5-0 out of 5 stars thorough, well-defined, fluent
I was very happy to use this text throughout my course on Hydrogeology. The verbage was succinct, the problems were applicable and well-complimented with the website for explanations, and the chapter reviews were impendious. At the end of each chapter, Fetter cocnluded with a detail of symbols; which I found to be a nice touch.Often an author uses a symbol once and expects the reader to always retain its significance, which is an unreal circumstance. The case studies were necessary to hammer home a concept! They were well-written and facilitated the goal of explaining a hydrogeological problem, and a solution.
5-0 out of 5 stars Relieved to find.
I found this book the easiest to read, compaired to a few other groundwater textbooks out there. It concentrates on the practical applications as opposed to formula derivations.

3-0 out of 5 stars Did anyone proof read this text before it went to print?
I have the 3rd edition which I purchased in 1995 and although I enjoy the subject matter and use this book as a reference,I am still finding errors and making corrections to the textbook (typos in both text and problem sets).Someone should have paid closer attention to detail prior to submission to the publisher.I was going to get the 4th addition to add to my personal library, hoping there would be no errors. However, after a few minutes of research on the internet I found out that there are still errors in the 4th addition. However, the author does have a webpage with corrections posted.I wouldn't recommend this text to anyone unless they have time and are willing to go through the text to make the corrections. There are other texts in print covering the same subject matter with fewer or no errors. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Compendious Discussion of Groundwater Development
The author does a great job discussing aquifer properties, the hydrologic cycle, movement of groundwater, exploration, well hydraulics etc..The book presents information on transmissivity, well yield, storage, time-drawdown, and distance draw-down graphs for confined and unconfined conditions and how to use them. Also the sections on different drilling methods, well design and development I have found useful.Graphs, charts, and pictures are in color which is a nice change from black and white.I would recommend this book to any pofessional interested in groundwater exploration and movement.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fundamental reference for groundwater development
Originally published in 1966, this large book (almost 1100 pages) is acomprehensive reference for all aspects of the development of groundwaterresources, with a particular strength in the subjects of water well design, construction, and testing. An essential reference, interesting reading, and the retail price is a bargain. The book is published by JohnsonFiltration (now U.S. Filter / Vivende) and may have a bias toward the wellscreeen design originated by Johnson, but that does not detract from thevalue of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Groundwater and Wells
Groundwater and Wells is a very well written, comprehensive reference book that should be on the desk of everyone who works in the groundwater field. The book is well illustrated and the Appendicies alone are well worth theprice of the book! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Difficult to Read
Well there is no doubt that this book contains a large amount of information, it CANNOT be used as an introductory text.It is much to difficult to comprehend, and Wetzel makes absolutely no effort to teach the concepts. Here merely presents a synthesis of limnological research.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good as a Limnology Primer
This is an excellent general reference text. Can not say enough about the excellent content of this text. But it is need of an edition update with information for lake mapping and restoration.Dr. C.L. Nelson of St. CloudState University, St. Cloud, MN has an excellent small text on physicallimnology for the mapping aspect. This book does do an excellent job on thebiological aspects of limnological work.

5-0 out of 5 stars My view of the Wetzel's limnology book
The book contains a lot of information related to lakes. Its a complete work about the conditions on this systems. Include a study about the performance of the ionic particles in this systems. Its a suitable bookfor students like me, to understand the freshwater ecology. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars H2Oh, my God!
When I was in my teens and early twenties, I had horrible, horrible acne. I tried all kinds of things; medicines, creams, soaps. My acne would dissapear for a little bit and then come back with a vengeance. I was about ready to give up. But one day I was sitting there and I was just looking at a glass of water I had poured. The morning sunlight that was streaming in through the kitchen windows hit the glass of water just right and it really caught my attention; it was absolutely beautiful. I held up that glass of water to the sun and said from a place of love, "This is beauty water. This water cleanses, purifies, and beautifies my skin..." And then I drank the water. The water actually tasted better...it was so weird...
4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
Once again, Mr. Emoto does not disappoint. As are all his books, this one is especially enchanting and thought provoking.A must-read while enjoying the waterfront.

