ME(s).

5-0 out of 5 stars FEMALE AFRICAN BUSH PILOT IN THE 30's GIVES INSIDE VIEW
Beryl Markham's book West with the Night is a true story of how she lived and worked in Africa as a push pilot back in the 1930's -- almost amazing for a woman...what an experience alone-- what an adventure-- but her writing -- ahhh that's something amazing in itself....from dealing with the Blackwater Die to the lion who almost ate her to search for a Libyan port and a fallen colleague-- a beautiful book...each chapter is written almost like a true short story....she's a beautiful writer and to think this is a piece of our women's past that is here to still cherish-- belongs on the shelf of every women's studies office...great for a young woman to read....especially great gift to a chick going off to college.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Written
West With the night is Beryl Markham's memoir of life as a bush pilot in 1930s Africa. The beautifully written prose paints evocative pictures of the Serengeti in the reader's brain, and each paragraph is dense and satisfying. A wonderful read, especially for fans of Out of Africa - and some of the same people are mentioned in this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Probably the most beautifully written book I have ever read.
The exceptional wordcrafting in West With The Night brings Africa alive and makes it almost a personal experience. Beryl Markham was a most interesting individual and her life growing up in Africa is the beautiful background for this book. I have only reread one book in my sixty-some years and this is it. I enjoyed it at least as much the second time around.

Add Johnson and Graham to the list of people who can write large, highly technical books full of useful, pertinent information, and package it all in a way that's mostly very readable and which mixes just the right blend of rigorous academic structure with good old-fashioned "when all else fails, you might get away with this" hacks. This book is by no means a thorough, academic grounding in the subject matter, but it works well as an introduction for people who have some background in conventional electronics, yet little or no background in the specifics of high-speed digital design.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mostly a very solid book
Great book.BTW, the author lists a LOT of errata on his website, enough to take over an hour to mark up my copy (5th printing).Although it's nice he documents this so well, it's a pain in the rear, so you may want to verify the edition you're buying to avoid this extra effort. On page vi, above ISBN, look for reverse sequence; example: "10 9 8 7" indicates 7th printing (cryptic, I know). Most recent printing is 15th edition (least amount of errata). The book is loaded with equations and diagrams. It would be nice to see more derivations, but at least the equations are there in the text, and in the appendix.I thought a few other reviewers were a bit harsh. The book is not perfect, but nevertheless a great resource. His second book is impressive, but more advanced; this original title is my "workhorse" book.also, check out his website (sigcon.com) for lots of articles and resources. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Review essential in passing EIT, but I have a bone to pick
I bought this in 1992 for the State of Washington EIT test at the price of $43. How the hell is this now $134 and it's the same damn edition, not to mention the print quality doesn't merit such a hefty pricetag? [read: it was recycled paper with crappy fonts]

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book
I highly recommend this book and it is a must read for all manufacturing personnel in the USA. This book will make you re-think all aspects of fixture design and manufacturing processes. It provides many excellent verbal & illustrated examples of SMED concepts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good book on Set Up Time Reduction
Very good book if your interested to reduce setup / changeover times. The book is very easy to read although in some cases it keeps repeating itself. When you think logical you could already figure out 75% on how to improve changeover before reading the book, but for the last 25% this book is an absolute must. A lot of the examples are car manufacturing related, but this I not a problem because the writer tries to give you the tools on how SMED can be reached, regardless which industry you are working in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Set Up Time Reduction Manual
This book does an excellent job of explaining how manufacturing setup times can be drastically reduced, including many useful examples.Reducing setup times is critical in the effort to implement the extraordinarily efficient Toyota Production System.Read more
