Absolute must have for Exam Review and for Everyday Engineering
This book is the absolute very best to study Hydrology and Hydraullics for classroon study. After graduation this book was used for my exam review and I reference the manual in everyday actual applications. You will find there are many books to study hydrology and hydraullics but none that is more fundamentally rich with extensive examples of real life situations. This book is the most used reference book I have used.

An excellent book for hydrology and hydraulics
I have recently graduated and am currently working as a Civil/Transportation Engineer for a consulting company.I have used the book in my Water Resources course and worked on it in my Advanced Hydrology class.The strength of the book is all the examples.Many of these are conveniently set up in Table form with a key provided at the bottom of each table.It is an excellent resource that I am using as a reference material now.
Coming from someone who knows this book inside and out...
This textbook is fantastic, very well thought out, great use of examples and background information.I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at Johns Hopkins University and an Engineer at NASA and have worked with this textbook for creating a new edition with Dr. Ram Gupta (the author of the text) and can say for certain that this text is a great resource for hydrology inside and outside of class. ... Professional Library "must have"
This book is a great one-stop reference for engineers and designers involved in water distribution or piping networks.The topics are covered in sufficient detail, and if more information is needed, the relevant source is usually listed (e.g. AWWA publication # xxx) so the in-depth source can be found quickly.

Diagrams Please!
The text was ok except for the fact that the chapter problems did not include any illustrations.A lot of time the students had to guess at exactly what Sturm meant. Towards the end of the course it became routine for us to work the problem first and then check in the teacher's key to make sure that we set it up the way Sturm meant for us to. The class was made of seniors and graduate students.Read more

Great information!
Very thorough.Just the information I needed to determine what type of dock to build on my lakefront property.

Something Missing
Yes, this book provides a well-illustrated overview of approaches to dock building and choices of materials. But it doesn't go far enough if you have a significant tidal range or if the wind blows. What's missing is any introduction to engineering. How to make sure the ramp doesn't fall off your float when the tide goes out. How to figure the static forces on your dock caused by 4 knot currents. How to estimate the wave heights and dynamic forces in 80 knot winds. And how to design a dock that will survive this abuse. You might want to involve a professional engineer in these situations, but that can be true of pretty much anything to do with docks. A book with this title should at least introduce you to these subjects and provide references for the gory details. Like some others, the author believes books like this should be peppered with jokes. Personally I find this annoying, but I must admit his jokes are above average. So if you want a funny introduction to building docks in gentle places, this book is for you.

PE Review Manual
The review manual has been very helpful in preparing for the exam so far.It has many problems with complete worked out solutions that are very helpful.I would recommend it to anyone preparing for the PE exam.

Excellent Review book from practice problems
If your taking the tranportation Depth this is an excellent review book. It covers topics reflective of the NCEES description of the transportation Depth (except that part about Hydraulics/Hydrology and Culvert part and Geotechnical part). The only drawback with this book is that some of the problems are on the a bit easy compared to practice problems for CERM and NCEES sample examination, which may give you a false sense of security when preparing for the PE. Not helpful in study
I tried hard to work with this book. The only its doubtful advantage is the number of examplas. But what to do with them if there is no any explanations, no any reference formulas etc.?
Very good book
Very good book for fluid mechanics, still some of the part for compressible fluids is more confusing. I would highly recommend this for students writing professional exams.

Great book that goes way beyond the standard guide book fare.It inspired me to make the trip after reading it, to see first hand how the ancient Inca Empire created a complete fortified city in the sky, to trace the old Inca trails by the watchtower, the drawbrige and into the main gate with the view of city and the peak beyond. Other travel books have beautiful pictures and "where to eat and where to stay" for this citadel but very little information on how the city itself came into being and survived. Essential reference for a Civil Engineer working with Water
I used this book as a course text in one course at grad school, and an unofficial text in numerous other courses. It is fairly specialized, geared toward the the intersection of civil engineering and hydrology. It contains an impressive breadth of subjects, some of which may now seem a little technologically quaint (although section 25.5.4 on meteor-burst telemetry is still incredibly cool). The bread and butter is immensely useful as a reference. In particular, I was impressed with the statistical elements of chapter 18, regarding the frequency analysis of extreme events. excellent book on analytic methods in groundwater
This book is probably one of the best and most thorough books on analytic methods in groundwater (as opposed to finite-element and -difference methods).It is probably the most recent too, since most books on this subject date from the 60's or 70's.

This book is all metric - worthless
We use english units in my state.This book is all metric.They could have at least had both metric and english in the book.I sent mine back, as it is worthless to me.

Handbook of Hydraulics
This book was a classic, but why does it have to be metric?I guess converting it gave the academics something to do.Here is a news flash for the publisher: Civil Engineers praticing in the US don't use the metric system.Even our state DOT has given up on converting.I wish that the 6th edition was still available.Its just about useless now.

Bridging Panama Canal
This book entails a lot of historical photos and librarial facts.However, there are missing text/diaries and photos of many fine Black-Latino Panamanians who were mostly hired to assist in the building of the Panama Canal.I gave it a four star because of this reason.Perhaps the author did not wish to elaborate more on the natives who helped in the succession.Perhaps a followup to this book would complete the real historical element of The Building of the Panama Canal. Magnificient Recapturing of History
I lived in Panama for 17 years and have written 3 books on Panama. How how I wish I had this beautifully spectacular book years ago. What an inspiraton it would have been during those dreary hours of writer's block. Each of these magnificient pictures are indeed worth a thousand words -- and there are so many pictures in this book! The United States "helped" Panama separate from Colombia in 1903, the following year the great task, which had defeated the French, of building an interoceanic canal began. It would take a full and painful 10 years. The rare photographs in this book document those years. How wonderful that they have been saved and are now offered to another generation!