3-0 out of 5 stars While the 'message' is interesting (be a good person), need aggressive scientific approach to find out if it is truth or folly
The photos are nice and beautiful and if you are a deeply religious person you probably will take the face value of the book. At least the idea is interesting. However, the methods described didn't sound particulary scientific and made it very difficult for others to attempt to duplicate it. If I ever get a hand on a high res microscope and a sub-freezing room, I will give it a shot with Bach and Iron Maiden, however, I find it hard to believe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick delivery and good quality
I am using this book as a course text in one course at grad school. In particular, I was impressed with the delivery quickly and and good quality of book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Never disappointed with Dingman's text
In the past, if I needed a quick, understandable description of any hydrologic term or process, Dingman's text was the first choice. This is a well written, well organized text which offers all the fundamentals. If need to look up some hydro term or process, this text will invariably have it and if it doesn't offer a good description, it will give you a nugget of info to build on and further your research.Great text!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good information, not so great layout
There is a lot of good information packed into this book but as a student, I have found it a very frustrating textbook to use.The reader is bombarded with equations without a good general overview first.A glossary would also be helpful. The units of many equations are left out. This is confusing since for many empirical equations, the units cannot be derived from dimensional analysis. Finally, like many hydrology textbooks, there are literally hundreds of Greek symbols used throughout.Without any glossary or table of symbols used in each chapter, it is very difficult to go back and find the original definition and derivation, should I forget what one of the symbols stands for. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Lake Detective... He Can't Be Stumped!A great GLer
This is that guy from AM1500 KSTP... Garage Logic, with Joe Soucheray. He goes by "The Lake Detective", and all he does is lakes, I guess. He's found a great niche in MN, land of 10,000 of 'em.Being a lakeshore owner, I've already used some of his techniques to keep my shore in great shape. The beauty of a lot of his approaches is that the solutions mostly seem pretty low-tech and inexpensive. But that's a good thing.I didn't have to rent expensive equipment to get my shore cleared, and the results have been great.Read more

Stumm and Morgan remains the best aquatic chemical book ever written.3-0 out of 5 stars Reference Yes, Teaching Text, No
This book is an excellent reference text for people who already know something about aquatic chemistry. It contains more material and covers more topics than any other book in the field. As a teaching text, however, it is severely lacking.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference book for chem. & physics of nat. systems

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, could be better
As teacher of an Environmental Engineering course (at Ariel Academic College, Israel) and as consulting engineer, I find the book useful, but... Some areas are weak: Population and demand prognosis, Resource planning, Economic evaluation and optimization, Advanced water treatment (membrane and ion exchange technologies, for example), Desalination of brackish and sea water. Each chapter has a well explained exercise, a very useful feature, but most are non metric. All in all, I know of no better textbook, and it is worth its money.

4-0 out of 5 stars water and waste

1-0 out of 5 stars Geochemistry of Natural Waters
I had used this text book for a graduate class in Chemical Hydrogeology while doing my Masters.I found this to be a very poor text to use.The textbook presents a very qaulitative approach to geochemistry of natural waters and does not lend itself to quanititative problem solving.I purchased other texts on ths subject so that I could cross-reference and determine how to setup problems for equilibrium chemistry.I would not recommend use of this text.

1-0 out of 5 stars Needs Work
This book does not lend itself to an introductory class in geochemistry for the graduate student. The material does not present comprehensive derivations of calculations, but relies on prior knowledge and assumption not generally available,or known by the graduate student first being introduced to Geochemistry. The majority of the book is normally only comprehensable to the student after the material has been described by persons knowledgable in the subject mater. In other word this book is worthless to read prior to the lecture on the subject mater.Furthermore, the appendices are full of errors and contradictions to other references, and the book has numerous typos and difficult language constructs that make the text incomprehensible at times.I hope there is a better book for the introductory graduate class in geochemistry out there, because this book does not cut it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable Reference for Aqueous Geochemistry Concepts
Drever's has long been a valuable reference in my own work and in the classes I teach. It is one of several references I use for understanding geochemical processes. The first sentence of the preface states that the text is intended for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate courses. I first used this text when I took Aqueous Geochem in grad school and it really made a difference in understanding applications. Spend an hour with Stumm and Morgan and then look at Drever. You'll almost see the lightbulb go on over your head. The example calculations are great and the addition of the geochemical models enhance the applicability of the text.Read more

Overall a very good book. This is the text our Hydrogeology professor, Dr.J.Toth used in the 80's. It covers a great deal of information on facies, flow nets, hydrologic cycle, chemical evolution, groundwater resource evaluation, contamination, groundwater processes and a really good section on chemical principles and mass action. This is not a quantitative text, the discussions on finite difference and finite element methods include very little math. I would have also liked to have seen a better discussion of well hydraulics. I still turn to it for a reference as it is a very useful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A rigorous and quantitative basic reference
This is a good complement to "Groundwater Hydrology" by Todd. Freeze and Cherry is more detailed, rigorous, and quantitative than Todd, but it doesn't communicate the big picture quite as well. As well as anundergraduate textbook, this book is an essential resource for anyoneworking in the field.

5-0 out of 5 stars The "bible" of groundwater
Despite the fact that this book was written almost twenty years ago, it is still considered the definitive work on groundwater geology. A must-have for hydrogeologists and groundwater engineers. ... Read more
