An excellent text for self-study
This is a great book. In fact, it is the best book if like me, you don't have time to follow a teacher-led course. Stephen Chapra has authored/co-authoredseveral engineering texts, and this one is just as well-written as the others. My need was for a text which had the right balance of theory and practical implementation details. Since I develop water-quality & hydrodynamics software, I also was concerned with numerical methods issues. This book met my needs. Chapra has a very enjoyable style. I like his sometimes 'anecdotal' style, whereby he gives you historical or background blurbs which help view things in their proper context. Surface Water Quality is "quality" from cover to cover
I found this book to be extremely useful.It covers the necessary issues of surface water modeling, such as reaction kinetics, mixed vs non-mixed systems, a variety of possible contaminants and indicators, as well as avariety of surface water body types.Each part of the book is a series oflectures containing theory as well as practical modeling methods.The textis clear and flows well, with occasional comical examples and literaryquotes. ... Water is already a big problem
We can know that water problem is not lying in the future but now.Especially Dead Sea basin is the source of armed conflicts over years.The Aral Sea problem shows no sighn to recover. We are doomed to repeat the past

The development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) over the past few years has been one of the triumphs brought about by more powerful computer hardware, software and big hard drives. Conceptually GIS came about in the 1960 with the ideal of co-registered overlays of what's underground. A well-written introductory text

Environmental site remediation focusing on bio methods.
These University of California, Davis, professors have provided a most useful addition to remediation study resources with this text.They designed it for use in an introductory course on remediation of soil andgroundwater contaminated by organic compounds.Petroleum compounds are aprime example of those organics. The text has been "vetted" byenvironmental engineering students at Davis over a five-year period.TheNST/Engineers, Inc. reviewers consider knowledge of bioremediationprinciples to be a requirement of students in environmental science orengineering.This book is an excellent choice as a study text or as areference for practicing engineers.Problems, discussion questions, andreferences follow each chapter.Sample problems are worked-out within thechapters. exercises do not reflect chapter material
My problem with this book is that the review questions at the end of each chapter use terminology and concepts that are not introduced in the chapter's text.Often the concepts in the text are referred to withdifferent terminology in the questions, making them unnecessarilyconfusing.For example, in 2.3 "particle density" is used torefer (I assume) to the concept of "solids density" presented inthe chapter.Also in the same problem, the concept of "air-filledporosity" is used but is not presented anywhere else in the text. A practical text for real world practice
Haestad Methods has provided an excellent text for practical use by engineers.This text is best used in combination with Haestad Method's WaterCAD Software, but still provides enough to be valuable to any engineer who works with water distribution systems.This book is an improvement over the previous "Water Distribution Modeling" text and effectively replaces it.This book is a very useful resource for any civil engineering office that designs water distribution systems.The WaterCAD software program is also fantastic.
