5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for Circuit Designers
Dr. Allen estalished methodological analysis and design principles of CMOS analog circuits, especially in op amps and filters. As the author's publicity tells, this book (and 1st edition) turned a magic of analog circuits and systems to straight forward design flow. As an analog and mixed signal designer, this book is always within my reach on the desk.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Analog IC Design Textbook but not Gray and Meyer
Allen & Holberg is a book you should add to your library if you are a mixed signal designer or applications engineer. It is particularly strong in switched capacitor circuits (ch 9) and A/D and D/A conversion circuits (ch 10).It is weak on high speed analog design, and weak in developing the intuition needed for analog design, something Gray and Meyer spends time on.I feel that the text reads much better than Razavi.go to www.aicdesign.org for the book errata.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good overview but a little too broad in scope
This outline covers just about all of the applied mathematics that upper level undergraduate and graduate engineers need to know to solve problems. It is a great reference, but its scope is so broad that you really can't use it for anything other than review. The author apparently recognizes that an outline this broad in scope cannot be that instructive either, and limits the introductory portion of each chapter to relevant tables and equations that an engineer/scientist must know to work problems. It is assumed you have other books to function as detailed tutorials. I have to say that the differential equations portions of this outline were far superior to the individual Schaum's outlines for those subjects. Also, the Fourier series and Fourier integral chapters were a bit too theoretical for most engineers, as many of the problems involved proofs or demonstrating properties rather than using the theory to solve problems. However, most chapters have a good mix of exercises - a few proofs, straight numerical problems, and applied exercises such as problems on circuit analysis, for example.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great text and/or reference
I keep one copy of this book at home and one at my office in Los Alamos National Laboratory, as do other physicist, engineers and applied mathematicians.Whenever I forget some applied mathematical method, I first turn to this Schaum's outline.Much more often than not, I get what I need.Only rarely do I have to go to the heavy artillery: Morse and Feshback.
5-0 out of 5 stars essential for any scientist
I bought this book for self study and it is amazing. For someone interested in furthering their mathematical knowledge and applying it to their research, it is a must have item. Especially because of its low price and the numerous solved exercises that one can follow and easily learn from. Covers everything from PDE's to conformal mapping and everything in between at an approachable level for non-mathematicians. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If There Is One Book You'll Ever Need, This Is It!
I own several environmental engineer textbooks, many of which focuses on either environmental planning, engineering systems, case histories & legislations, water treatment, energy, or current trends. Few books like this 1400+ page monster of a handbook focuses on all aspects of this important field. In its preface it explains why having all aspects in one bounded body is vital to the engineer student; simply the field of environemental engineering utilizes knowledge and information from other-scientific, legal, and social-science fields to solve many problems that are encountered daily whiles working to create better systems, laws and solutions. This book has everything that you will need to know to work in the field. It promotes tried and true theories used by scientists before as well as sets up the beginner students with the challenges of creating new theories and working ideas to solve current and projected problems that face us today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Succeeds At Daunting Task
It would be a daunting task to put together a book to cover all areas of information security into a single, comprehensive reference work. Perhaps that is why it has not been done. Until now. On December 30, 2006, John Wiley and Sons will release the Handbook of Information Security (2005, Edited by Hossein Bidgoli et al, 3366 pages). With contributions from 240 contributors and extensive peer review by over 1,000 others, this book should be the definitive reference manual that sits in the office of every information technology auditor, as well as every information technology security professional who needs information without extensive digging. In fact this three volume set might easily replace many other security titles that have not been through as extensive a peer review process.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely HORRIBLE manual
******One-star is NOT LOW ENOUGH*******2-0 out of 5 stars 1991-99 Ford Explorer Repair Manual
In section 6 the information for the windshield wiper motor is not applicable to my 1996 explorer. Also, there is no information about how to remove / replace the windshield washer spray nozzles.Or how to remove the cowling along the base of the windshield.

1-0 out of 5 stars Chilton's has lost touch with reality.
I purchased this book for needed factual, accurate information of which I got neither. I wanted to replace the lower ball joints on my '99 Ranger, so I bought this book. Take note: on page 8-4 it states specifically that the 1998-99 Ranger does NOT have coil springs. This of course is hogwash as my '99 most definitely has coil springs. In addition, it states on page 8-8 that the ball joint is an integral part of the lower control arm. This, too, is complete hogwash. Please be advised that this book is RIFE with erroneous information - including any pictures contained therein. I have lost all faith in Chilton's ability to present the correct information on ANY automobile. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good News!
A review of our book stated that the body measurement data came from 1960 Air Force studies. The reviewer should be pleased to know that the book actually contains some of the latest anthropometric data available for the U.S. population.Just before publication of the Human Factors Design Handbook, the U.S. Army completed measurements of nearly 9000 subjects. These data are contained in our book. While this is not a profile of the civilian population (male and female subjects ranged from age 18 to 51), it does provide fairly good estimates.Unfortunately, even now there is no comprehensive survey data for United States civilian population.Currently the Society of Automotive Engineers is coordinating a massive survey of United States and European civilian populations. The project participants include Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and several industrial partners. The survey is called the Civilian American and European Surface Anthropometry Resource, or CAESARTM and data should be available late in 2001.2-0 out of 5 stars A rerun with only a few new parts

5-0 out of 5 stars Elegant and astonishing
Professor Luenberger unites many areas of optimization using a few principles from functional analysis. The explanations are clear and the proofs are compact and elegant. This book is your tool for understanding the deep connection between linear programming, convex optimization, game theory, optimal control and series approximation (e.g. Fourier series).
3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Book but Seriously Overpriced
The exposition is pretty clear and the book has a good number of worked non-trivial examples. At $40 this would be a great book, but $100 for a PAPERBACK book written 30 years ago is a bit ridiculous. The first 1/4 of the book is also a (very) basic introduction to functional analysis which, if you have had any contact with this subject before, you will probably skip making the book quite short.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a true classic
This book is a timeless classic, filled with extraordinarily powerful mathematics and applicable to just about every serious subject area. Luenberger did a masterful job of writing a book that will "unravel the spaghetti" seen in most other books. The visual perspectives he provides to seemingly abstract ideas are the key. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excelente learning tool for Petroleum Production Systems
It is an excellent book to understand in detail the petroleum production systems for a person who has some background in the area. It is also helpful as a reference book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
The book is unpractical for the working engineer and the mathematics is simplified calculus which is not understandable to the average practicing engineer, but seems to be in favor of academic types. This is not a book for someone who wants to learn why production equipment works. The chapter on multiphase flow is its only saving grace, but any cheap paper on the subject will say as much. I would recomened the OGCI books on Production Technology. Way cheaper...way better...

5-0 out of 5 stars Numerical Methods made easy
I bought this book a little while ago to get more familiar with interpolation which I need to use in some of the signal analysis software that I write. As I was reading through the book I suddenly realized the overall usefulness of numerical methods in general. It has helped me code up routines for solving matrices and interpolation algorithms. After reading this book I really can not understand how courses in linear algebra and differential equations can be taught without extensive use of numerical methods.
3-0 out of 5 stars A excellent book ruined by clutter
The basic content of the book is excellent. However, in trying to cover different packages and/or languages the book loses its charm.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good introduction to nanotechnology
I started reading this book trying to get a good initial grip on the notions and progress made in nanotechnology. This book helped me exactly as I wanted. Very clearly written it takes you through a wide range of topics and in the end one manages to form a pretty good idea about development in one area or another of this very multiform field and, more importantly, gives a sense of where to go and what to expect from a certain branch.
1-0 out of 5 stars Presents abridged versions of other reviews
This book merely presents abridged versions of other reviews on nanotechnology. For example, the chapter on self-assembly misses most if not all if the initial discoveries and describes second and third generation reports that merely duplicate the concepts with new chemical building blocks. If one reads the reviews cited at the end of the chapters one will get a better view of the respective topics. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All you need for Geotechnical Review
This book covers huge amount of subjects and all in great detail. Author has emphasized NCEES topics like deep and shallow foundations, pavement design, retaining walls, soil settlement and earthwork engineering. There is a blend of technical clarity and engineering practice hints that makes this book a keeper reference after the P.E. exam. Another plus is that it has not been rushed to market and has a systematic and uniform way of arriving at answers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Power Plant Engineering
This book presents the latest data on power plants and provides much needed formulas and rules of thumb for sizing equipment based on plant size and arrangement. The book has many examples of equipment and has a good section although somewhat out of date on permitting of power plants. I would recommend it for any power plant engineer especially those just entering the power generation industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to teach with!
I use this book in my Sound Design class at the University of Saint Francis. It is a great foundation upon which you can build confidence in your inexperienced students just by having them read the book! Also it helps make sense out of the confusion of directors dealing with sound and audio crew. This book has made my teaching job a lot easier and the students of my class a lot more saavy in sound design.
4-0 out of 5 stars Review of 'Sound Design' from Microfilmmaker.com
One of the least understood fields of expertise in either low-budget or big-budget filmmaking is the area of sound design. Because it is equally overlooked on both the high end and the low end, we on the ultra low end can gain the most benefit and even make our production quality superior to that of current Hollywood by mastering it.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book give you a great understanding of the art of making a movie soundtrack!
I've been a fan of movies and surround sound for some years now. With this new knownledge from this book, I "hear" the movies in a very different way. I always been impressed with the crew who creats the movie soundtrack and this book has given me a greater understanding of the many considerations behind the creation of the movie soundtrack.
